OMG
During the summer of 2009, I was living in Conway. It felt good to be out and on
my own. It’s nothing like having some independence in your life! I had the experience of
coming home to a quiet three bedroom apartment, with the best roommate who was the
best cook. I could walk in the house and smell fry chicken, rice and cabbage. It was
something new everyday. I was also working and attending school at this time so I never
had the time to go to the doctor or realized things changing about myself.
Until one day I notice that everyone in my class was either sick or getting sick. I
promised myself that I have to overcome this swine flu outbreak. The next day I took the
initiative to ask my professor; who was a nurse, “how could I keep from getting sick”?
She replied, “Fish oil because it helps keep your immune system strong and clean”. Later
that afternoon I set out to the market and purchased those big nasty tablets. A week went
by and I noticed that I was getting some of the symptoms from the swine flu; such as
unusual tiredness, headache, and shortness of breath, muscle ache, vomiting and loss of
appetite. So I did what anybody I know would do and took some Nyquil, my aunt has me
thinking that, that’s the remedy to any sickness. I continued to take the medicine but my
symptoms got even worst by the day. On December 22 2009, I went to the doctor and
they ran different tests on me, trying to figure out the problem. The only test I could

recall is a pregnancy test because as she was telling me the different things she was
doing, I ask her, “a pregnancy test”? She said, “yes because its protocol Ms. Browne”.
After waiting an hour and half she finally came to me and said well Ms. Browne it’s not
the swine flu. I felt so relieved knowing I didn’t have to sit in the hospital. I said, “Thank
God it’s just a little cold right Mrs. Evans”, she replied, “Well not this time Talaysha it’s
a bit more, you’re pregnant”! “Congratulations”! As I sat frozen in my seat and stared
and told her to go do the test over. She says, ‘Talaysha, are you ok”? I said, “Are you
sure you got the right name on the correct results”? She said, “yes and while you’re here
we are going to do an ultrasound on you to see how far you are”. While catching up with
life and griping on to what was going on, I found out that I was three months
pregnant….OMG! She told me because I was so far she had to run more tests to make
sure my baby was healthy and doing well. Even though that was the most over whelming
day in my life, I learned to take health serious because we never know.
Even though I believe something’s with technology is overrated it is still helpful.
I learned many things in many ways. As I seat and realize that if it wasn’t for those
different tests I would have never known I was pregnant. Especially in my case I needed
to know as soon as possible. People always ask me how I didn’t know but to be honest I
didn’t feel different and I never really got a stomach. I went on with my daily routine; the
only thing that made me curious was because everyone else was sick. If I didn’t go to the
doctor I would have probably end on up on the show called “I didn’t know I was
pregnant”. As time went by most people thought I was just gaining a little weight. While
others just notice that I was carrying a baby everywhere I went. I really thank God that it
was nothing wrong with my little girl. So I’m here to tell everyone if you got a feeling,

doubt, or urge you should go to the doctor because at the end of the day it’s your life or in
my case a innocent child life in danger. We have the technology so use it even though we
might don’t want to know the results, its better to know then wonder what’s the problem.
