The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a not-for-profit educational and service
organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of
engineering.

6. Fall - High School Lab Tours (Oct. 19)
❖ We give tours of some UCLA Engineering labs to students from Da Vinci High
School
❖ We also have lunch with the students in one of the dining halls
❖ Objective: spark or heighten interest in engineering by showing the research
side of engineering (as well as some cool equipment)

7. Winter - Wow! That’s Engineering Day
❖ We host ~100 Girl Scouts ranging from 3rd through 10th
grades (majority are 3rd through 6th)
❖ Full day event involving presentations for students and
parents, hands on engineering activities for the Girl
Scouts, and a UCLA Engineering club fair
❖ Objective: spark interest in engineering through hands-
on activities

8. Spring - Overnight Stayover Program
(Bruin Day Weekend)
❖ Panel of female faculty and student leadership discussing women in engineering
at UCLA
❖ Students have dinner in the dining halls with UCLA students and faculty
❖ Students spend the night in the dorms
❖ Objective: show what life as a UCLA Engineering student is like; convince
acceptees to attend UCLA HSSEAS

❖ Students are paired with mentors from
various engineering companies
❖ Learn about careers related to your major
and how you can be successful in the
workplace

17. What does the Outreach Committee do?
From the SWE Mission Statement:
❖ To stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand
the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of
life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.
❖ To inform young women, their parents, counselors, and the general public of the
qualifications and achievements of women engineers and the opportunities open to them.
We strive to accomplish this through three main events over the academic year.

❖ Brand new committee to SWE-UCLA!
❖ Purpose: to hold events throughout the year to promote SWE’s message of
gender equality in the engineering field.
❖ Things we do:
➢ Plan at least 1 major event per quarter
➢ Hold smaller events throughout the year
➢ Run the Engineers for Professional Equality Conference (EPEC) in spring.

➢ C2C Membership: $50 covers all collegiate years and first year of
