Entitlement Society
Entitlement, the belief that one is deserving or entitled to certain privileges. What does this mean in our society? Our country has become an
entitlement society. Causing a negative effect not only to our generation, but to our economy as well. This culture of entitlement is teaching an entire
generation to be dependant on the government. Breeding a generation with little motivation and ambition. Our country's values which say we all have
the ability to earn prosperity through whatever means necessary within the law. It isn't right to take from the hard working class to give to those who
aren't in true need of government assistance. As there is two sides to every story, we cannot ignore those who are in need of government assistance

Example Of Entitlement
With inherent privileges, comes an overwhelming feeling of entitlement. Entitlement isn't just social security and other government programs, it's a
predetermined mindset that the world owes one a gifted life where everything is in one's favor. Oxford dictionary defines entitled to be believing
oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment. Entitled individuals genuinely believe that they are superior to others. Making the
request at someone else's expense is an example of entitlement. Thinking nothing of inconveniencing others, entitled individuals have difficulty
compromising, negotiating, following the rules, or taking one for the team. Entitled individuals are manipulative, controlling and rude. They tend to go

Selection Of The Service Learning Project
Entry One: Selection of the Service Learning Project
After some research and deliberation, I chose Habitat for Humanity (HFH, 2016) for my service project. There were several reasons that Habitat
for Humanity appealed to me. The first reason is that I consider HFH to be a worthy cause is that I appreciate that it's for a lower income family
that would not otherwise be able to afford a home. The facts that the beneficiaries are expected to help build their home or other HFH homes with
sweat equity, they'll pay a mortgage, combined with the way it's set up so they won't be able to just sell as a short term flip, gives me the impression
that it's not a freebie entitlement program, but a program that promotes responsibility with some life changing results.
I also consider that working on a construction project plays into my strengths. Even though I haven't been hired specifically as a construction worker
since my teen years when pouring concrete every summer, some of my strengths come from my previous education and work as an electro–mechanical
technician along with the all of the construction projects I've completed over the years on the farm and for home improvements which have included
electrical, and plumbing when I've remodeled and added additions and buildings.
Another thing I liked about HFH is that it is a Christian ministry. With so much of the world and people within our country judging Christians and their
values in a poor light, I feel that it's important to project

Entitlement Spending Problem
The other alternative often discussed is to decrease entitlement spending and other government program. Entitlement spending is money used to fund
programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. In addition, the largest portion of the federal government's budget is spent on defence spending.
The problem is that spending on these programs is growing at a greater rate than the Malaysia economy. This means that the income generated fromtax
deposits cannot keep pace with the spending on these programs.
Proposals being discussed to limit spending are placing caps on the amounts that can be spent on any government program. This would force programs
to make cuts since they cannot exceed the caps. There have also been talks about restricting the growth of every government program to the rate of
inflation. That way wages would have a better chance of keeping pace with spending. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, the deficit just continues to grow. There is no easy solution to the budgetary problems in the Malaysia. Hard choices will need to be made and it
will take some outside–the–box thinking to develop solutions. We think it will take a hybrid approach if we want to seriously eradicate the deficit. An
advocate for higher taxes but would not be opposed to a modest tax on consumption paired with spending cuts to lower the deficit. It would have to be
specifically stated that any money rose from any tax increase or spending cut would have to be used towards eliminating the deficit. Hopefully that
will help to lower our deficit and rose back our country image and

Participation Trophies : Helpful Or Harmful?
Participation Trophies: Helpful or Harmful?
A new trend across America has risen in sports. Event officials are doling out participation trophies in massive numbers. The question is, are these
participation trophies negatively changing the basic American values we treasure in these children? Yes, participation trophies are shaping a new
cultural norm of entitlement and it promotes a new attitude of doing nothing, yet still being rewarded for it. This trend must be put to a halt and
reversed. Participation trophies are not the answer to making kids feel better about themselves. All my life, I have participated in sports. I ran track
and cross country, and played volleyball, basketball, and softball. After all those years in multiple sports, I acquired endless amounts of participation
trophies, medals and ribbons. These awards were given to me in hopes that I would continue to engage myself in the sport or to feel like my
contributions to the team mattered. The adults might have even hoped I would fall in love with the sport. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I
ended up quitting all of those sports excluding softball going into high school. I was not even that bad of a player. I actually was on the A team for a
majority of the teams. Ironically enough, softball was the only sport I did not receive any participation awards throughout elementary and middle
school. This is no coincidence. Those participation awards I received in the other sports

Entitlement Programs Are Good For Us
The entitlement programs are good for us to have but they are out of control. The federal government overspends on these programs leaving no room
for other expenditures. States across the nation are trying to help with the control of the budget. Some have even began to shrink some of these
entitlement programs because the federal government has overspent them. Medicaid being one of the top three entitlement programs has been
significantly decreased in thirteen out of fifty states in America. These states have taken steps forward to try and decreased the extra cost on
entitlements that the federal government has been spending. States are calling out and stating that entitlement programs are too much for the country,
they have said this with the slashing of Medicaid. If the working class has to pay for the lazy man's medical bills is not fair to anyone who pays for
taxes. The biggest reason why the states have decided to cut some cost on Medicaid was because their budgets were strained and need to put it into
balance (Mannion, Chang 2011). If they have the ability to cut the spending on Medicaid why can't the federal government do that also and why can
they not do it to other entitlement programs because if the states can do it and it does not affect them badly then the United States should be able to do
it to other programs with a positive affect. Overspending on these entitlement programs are very rampant. These programs need to be seen as a danger.

Entitlement Programs
Entitlement programs have drastically changed our nation over the past 75 years. In this essay I will show how entitlement programs such as the New
Deal in 1933, the Great Society in 1965 and the Affordable Care Act in 2010 have negatively affected our country.
First, the New Deal, Roosevelt's cure for the Great Depression in 1933. His idea was to give jobs to the families that were struggling to make money.
Roosevelt outlined a set of measures designed to curb deflation and foreclosures and to put millions of people to work through government programs.
The New Deal was a great concept, but how Roosevelt pulled it together affected people for the worse in the long run. While the early measures went
some distance toward stabilizing prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obamacare was allegedly going to cost $938 billion over ten years, result in 23 million people getting insurance through its exchanges as of 2017,
reduce the typical family's premiums by $2,500 a year, and make sure that if you liked your health plan and doctor, you could keep your health plan
and doctor. Obamacare was something that we thought sounded like a good idea ended up promising the people something that couldn't be maintained.
Seven years later, Obamacare is projected to cost $1.938 trillion over ten years (exactly $1 trillion more), only 9 million (14 million less) people have
insurance through its exchanges as of 2017, the typical family's premiums have only risen, and millions of people who liked their plans lost them, as
Obamacare effectively banned them along with many of their doctors.
What was happening with entitlement programs is that the government was giving too many free opportunities to people below the poverty line who
needed to learn how to get jobs and pay for their needs themselves. One of the pitfalls of entitlement programs was the training those who are
struggling to rely on someone else to give them what they need, instead of working for it on their own. Lastly, entitlement programs have been
repeatedly failing to fulfil and maintain their

Entitlement In A Few Good Men
Professor of American Literature Sarah Churchwell once said, "People who are given whatever they want soon develop a sense of entitlement and
rapidly lose their sense of proportion." In the famous movie A Few Good Men, Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, who is masterfully played by Jack
Nicholson, exudes arrogance in his every action throughout the crime fiction thriller. Furthermore, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee uses his late father's past
occupation of United States' Attorney General to obtain his own sense of entitlement and invincibility. Two independent scenarios occur in the film that
support this theory of entitlement; three different decorated authors also contain evidence as to why this might be the case for Colonel Jessup and
Lieutenant Kaffee... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene refers to a situation early on in the film when Lieutenant Kaffee is late to a meeting with his fellow comrades. Unprepared and
disrespectful, he is still assigned a case to defend two marines who have killed another. No punishment for neither being late to the meeting nor being
unprepared and disrespectful to his equals. Zimbardo and Milgram alike would likely begin by both regressing to their previous points in proving that
submission to a person causes the entitlement feeling in that person's mind; both of which concluded with these results in their respective experiments
(Z&M 84,113). However, specialized writer and editor, Kori Ellis, would refute that this is the only reason that Kaffee feels as entitled and invincible
that he indeed feels. "Spoiled kids often develop into self–absorbed adults with a lack of self–control and a major sense of entitlement," she writes.
Furthermore, she illustrates that these spoiled children, as adults, carry this sense of entitlement throughout their lives causing them to be disliked and
frowned upon in the work force (Ellis). Quick, concurring comments would likely be made by School Age Children Expert Katherine Lee when she
discusses the effects on children as a result to a lack of discipline throughout her article, "Surprising Reasons Why We Need to Discipline Our
Children." Discipline is essential to a child's proper development and a lack of discipline is detrimental, she illustrates. This causes the child to struggle
respecting others, similar to how Kaffee feels throughout the duration of the film especially coming to focus in the meeting scene discussed (Lee).
Lieutenant Kaffee's father, as previously mentioned, was the attorney general of the United States: To put this in perspective, the only authority to this
position is the President of the United States. There was

Welfare Reform Research Paper
The Welfare Problem
The poor are everywhere it seems. They are on the street corner, in the local 7 Eleven, and in the plaza. Sometimes I get sick of them and even
angry with them when they pester me for money. I ask myself, "Is the best way to deal with poor, to give them money from my pocket?" It's obvious
that other people have given them money from their pockets at different times. If no one had ever given them money, then these people wouldn't be
standing here asking for money. The fact is, many poor people ask for money because they know they can get money that way. For most of the last 70
years our government has indirectly given the poor money from our pockets, through taxes and welfare. Not surprisingly, people have ... Show more

In 1965, about 14 percent of Americans were living below the poverty line. After 30 years and nearly 6 trillion dollars in spending the poverty rate was
actually up to 15.2 percent in 1996.
According to cnn.com, in 1994, Republicans were given control of both Houses of Congress. One of the first priorities on their agenda was to address
the growth of the welfare entitlement program. Early in their term President Clinton proposed idea for reforming welfare. He proposed setting a
two–year time limit for welfare recipients. He also wanted to spend another 9.3 billion in Federal money to create more Federal jobs welfare
recipients could apply for. The Republicans resisted the idea of expanding the Federal Government's role in welfare and in 1996 made a counter
proposal, which was eventually passed through Congress and vetoed twice by President Clinton. In the summer of 1996 Congress again passed the
Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, and in July President Clinton agreed to sign it into Law. This law is what we now
call Welfare Reform (Background: Time for a new Approach).
According to Health and Human Services own Website, The cornerstone of Welfare Reform was the giving of TANF Block Grants to individual states
to help their poor. The current law allows states to use this money in any manner "reasonably calculated to accomplish the purposes of TANF"

Entitlement To Me
Entitlement is having the right to something, especially when it comes to government, for instance every individual is entitled to have the opportunity
to choose who they view more considered to fit as the President of the United States. Entitlement likewise ties in with someone's morals; this is the
reason it is particularly essential for people to look into the things in which they are voting for. The way the spirit of entitlement influences me is by
thinking there is always a positive outcome but also a negative outcome. Self– reliance applies to me because of the fact that I may depend on learning
some things from other individuals the one thing in life that I need to learn most includes how to provide and work for myself. One way that
self–reliance applies to me, is by going out and searching for a job with a specific goal in mind in order to buy the things I need to have in life for my
family and I, rather than having to worry about if another person coming to support me to help me make it through, yet another month's worth of rent

Shameful I am ashamed of the human race because we are entitled, lazy, and overweight. Humanity now believes they deserve special treatments or
privileges without doing anything to deserve them. These feelings likely come from parents not expecting kids to get a job and buy them everything
they want. entitlement may also stem from their parents taking care of everything and not making the children move out or take responsibility for
their own actions. Technology also gives a huge sense of entitlement because people are always posting on social media making it a race to see who

Entitlement To FAPE Analysis
How has the entitlement to FAPE been defined through litigation and legislation and what has the effect been for students with disabilities?
The case of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), found that education was an important function. The courts viewed education as playing an important
role in the future of the United States and since states chose to provide it, education then is a right that must be available to all on equal terms (
(Murdick, Gartin, & Fowler, 2014). The question of equal terms has been an uphill battle for families that have children with disabilities. There were
many acts that addressed educational issues of children with disabilities. The elementary and Secondary Act of 1965 was created to improve education
for children that were disadvantaged and it expanded funding. 1974 Education of the Handicapped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As a result, there were many Reauthorizations and Amendments to Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975. These Amendments would
ensure the safety and increase parental participation in the education of children with disabilities. These acts help secure educational programs for those
children that demonstrated disruptive behaviors due to their disability. It also provided help to state and local government by relieving them of some of
the financial burden associated with educating students with special needs.
IDEA 2004 defines FAPE as services that are provided at public expense, that the education meet educational standards, is appropriate for the child
and conforms with the IEP (Murdick, 2014). In several cases judges have ruled on the bases of free and appropriate public education for all children.
In Timothy(v) Rochester N.H. School District (1989) the judged ruled in favor of Timothy, as he stressed IDEA empathized "all handicapped". In the

Changing Medicare And Social Security
Changing Medicare and Social Security to means–tested benefits Policy Analysis Notably, the elderly populace is growing rapidly, and will reach 3.4
million or 12.8% of the population. Eventually, in the next thirty years older adults will comprise of 20% of the total population due to the aging of 76
million baby boomers (Olson, 2001). Seeing that, entitlement programs and means–tested benefits, are presented, in order to bolster this increment of
older adults. Accordingly, around 96% of the American workforce is secured by Social Security and it is likewise estimated that 58 million
American will receive a total of $816 billion in Social Security benefits (Moody and Sasser, 2015). In fact, today 56 million or 17% of the population is
enlisted in Medicare (Leonard, 2015). Therefore, this has presented an open deliberation about the eventual fate of Medicare and Social Security and
regardless of whether changing Medicare and Social Security to means–tested benefits, instead of entitlement programs can resolve the policy issues.
Discussion
At present, entitlement programs, which is, "a federal program that guarantees a certain level of benefits to persons or other entities who meet
requirements set by law" (Entitlement Program, 2015) incorporates programs, for example, Medicare and Social Security. However, because of
expanding insecurity of these programs the likelihood of changing Medicare and Social Security to means–tested benefits is being considered for a

Is Privileges A Special Entitlement?
It is safe to assume that many if not most individuals have heard the terms rights and privileges. What might not be safe to assume is that all of
those individuals know the actual difference between the two terms. To clarify, AJ Oatsvall explains the difference as, "A privilege is a special
entitlement granted to a restricted group or person, either by birth or on a conditional basis, and can be revoked. By contrast, a right is irrevocable
and inherently held by all human beings." (Oatsvall, 2015, para. 1). This essentially suggests that privileges can be given to individuals and also taken
away, yet a right is something that all individuals are entitled to. To illustrate, all individuals have the right to enter a retail establishment,... Show more

Despite some of the greatest efforts, some patients lost their lives. An evaluation carried out by government personnel and the office of the medical

specifically a physician Anna Pou who was accused of homicide for four of the patients (Van Camp, 2014). There were arguments from both sides,
one that it was pure murder not to be mistaken as euthanasia and the other side from Pou that she was not the person being portrayed or a person who
displayed such characteristics and did not share in the belief of euthanasia (Van Camp, 2014). A grand jury decided not to formally charge Pou with

Martin Luther Entitlement
Famous religious philosopher Martin Luther once said "...every Christian is by faith so exalted above all things that, in spiritual power, he is
completely lord of all things, so that nothing whatever can do him any hurt." (Luther, Freedom of a Christian), and that, "all things are subject to him,
and are compelled to be sub servant to his salvation" (Luther, Freedom of a
Christian). Though Luther uses the word, "sub servant", to refer to the freedoms and liberties
God has handed down to the Christian people, it has made me question about the deserved rights many people have thought of what is, or should be,
deserved to them. Take this relatable scenario: You are sitting next to your best friend in class; the room is full of students and the teacher is passing
out last week's test. After looking at both of your scores, you see that your friend did not do very well. Although you might be the one to brush this off
as a learning opportunity, your friend might lay his/her head on their desk and start mumbling under their breath how this is not their fault and that he
/she deserved that "A". Events like this alone have drawn me to this topic of entitlement. For in Luther's time, he believed that you and your faith alone
should be enough dictate the entitlement of salvation, while the past version of the
Christian Church believed that it was required for you to participate in the church services to reach that goal. Clearly there should be a ,"right path", to
tread on, as Luther's

Nozick's Notion Of Historical Entitlement
Nozick asserts that the state should not be able to prohibit capitalist transfers between consenting adults. In this paper I will argue that this claim is
true in all circumstances regardless of the resulting inequality. I will begin my analysis by explaining why it is that Nozick makes this claim. This
explanation will focus on articulating his detailed description of just acquisition and transfer of holdings. I will then move on to describe how Nozick's
conclusion regarding just transfers results in him forbidding state intervention restricting capitalist acts. The focus here will be on detailing how
Nozick's notion of historical entitlement combats the competing theories of justice in holdings, namely theories composed of end–state principles and
patterned principles. Finally, I will address common concerns and anticipate rebuttals to Nozick's claim and show how they are unsuccessful in their
attempts. Nozick believes that a state should not prohibit consensual transfers between fit individuals due in part to the sacrifice of liberty that it
entails. Nozick puts forth a theory of entitlement that does not include such a sacrifice. It consists of two main components: the principle of justice in
acquisition and the principle of justice in transfer. The two principles together bring about a state of justice in holdings. Justice in transfer is concerned
with answering the question of how a person may rightfully transfer a holding to another individual as well as

The Nature Of Entitlement
While a person can be poisoned by a great deal of things, drugs, tobacco, but the real poisons are those that poison the soul. It is these that can turn a
kind–hearted person vile, one trait that can cause this is the poison of entitlement. It can cause those afflicted to become narcissistic, become violent or
abusive, and to be completely unaware of their own entitlement. The nature of entitlement is making one believe they deserve anything and everything
it is that they might desire. This can cause problems in a variety of situations, but none more so than when the thing they desire is a person. This
happens all too often in relationships and even out of them. It manifests in relationships as one member being overly controlling and possessive.

emotions. Additionally, Dantrell will be allowed to include a variable of his choice to explore that variable's relationship with

The Myth Of Entitlement: Millennials,
The ethnography The Myth of the Age of Entitlement: Millennials, Austerity, and Hope by James Cairns, discusses the myth of entitlement about
millennials (or Generation Y) in a political, economic and social perspective in the North American context. Cairns debunks the idea that "young
people expect everything to be handed to them without having to work for it" (Cairns, 2017, p.133). There is a misconception that millennials do not
work hard, are addicted to praise, have a lack of respect for authority and are more entitled than any previous generation. When in reality they have to
work harder due to the loss of entitlements compared to previous working generations. For instance, when Sedef got her dream internship at CMI she

This leads to the second point of how the ethnography fails to give an in–depth clear definition who millennials are especially when the point of the
ethnography is to debunk the negative persona placed on current western millennials. This causes Cairns arguments to lose its impact, due to the broad
definition of millennials. The ethnography is convincing to understand that the myth of entitlement placed on millennials is wrong with the use of the
many examples to understand the political, economic and social climate in North America. Essentially, the normalization of millennials being lazy and
not working hard is created by the institution to allow oppressive entitlement to be the normal aspect to create social order. This causes the loss of
basic rights due to the internalization of the norm, but the refusal to accept the status quo and to expect less has given the power to allow the
stereotypes of millennials to remain. Ultimately, millennials are a complex demographic with key differences influenced by life

Entitlement. It seems that every American youth believes that they are entitled to call themselves an American. They believe just since they were
born in America they hold the right to call themselves Americans. I believe however, that the right of citizenship must be earned. I believe such is
true after watching, the movie "Starship Troopers." In this sci fi movie people are given the choice to become a citizen by serving two years in the
Federal Service. This does not imply military occupations, but instead offers a wide variety of different jobs. Civilians (non–citizens) must serve a two
year minimum service to their country to receive the right to vote, but once they have finished the service they receive pretty nice benefits. In modern
America I believe this can be accomplished with a minimum of 1 year of national mandatory service.
When people hear "mandatory service" they instantly believe that they will have to serve in the military, but they are wrong. Just this year alone, 5.78
million jobs will go unfilled in America, and almost all of those are outside of the military. Though in the Movie "Starship troopers" the military is the
most glorified (and so it should be in modern America), they do not fail to mention how there are many other government jobs that people could fill,
and all the while they are making their nation a stronger place. When kids turn 18 they should finally earn their citizenship by making their country
better. It would be good for 18 year

Sense Of Entitlement In American Culture
American's Sense of Entitlement In today's society, people have the "what can you do for me" attitude. The nation has lost their sense of self worth and
value of good moral ethics. American culture has many people feeling that the world owes them something, even when they did nothing to deserve it.
Today's culture has left Americans feeling a sense of entitlement from the people around them, such as parents, teachers, and even the government to
grant them commodity regardless of their efforts. This generation of youth has been brought up thinking their parents should give them everything they
want no matter their behavior or achievements. They expect their parents need to give them a cell phone, for example, only because everyone else in
class has one. They don't take into account nor care that their behavior has been poor, that they are failing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some students go into college expecting the professor to give them all the answers. Some are hoping to get answers for the task at hand but others
are looking for something much more. The students looking to skimp by with as little work as possible, hoping to get all the data without doing
the research are the ones with a sense of entitlement. They believe the college and the professors owe them something simply because they
enrolled and showed up for class. But there are those who strive to excel in life and do not mind to put in the hard work and hours it takes to
accomplish their goals. Colleges and Universities are full of both types of personalities. Professors are challenged by students who may be too lazy
to recognize their full potential. The professor may see what a great asset to society a particular pupil may be if they could only lose the chip off their
shoulder and decide to dedicate themselves to the work it takes to truly

Narcissism Research Papers
Narcissism is the complete lack of empathy for others as well as over glorified self–esteem. This belief leads to a decrease in the amount of
relationships because narcissists hold themselves on such a high pedestal. The history of this cautionary trait has come from the self–esteem movement
which started to help the depression of people about their bodies, lives, and jobs. Creating this movement started out well; however, the extremists
took it to a whole new level. So what once was a positive now became a negative because people only care for themselves. The characteristic of
narcissism is found in Millennials more today than ever before. Through relationships, jobs, and views on entitlements, narcissism can be seen as

"...we are now a society in which more than 4 in 10 children are born out of wedlock, and in which a teenager has less chance of being raised by
both biological parents..." (Taylor 54). Narcissists are incapable of long term relationships, and the fact that families are now also having holes, shows
that the narcissism level is increasing. A lot of times, children are being raised by their grandparents or one biological parent and a step–parent. This is
due to the narcissist's need of a trophy significant other who helps them to feel good. When a significant other starts to slack off with the praise or
doesn't fit what the other person wants, they leave. "Much of narcissists' behavior in relationships is 'game playing'," (Twenge 215). This behavior is
the use of a person to satisfy another's wants or needs until they don't work for the person anymore.
Millennial America is changing from narcissism and allowing this characteristic to run the decisions people make. In The Next America, the author
states the decision making world perfectly, " How Americans respond – in their public choices as well as their private behaviors – will go a long way
toward determining whether the generations spend the coming decades at war or in harmony" (Taylor 55). The quote should spark some interest into
what your decisions will affect and how the world will be different depending on what you choose. So choose

Entitlement In Frankenstein
A famous writer, C.S. Lewis, once said, "Relying on God has to start all over everyday, as if nothing has yet been done". People struggle daily with
their faith lives, some reject faith altogether, some just question everything, and others just go through the motions. Men and women face obstacles and
experiences daily. Individuals have the option of either learning from their obstacles and experiences through their faith life or ignore God and blame
almost everything on bad luck. People can learn from other individual's spiritual messages and learn from their mistakes. Mary Shelly in Frankenstein
wants to help others in their faith journey through the lens of Victor. In Frankenstein, Mary Shelly, uses the negative example of Victor Frankenstein's...

The Is The Entitlement Beneficiary?
Jared and Dad, please check out the following articles, information and analysis I am sharing with you. I feel compelled because I am concerned and I
care. I think it will take about 30 minutes of your time.
Western debt–based, consumption–driven societies have been living beyond their means for a very, very long time. For decades we have been
consuming, as a group of people, more than we have been producing and we 've been financing it by mortgaging our children 's future through national
debt and deficit spending. The question becomes, "How long can we continue to mortgage our children 's future and how many creditors are still
willing to buy that mortgage?" I think the reckoning is approaching when we have to answer those questions. So what is that reckoning going to
look like? Well, things like this require a painful cure and it needs to be decided who will end up on the short end of the stick. Will it be the
taxpayer? Will it be the entitlements beneficiary? Will it be the bond holder? The saver? My answer is yes. All of them and everyone.
The lender in me looks at the balance sheets of the major sovereigns in the world and the picture I see is not pretty at all. As a lender, I would not be
willing to lend to these governments. I assume that if I am acting rationally then most of the counter–parties and creditors out there eventually will act
rationally too. Which is not a comforting thought at all. Nearly 1 in 6 Americans receive food stamps.

The Argument Of Entitlement And Desert
In this paper I will defend John Arthur's argument of entitlement and desert against Peter Singer's theory of our duty to the global poor. We as
privileged citizens, living in a prosperous country, do have some responsibility to help the tens of thousands of children under the age of 5 who die
everyday from starvation and treatable disease. It seems natural that we as citizens of a first world country have a duty to help the global poor through
charity. However that "duty" is vague and is under heavy moral debate. We as privileged citizens, living in a prosperous country, do have some
responsibility to help the global poor. However, this rightful duty should not necessarily live up to the extreme and overwhelming expectations of Peter
Singer. John Arthur's argument ofentitlement and desert is more realistic, logical, and more applicable to the world we live in today.
Peter Singer's central idea focuses around how grim death and suffering from lack of food, shelter and medical care really is. He further argues that if
we can prevent something this unfortunate from happening, without sacrificing anything morally significant, we ought to do it. In other words, as
privileged citizens, we ought to prevent all of the death and suffering that we can from lack of food, shelter and medical care from happening by
giving our money and resources to charity (Chao, 2016, in–class discussion). In the terms of this argument, death and suffering from poverty are
preventable with the

The False Sense Of Entitlement
My people regard themselves to being committed and having faith in a particular religion, but what does this mean exactly? To some people, it's this
expectation to take this leap into the unbelievable and if they didn't they would be criticized or perhaps in less developed regions executed.
Apprehension towards God is simply not even a question in some of these regions since their lives depend on it. With reasons like this, it seems to me
that religion in itself is a sham to create this false sense of entitlement to the world as well as an unfair hope of an afterlife, so to me I can't believe in
faith based religion. In theory much like love, faith is this grand idea that someone could love something for no apparent reason other than to just to be
infatuated with it. This couldn't be farther from the truth though as no one in this world does something for nothing. There is always a motive to any
one person's actions whether for greed or self–comfort. It's also possible that I have the whole idea wrong, since I've never been able to remove this
discomfort that there is nothing more to life than to just be here.
Johannes de silentio is a character made up by Kierkegaard that starts and finishes as a peculiar person who questions how one may take the leap of
faith to a religious belief. Our introduction to Johannes dialogue provides his idea of genuine versus cheap faith. His idea of genuine faith would be
someone who can continually look up to a religion against all

Entitlement To Vote
Then again, regardless of vote based system's focal points there are a few detriments as well. In a law based country, the subjects hold the privilege to

situation in their nation or the issues their country faces. This may bring about individuals settling on the wrong decisions amid race. Unfortunately, in
a few nations, individuals don't practice their entitlement to vote. Many are hesitant to vote or less mindful about the effect their votes can have. They

Entitlement In Workplace
Shifting attitudes in the workplace are expected to affect the workplace in four key areas, including a shift in organizational priorities, workplace
conflict, trust, and turnover rates. Firstly, Millennials are showing that they are attracted to jobs in organizations which demonstrate genuine concerns
for social issues. This aligns with their increased awareness of ethical dilemmas, and may indicate a struggle to hire and retain to junior staff in socially
irresponsible organizations. In turn, there may be a shift in job demand toward industries focused on sustainability and humanitarian efforts.
Additionally, in accordance with their attitudes towards their sense of entitlement in the workplace as it relates to up keeping a certain lifestyle,
Millennials have unrealistic career expectations and will not accept a subpar position to start their career (Ng et al.,... Show more content on

Unsatisfied employees may be more likely to work less efficiently, and demonstrate less loyalty to their organizations. Aspects of entitlement from
Millennials may also engage intergenerational disagreement if members of management are from older generations, resulting in workplace conflict.
Senior workers may begin rebelling against Millennials as they argue it is the younger generation's turn to make the same sacrifices required by the
older generations, and accept responsibility for performance outcomes (Myers & Sadaghiani, 2010) rather than abandoning their position when the
work gets tough. Millennials do not wish to pay the same dues as their parents did with longer office hours, fewer promotions, and no work–life
balance; as parental generations feel offended by the demands of Millennials, Millennials feel mistreated if they are required to accept any of the

Entitlement Programs And The Entitlement Program
America was founded on several principles to include, that all men are created equal. However, throughout history, it has been made clear through the
various social classes that this is not the case within the realm of monetary value. It is for reasons such as this that the entitlement programs were born.
Entitlement programs were created to provide security and assistance to those in need. They would allocate basic necessities for eligible persons and
families to live comfortably until they are no longer necessary. Though a great deal of people across the country have benefited from these programs, it
has come at a high cost to the government and the taxpayers. Because of the apparent success and high expenses, there are a number of arguments both
for and against entitlement programs. This includes the extent of their benefits and costs, the amount spent to fuel them, and even their entire
existence. On one hand, they have proven value by significantly reducing the national poverty level and other similar successes; on the other, they cost
the country millions and have been adding to the ever increasing national deficit. Another common school of thought, is that an increasing number of
individuals or families have become completely dependent on them as they create an avenue to stability at no cost to them. The overwhelming and
unnecessary volume of goods and services–including medicaid, unemployment compensation, and food stamps– that entitlement programs supply to

Entitlement Mentality
Entitlement Mentality
Entitlement is about security, bureaucracy, top down, status quo, rules, single skill, and looking good versus a continuous improvement climate where
everyone is constantly seeking ways to eliminate, or improve, on their outputs. For some leaders, this is frustrating because people are not held
accountable for meeting criteria of excellence. They are entitled. Therefore, they don't have to earn their place. Good performance, poor performance,
or no performance at all, are treated the same. Is this true of only rank and file workers? Evidence to the contrary is suggested when executives receive
bonuses regardless of the company's performance. I agree that employees often feel entitled to something.

I think it connects to the sense of being or thinking they are privileged. Privilege is the "special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available
only to one person or group of people". Privilege is constructed and normalized by the established frameworks of society – narratives that have been
developed based on the power struggles of history. This means that people are classified by those who encounter them, and since these viewers are
so influenced by the constructed norm, the classification may be an unconscious act. In other words, even once you are aware of privilege, it is
extremely difficult to eliminate it. Of course, many people are not aware of why they treat certain people certain ways, or may choose to ignore the
realities of privilege. Therefore we must differentiate between the privileges that we should work to universalize, and those which we must eliminate
from the actions of all in order to dismantle

Nozick Entitlement Theory
In Anarchy, State, and Utopia, Nozick argues that distributive justice in the form of redistributive taxation embodies an unjustifiably extensive state.
Nozick includes arguments concerning the fundamental concept of patterned distribution on which redistributive taxation is built on. He also
discusses his entitlement theory, which distinguishes between end–result and historical justice. In this paper, I will reconstruct Nozick's argument that
redistributive taxation cannot be reconciled with the minimal state and the principle of self–ownership. I will argue that Nozick's entitlement theory,
which rests on the three principles of justice in acquisitions, transfers, and rectification of injustices is flawed due to an inherent assumption that ...

Consequently, those individuals or actors are responsible for reparations under the rectifications of injustices principle, not the entirety of a class in
society, which is often the target of redistributive taxation. One counter response again uses Nozick's argument that a historical distribution must be
viewed. If an individual follows the series of unjust acquisitions, it would eventually lead him or her to the Puritans staking a plot in Massachusetts. By
this argument, it can be determined that at the time when the Puritans settled in Massachusetts, they were the only actors that illegitimately acquired
property, violating the entitlement theory. As a result of this illegitimate transaction of property under, a precedent was established to other settlers that
the land was inherently theirs. This precedent has enabled generations beyond the first settlers to enjoy privilege at the expense of minorities. Even if
the progeny today followed Nozick's entitlement theory, they inherently received an advantage as a ripple effect from their ancestor's injustices.
Reparations would only remove the first wave of injustices and would fail to remove the ripples that cascaded through time from the first injustice since
it becomes difficult to effectively gauge whether or not an injustice as occur from an injustice that occurred centuries ago. Even with this counter
argument, the original point still holds. Although the pilgrims were the only actors in society, they are responsible for the original illegitimate
acquisition of land, but also establishing the precedent for further settlers, requiring the rectification of injustices that were committed at the first
European settlement. Present day injustices have

Social Justice and Entitlements Interfer with Natural...
As part of his "Entitlement Theory of Justice", Robert Nozick argues that patterned principles of distributive justice are ultimately unjust as they
interfere with individuals' natural rights. A principle of distributive justice is "patterned" if it "specifies that a distribution is to vary along with some
natural dimension, weighted sum of natural dimensions, or lexicographic ordering of natural dimensions," he explains. So, a principle that distributed
goods in society to individuals according to need, usefulness to society, intelligence, or some combination thereof is pattered according to Nozick's
definition. In Nozick's libertarian view, "the minimal state is the most extensive state that can be [morally] justified" without... Show more content on

For those reasons, Nozick's entitlement theory is historical, meaning that what distribution of holdings is just depends on what actually happened in
the past. It's also not patterned given that holdings don't uniformly vary with any natural dimension in his scheme; all that's important are the individual
aims of the participants in the acquisition and transfer of holdings and that those acquisitions and transfers meet conditions 1–4 of his theory.
The main problem with patterned principles of distributive justice such as "distribute from each's need according to each's need", as Nozick sees it, are
that they don't take those relevant moral considerations into account. He notes: "We think it is relevant to ask whether someone did something so that
he deserved to be punished, deserved to have a lower share." Rather, that principle merely considers the resulting structure of society after distribution
to determine whether such distribution is just or not, effectively ignoring who owns the holdings being distributed in the first place and their intentions
for their holdings. For Nozick, the situation is not one where some good is produced and there's an open question as to who owns it; typically,
products are initially owned by their producers. In contrast, the principle to "distribute from each's need

Entitlement Challenges
Society and how it has shaped me into the person I am today? I can recall growing up as a kid, we didn't have the fancy things like kids do today.
We were able to get by with what we had. My mother worked hard to give us the very best possible. Numerous parents today don't let their children
try, fail, be resilient, problem solve, or even have achievements of their own. All parents wantthe best intentions for their children, but if we keep
hovering over them, overprotecting and enable them they will not have the true sense of self, know who they are, or realized what is truly important
in life. They will not be able to have healthy relationships or stand on their own in the world.
I realized when my kids were growing up that I was somewhat the problem in this whole entitlement challenge, and let me say, it definitely was a
wakeup call. There are solutions, and they begin at home. I had to make a change within their environment and be able to repair the entitlement attitude
in my kids, before it was too late. I decided to make them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

world that does not exist. There is less communication than ever before. What happened to the sit down dinners and face to face conversations? No

The Themes Of Entitlement In Lucky Jim By Kingsley Amis

Entitlement for the Ages
Stigmas, judgments, and misconceptions surround the newest generation of today's society, cleverly named the "millennials," like a virus. This
particular generation is often subject to criticism and even mockery, both justified and not justified. Similarly, the generation that is focused on in the
events of the novel "Lucky Jim" by Kingsley Amis has been given the title of "entitled." This conception is shown through various characters and their
respective developments, such as Jim, Dixon, and Bertrand. As Amis develops these characters, we begin to see why their reputation is both justified
and not justified, and Amis leaves most of that interpretation open to the reader. Rather than forcing character traits by explicitly telling the audience
how each character thinks, he uses point of view to open up major character decisions to the reader.
In order to look at the general feelings and actions of characters through the lens of entitlement, it is important to define such a vague and often
overused term. A TIME Magazine article, titled "The Me–Me–Me Generation," focuses on why millennials are the most narcissistic, self–centered
generation in the history of western civilization. This attitude spreads not only among the upper and middle classes but reaches as far as those living in
poverty, who are selfish but for entirely different reasons than their counterparts. According to the study, this movement of thinking inwards began with
trying to artificially inflate the self–esteem of young adults in order to prevent them from thinking terribly about the world around them. That
"self–esteem" movement began in the 70s, a decade of historical significance highlighted by the Cold War. The article further states that not all of this
narcissism is not the fault of millennials, but because of the steady diet of entitlement, they have been fed. The author mentions that kids grow up
watching reality shows, which are "basically documentaries about narcissists." History classes frequently discuss how great the younger generation is
now compared to the past, where everyone was a farmer of some kind. All of this evidence and

Entitlement Society

  • 1. Entitlement Society Entitlement, the belief that one is deserving or entitled to certain privileges. What does this mean in our society? Our country has become an entitlement society. Causing a negative effect not only to our generation, but to our economy as well. This culture of entitlement is teaching an entire generation to be dependant on the government. Breeding a generation with little motivation and ambition. Our country's values which say we all have the ability to earn prosperity through whatever means necessary within the law. It isn't right to take from the hard working class to give to those who aren't in true need of government assistance. As there is two sides to every story, we cannot ignore those who are in need of government assistance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Example Of Entitlement With inherent privileges, comes an overwhelming feeling of entitlement. Entitlement isn't just social security and other government programs, it's a predetermined mindset that the world owes one a gifted life where everything is in one's favor. Oxford dictionary defines entitled to be believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment. Entitled individuals genuinely believe that they are superior to others. Making the request at someone else's expense is an example of entitlement. Thinking nothing of inconveniencing others, entitled individuals have difficulty compromising, negotiating, following the rules, or taking one for the team. Entitled individuals are manipulative, controlling and rude. They tend to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Selection Of The Service Learning Project Entry One: Selection of the Service Learning Project After some research and deliberation, I chose Habitat for Humanity (HFH, 2016) for my service project. There were several reasons that Habitat for Humanity appealed to me. The first reason is that I consider HFH to be a worthy cause is that I appreciate that it's for a lower income family that would not otherwise be able to afford a home. The facts that the beneficiaries are expected to help build their home or other HFH homes with sweat equity, they'll pay a mortgage, combined with the way it's set up so they won't be able to just sell as a short term flip, gives me the impression that it's not a freebie entitlement program, but a program that promotes responsibility with some life changing results. I also consider that working on a construction project plays into my strengths. Even though I haven't been hired specifically as a construction worker since my teen years when pouring concrete every summer, some of my strengths come from my previous education and work as an electro–mechanical technician along with the all of the construction projects I've completed over the years on the farm and for home improvements which have included electrical, and plumbing when I've remodeled and added additions and buildings. Another thing I liked about HFH is that it is a Christian ministry. With so much of the world and people within our country judging Christians and their values in a poor light, I feel that it's important to project ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Entitlement Spending Problem The other alternative often discussed is to decrease entitlement spending and other government program. Entitlement spending is money used to fund programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. In addition, the largest portion of the federal government's budget is spent on defence spending. The problem is that spending on these programs is growing at a greater rate than the Malaysia economy. This means that the income generated fromtax deposits cannot keep pace with the spending on these programs. Proposals being discussed to limit spending are placing caps on the amounts that can be spent on any government program. This would force programs to make cuts since they cannot exceed the caps. There have also been talks about restricting the growth of every government program to the rate of inflation. That way wages would have a better chance of keeping pace with spending. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, the deficit just continues to grow. There is no easy solution to the budgetary problems in the Malaysia. Hard choices will need to be made and it will take some outside–the–box thinking to develop solutions. We think it will take a hybrid approach if we want to seriously eradicate the deficit. An advocate for higher taxes but would not be opposed to a modest tax on consumption paired with spending cuts to lower the deficit. It would have to be specifically stated that any money rose from any tax increase or spending cut would have to be used towards eliminating the deficit. Hopefully that will help to lower our deficit and rose back our country image and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Participation Trophies : Helpful Or Harmful? Participation Trophies: Helpful or Harmful? A new trend across America has risen in sports. Event officials are doling out participation trophies in massive numbers. The question is, are these participation trophies negatively changing the basic American values we treasure in these children? Yes, participation trophies are shaping a new cultural norm of entitlement and it promotes a new attitude of doing nothing, yet still being rewarded for it. This trend must be put to a halt and reversed. Participation trophies are not the answer to making kids feel better about themselves. All my life, I have participated in sports. I ran track and cross country, and played volleyball, basketball, and softball. After all those years in multiple sports, I acquired endless amounts of participation trophies, medals and ribbons. These awards were given to me in hopes that I would continue to engage myself in the sport or to feel like my contributions to the team mattered. The adults might have even hoped I would fall in love with the sport. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I ended up quitting all of those sports excluding softball going into high school. I was not even that bad of a player. I actually was on the A team for a majority of the teams. Ironically enough, softball was the only sport I did not receive any participation awards throughout elementary and middle school. This is no coincidence. Those participation awards I received in the other sports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Entitlement Programs Are Good For Us The entitlement programs are good for us to have but they are out of control. The federal government overspends on these programs leaving no room for other expenditures. States across the nation are trying to help with the control of the budget. Some have even began to shrink some of these entitlement programs because the federal government has overspent them. Medicaid being one of the top three entitlement programs has been significantly decreased in thirteen out of fifty states in America. These states have taken steps forward to try and decreased the extra cost on entitlements that the federal government has been spending. States are calling out and stating that entitlement programs are too much for the country, they have said this with the slashing of Medicaid. If the working class has to pay for the lazy man's medical bills is not fair to anyone who pays for taxes. The biggest reason why the states have decided to cut some cost on Medicaid was because their budgets were strained and need to put it into balance (Mannion, Chang 2011). If they have the ability to cut the spending on Medicaid why can't the federal government do that also and why can they not do it to other entitlement programs because if the states can do it and it does not affect them badly then the United States should be able to do it to other programs with a positive affect. Overspending on these entitlement programs are very rampant. These programs need to be seen as a danger. Just with the past few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Entitlement Programs Entitlement programs have drastically changed our nation over the past 75 years. In this essay I will show how entitlement programs such as the New Deal in 1933, the Great Society in 1965 and the Affordable Care Act in 2010 have negatively affected our country. While the early measures went some distance toward stabilizing prices ... Obamacare was allegedly going to cost $938 billion over ten years, result in 23 million people getting insurance through its exchanges as of 2017, reduce the typical family's premiums by $2,500 a year, and make sure that if you liked your health plan and doctor, you could keep your health plan and doctor. Obamacare was something that we thought sounded like a good idea ended up promising the people something that couldn't be maintained. Seven years later, Obamacare is projected to cost $1.938 trillion over ten years (exactly $1 trillion more), only 9 million (14 million less) people have insurance through its exchanges as of 2017, the typical family's premiums have only risen, and millions of people who liked their plans lost them, as Obamacare effectively banned them along with many of their doctors. What was happening with entitlement programs is that the government was giving too many free opportunities to people below the poverty line who needed to learn how to get jobs and pay for their needs themselves. One of the pitfalls of entitlement programs was the training those who are struggling to rely on someone else to give them what they need, instead of working for it on their own. Lastly, entitlement programs have been repeatedly failing to fulfil and maintain their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Entitlement In A Few Good Men Professor of American Literature Sarah Churchwell once said, "People who are given whatever they want soon develop a sense of entitlement and rapidly lose their sense of proportion." In the famous movie A Few Good Men, Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, who is masterfully played by Jack Nicholson, exudes arrogance in his every action throughout the crime fiction thriller. Furthermore, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee uses his late father's past occupation of United States' Attorney General to obtain his own sense of entitlement and invincibility. Two independent scenarios occur in the film that support this theory of entitlement; three different decorated authors also contain evidence as to why this might be the case for Colonel Jessup and Lieutenant Kaffee... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scene refers to a situation early on in the film when Lieutenant Kaffee is late to a meeting with his fellow comrades. Unprepared and disrespectful, he is still assigned a case to defend two marines who have killed another. No punishment for neither being late to the meeting nor being unprepared and disrespectful to his equals. Zimbardo and Milgram alike would likely begin by both regressing to their previous points in proving that submission to a person causes the entitlement feeling in that person's mind; both of which concluded with these results in their respective experiments (Z&M 84,113). However, specialized writer and editor, Kori Ellis, would refute that this is the only reason that Kaffee feels as entitled and invincible that he indeed feels. "Spoiled kids often develop into self–absorbed adults with a lack of self–control and a major sense of entitlement," she writes. Furthermore, she illustrates that these spoiled children, as adults, carry this sense of entitlement throughout their lives causing them to be disliked and frowned upon in the work force (Ellis). Quick, concurring comments would likely be made by School Age Children Expert Katherine Lee when she discusses the effects on children as a result to a lack of discipline throughout her article, "Surprising Reasons Why We Need to Discipline Our Children." Discipline is essential to a child's proper development and a lack of discipline is detrimental, she illustrates. This causes the child to struggle respecting others, similar to how Kaffee feels throughout the duration of the film especially coming to focus in the meeting scene discussed (Lee). Lieutenant Kaffee's father, as previously mentioned, was the attorney general of the United States: To put this in perspective, the only authority to this position is the President of the United States. • 9. Welfare Reform Research Paper The Welfare Problem The poor are everywhere it seems. They are on the street corner, in the local 7 Eleven, and in the plaza. Sometimes I get sick of them and even angry with them when they pester me for money. I ask myself, "Is the best way to deal with poor, to give them money from my pocket?" It's obvious that other people have given them money from their pockets at different times. If no one had ever given them money, then these people wouldn't be standing here asking for money. The fact is, many poor people ask for money because they know they can get money that way. For most of the last 70 years our government has indirectly given the poor money from our pockets, through taxes and welfare. Not surprisingly, people have ... After 30 years and nearly 6 trillion dollars in spending the poverty rate was actually up to 15.2 percent in 1996. According to cnn.com, in 1994, Republicans were given control of both Houses of Congress. One of the first priorities on their agenda was to address the growth of the welfare entitlement program. Early in their term President Clinton proposed idea for reforming welfare. He proposed setting a two–year time limit for welfare recipients. He also wanted to spend another 9.3 billion in Federal money to create more Federal jobs welfare recipients could apply for. The Republicans resisted the idea of expanding the Federal Government's role in welfare and in 1996 made a counter proposal, which was eventually passed through Congress and vetoed twice by President Clinton. In the summer of 1996 Congress again passed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, and in July President Clinton agreed to sign it into Law. This law is what we now call Welfare Reform (Background: Time for a new Approach). • 10. Entitlement To Me Entitlement is having the right to something, especially when it comes to government, for instance every individual is entitled to have the opportunity to choose who they view more considered to fit as the President of the United States. Entitlement likewise ties in with someone's morals; this is the reason it is particularly essential for people to look into the things in which they are voting for. The way the spirit of entitlement influences me is by thinking there is always a positive outcome but also a negative outcome. Self– reliance applies to me because of the fact that I may depend on learning some things from other individuals the one thing in life that I need to learn most includes how to provide and work for myself. One way that self–reliance applies to me, is by going out and searching for a job with a specific goal in mind in order to buy the things I need to have in life for my family and I, rather than having to worry about if another person coming to support me to help me make it through, yet another month's worth of rent and... Humanity now believes they deserve special treatments or privileges without doing anything to deserve them. These feelings likely come from parents not expecting kids to get a job and buy them everything they want. entitlement may also stem from their parents taking care of everything and not making the children move out or take responsibility for their own actions. • 12. Entitlement To FAPE Analysis How has the entitlement to FAPE been defined through litigation and legislation and what has the effect been for students with disabilities? The case of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), found that education was an important function. The courts viewed education as playing an important role in the future of the United States and since states chose to provide it, education then is a right that must be available to all on equal terms ( (Murdick, Gartin, & Fowler, 2014). The question of equal terms has been an uphill battle for families that have children with disabilities. There were many acts that addressed educational issues of children with disabilities. The elementary and Secondary Act of 1965 was created to improve education for children that were disadvantaged and it expanded funding. 1974 Education of the Handicapped ... These acts help secure educational programs for those children that demonstrated disruptive behaviors due to their disability. It also provided help to state and local government by relieving them of some of the financial burden associated with educating students with special needs. IDEA 2004 defines FAPE as services that are provided at public expense, that the education meet educational standards, is appropriate for the child and conforms with the IEP (Murdick, 2014). In several cases judges have ruled on the bases of free and appropriate public education for all children. In Timothy(v) Rochester N.H. • 13. Changing Medicare And Social Security Changing Medicare and Social Security to means–tested benefits Policy Analysis Notably, the elderly populace is growing rapidly, and will reach 3.4 million or 12.8% of the population. Eventually, in the next thirty years older adults will comprise of 20% of the total population due to the aging of 76 million baby boomers (Olson, 2001). Seeing that, entitlement programs and means–tested benefits, are presented, in order to bolster this increment of older adults. Accordingly, around 96% of the American workforce is secured by Social Security and it is likewise estimated that 58 million American will receive a total of $816 billion in Social Security benefits (Moody and Sasser, 2015). In fact, today 56 million or 17% of the population is enlisted in Medicare (Leonard, 2015). Therefore, this has presented an open deliberation about the eventual fate of Medicare and Social Security and regardless of whether changing Medicare and Social Security to means–tested benefits, instead of entitlement programs can resolve the policy issues. Discussion At present, entitlement programs, which is, "a federal program that guarantees a certain level of benefits to persons or other entities who meet requirements set by law" (Entitlement Program, 2015) incorporates programs, for example, Medicare and Social Security. However, because of expanding insecurity of these programs the likelihood of changing Medicare and Social Security to means–tested benefits is being considered for a policy ... • 14. Is Privileges A Special Entitlement? It is safe to assume that many if not most individuals have heard the terms rights and privileges. What might not be safe to assume is that all of those individuals know the actual difference between the two terms. To clarify, AJ Oatsvall explains the difference as, "A privilege is a special entitlement granted to a restricted group or person, either by birth or on a conditional basis, and can be revoked. By contrast, a right is irrevocable and inherently held by all human beings." (Oatsvall, 2015, para. 1). This essentially suggests that privileges can be given to individuals and also taken away, yet a right is something that all individuals are entitled to. Despite some of the greatest efforts, some patients lost their lives. An evaluation carried out by government personnel and the office of the medical examiner, concluded that there was proof that over forty of those patients were given an overabundance amount of morphine prior to dying, seemingly euthanasia (Van Camp, 2014). Many viewed these findings to be that medical personnel had acted with intention to inflict death upon these patients; specifically a physician Anna Pou who was accused of homicide for four of the patients (Van Camp, 2014). There were arguments from both sides, one that it was pure murder not to be mistaken as euthanasia and the other side from Pou that she was not the person being portrayed or a person who displayed such characteristics and did not share in the belief of euthanasia (Van Camp, 2014). • 15. Martin Luther Entitlement Famous religious philosopher Martin Luther once said "...every Christian is by faith so exalted above all things that, in spiritual power, he is completely lord of all things, so that nothing whatever can do him any hurt." (Luther, Freedom of a Christian), and that, "all things are subject to him, and are compelled to be sub servant to his salvation" (Luther, Freedom of a Christian). Though Luther uses the word, "sub servant", to refer to the freedoms and liberties God has handed down to the Christian people, it has made me question about the deserved rights many people have thought of what is, or should be, deserved to them. Take this relatable scenario: You are sitting next to your best friend in class; the room is full of students and the teacher is passing out last week's test. After looking at both of your scores, you see that your friend did not do very well. Although you might be the one to brush this off as a learning opportunity, your friend might lay his/her head on their desk and start mumbling under their breath how this is not their fault and that he /she deserved that "A". Events like this alone have drawn me to this topic of entitlement. For in Luther's time, he believed that you and your faith alone should be enough dictate the entitlement of salvation, while the past version of the Christian Church believed that it was required for you to participate in the church services to reach that goal. Clearly there should be a ,"right path", to tread on, as Luther's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Nozick's Notion Of Historical Entitlement Nozick asserts that the state should not be able to prohibit capitalist transfers between consenting adults. In this paper I will argue that this claim is true in all circumstances regardless of the resulting inequality. I will begin my analysis by explaining why it is that Nozick makes this claim. This explanation will focus on articulating his detailed description of just acquisition and transfer of holdings. I will then move on to describe how Nozick's conclusion regarding just transfers results in him forbidding state intervention restricting capitalist acts. The focus here will be on detailing how Nozick's notion of historical entitlement combats the competing theories of justice in holdings, namely theories composed of end–state principles and patterned principles. Finally, I will address common concerns and anticipate rebuttals to Nozick's claim and show how they are unsuccessful in their attempts. Nozick believes that a state should not prohibit consensual transfers between fit individuals due in part to the sacrifice of liberty that it entails. Nozick puts forth a theory of entitlement that does not include such a sacrifice. It consists of two main components: the principle of justice in acquisition and the principle of justice in transfer. The two principles together bring about a state of justice in holdings. Justice in transfer is concerned with answering the question of how a person may rightfully transfer a holding to another individual as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is these that can turn a kind–hearted person vile, one trait that can cause this is the poison of entitlement. It can cause those afflicted to become narcissistic, become violent or abusive, and to be completely unaware of their own entitlement. The nature of entitlement is making one believe they deserve anything and everything it is that they might desire. This can cause problems in a variety of situations, but none more so than when the thing they desire is a person. This happens all too often in relationships and even out of them. It manifests in relationships as one member being overly controlling and possessive. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cairns debunks the idea that "young people expect everything to be handed to them without having to work for it" (Cairns, 2017, p.133). There is a misconception that millennials do not work hard, are addicted to praise, have a lack of respect for authority and are more entitled than any previous generation. When in reality they have to work harder due to the loss of entitlements compared to previous working generations. For instance, when Sedef got her dream internship at CMI she was grateful to... This leads to the second point of how the ethnography fails to give an in–depth clear definition who millennials are especially when the point of the ethnography is to debunk the negative persona placed on current western millennials. This causes Cairns arguments to lose its impact, due to the broad definition of millennials. The ethnography is convincing to understand that the myth of entitlement placed on millennials is wrong with the use of the many examples to understand the political, economic and social climate in North America. Essentially, the normalization of millennials being lazy and not working hard is created by the institution to allow oppressive entitlement to be the normal aspect to create social order. This causes the loss of basic rights due to the internalization of the norm, but the refusal to accept the status quo and to expect less has given the power to allow the stereotypes of millennials to remain. They believe just since they were born in America they hold the right to call themselves Americans. I believe however, that the right of citizenship must be earned. I believe such is true after watching, the movie "Starship Troopers." In this sci fi movie people are given the choice to become a citizen by serving two years in the Federal Service. This does not imply military occupations, but instead offers a wide variety of different jobs. Civilians (non–citizens) must serve a two year minimum service to their country to receive the right to vote, but once they have finished the service they receive pretty nice benefits. In modern America I believe this can be accomplished with a minimum of 1 year of national mandatory service. When people hear "mandatory service" they instantly believe that they will have to serve in the military, but they are wrong. Just this year alone, 5.78 million jobs will go unfilled in America, and almost all of those are outside of the military. Though in the Movie "Starship troopers" the military is the most glorified (and so it should be in modern America), they do not fail to mention how there are many other government jobs that people could fill, and all the while they are making their nation a stronger place. Narcissists are incapable of long term relationships, and the fact that families are now also having holes, shows that the narcissism level is increasing. A lot of times, children are being raised by their grandparents or one biological parent and a step–parent. This is due to the narcissist's need of a trophy significant other who helps them to feel good. For decades we have been consuming, as a group of people, more than we have been producing and we 've been financing it by mortgaging our children 's future through national debt and deficit spending. The question becomes, "How long can we continue to mortgage our children 's future and how many creditors are still willing to buy that mortgage?" I think the reckoning is approaching when we have to answer those questions. So what is that reckoning going to look like? • 29. The Argument Of Entitlement And Desert In this paper I will defend John Arthur's argument of entitlement and desert against Peter Singer's theory of our duty to the global poor. We as privileged citizens, living in a prosperous country, do have some responsibility to help the tens of thousands of children under the age of 5 who die everyday from starvation and treatable disease. It seems natural that we as citizens of a first world country have a duty to help the global poor through charity. However that "duty" is vague and is under heavy moral debate. We as privileged citizens, living in a prosperous country, do have some responsibility to help the global poor. However, this rightful duty should not necessarily live up to the extreme and overwhelming expectations of Peter Singer. John Arthur's argument ofentitlement and desert is more realistic, logical, and more applicable to the world we live in today. Peter Singer's central idea focuses around how grim death and suffering from lack of food, shelter and medical care really is. He further argues that if we can prevent something this unfortunate from happening, without sacrificing anything morally significant, we ought to do it. In other words, as privileged citizens, we ought to prevent all of the death and suffering that we can from lack of food, shelter and medical care from happening by giving our money and resources to charity (Chao, 2016, in–class discussion). To some people, it's this expectation to take this leap into the unbelievable and if they didn't they would be criticized or perhaps in less developed regions executed. Apprehension towards God is simply not even a question in some of these regions since their lives depend on it. With reasons like this, it seems to me that religion in itself is a sham to create this false sense of entitlement to the world as well as an unfair hope of an afterlife, so to me I can't believe in faith based religion. In theory much like love, faith is this grand idea that someone could love something for no apparent reason other than to just to be infatuated with it. This couldn't be farther from the truth though as no one in this world does something for nothing. There is always a motive to any one person's actions whether for greed or self–comfort. However, throughout history, it has been made clear through the various social classes that this is not the case within the realm of monetary value. It is for reasons such as this that the entitlement programs were born. Entitlement programs were created to provide security and assistance to those in need. They would allocate basic necessities for eligible persons and families to live comfortably until they are no longer necessary. Though a great deal of people across the country have benefited from these programs, it has come at a high cost to the government and the taxpayers. Because of the apparent success and high expenses, there are a number of arguments both for and against entitlement programs. This includes the extent of their benefits and costs, the amount spent to fuel them, and even their entire existence. Nozick includes arguments concerning the fundamental concept of patterned distribution on which redistributive taxation is built on. He also discusses his entitlement theory, which distinguishes between end–result and historical justice. In this paper, I will reconstruct Nozick's argument that redistributive taxation cannot be reconciled with the minimal state and the principle of self–ownership. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, those individuals or actors are responsible for reparations under the rectifications of injustices principle, not the entirety of a class in society, which is often the target of redistributive taxation. One counter response again uses Nozick's argument that a historical distribution must be viewed. If an individual follows the series of unjust acquisitions, it would eventually lead him or her to the Puritans staking a plot in Massachusetts. By this argument, it can be determined that at the time when the Puritans settled in Massachusetts, they were the only actors that illegitimately acquired property, violating the entitlement theory. As a result of this illegitimate transaction of property under, a precedent was established to other settlers that the land was inherently theirs. This precedent has enabled generations beyond the first settlers to enjoy privilege at the expense of minorities. Even if the progeny today followed Nozick's entitlement theory, they inherently received an advantage as a ripple effect from their ancestor's injustices. Reparations would only remove the first wave of injustices and would fail to remove the ripples that cascaded through time from the first injustice since it becomes difficult to effectively gauge whether or not an injustice as occur from an injustice that occurred centuries ago. Even with this counter argument, the original point still holds. As part of his "Entitlement Theory of Justice", Robert Nozick argues that patterned principles of distributive justice are ultimately unjust as they interfere with individuals' natural rights. A principle of distributive justice is "patterned" if it "specifies that a distribution is to vary along with some natural dimension, weighted sum of natural dimensions, or lexicographic ordering of natural dimensions," he explains. So, a principle that distributed goods in society to individuals according to need, usefulness to society, intelligence, or some combination thereof is pattered according to Nozick's definition. For those reasons, Nozick's entitlement theory is historical, meaning that what distribution of holdings is just depends on what actually happened in the past. It's also not patterned given that holdings don't uniformly vary with any natural dimension in his scheme; all that's important are the individual aims of the participants in the acquisition and transfer of holdings and that those acquisitions and transfers meet conditions 1–4 of his theory. The main problem with patterned principles of distributive justice such as "distribute from each's need according to each's need", as Nozick sees it, are that they don't take those relevant moral considerations into account. He notes: "We think it is relevant to ask whether someone did something so that he deserved to be punished, deserved to have a lower share." Rather, that principle merely considers the resulting structure of society after distribution to determine whether such distribution is just or not, effectively ignoring who owns the holdings being distributed in the first place and their intentions for their holdings. For Nozick, the situation is not one where some good is produced and there's an open question as to who owns it; typically, products are initially owned by their producers. The Themes Of Entitlement In Lucky Jim By Kingsley Amis Sam Torabi Ms. Cordia British and World Literature–7 November 17, 2017 Entitlement for the Ages Stigmas, judgments, and misconceptions surround the newest generation of today's society, cleverly named the "millennials," like a virus. This particular generation is often subject to criticism and even mockery, both justified and not justified. Similarly, the generation that is focused on in the events of the novel "Lucky Jim" by Kingsley Amis has been given the title of "entitled." This conception is shown through various characters and their respective developments, such as Jim, Dixon, and Bertrand. As Amis develops these characters, we begin to see why their reputation is both justified and not justified, and Amis leaves most of that interpretation open to the reader. Rather than forcing character traits by explicitly telling the audience how each character thinks, he uses point of view to open up major character decisions to the reader. In order to look at the general feelings and actions of characters through the lens of entitlement, it is important to define such a vague and often overused term. A TIME Magazine article, titled "The Me–Me–Me Generation," focuses on why millennials are the most narcissistic, self–centered generation in the history of western civilization. This attitude spreads not only among the upper and middle classes but reaches as far as those living in poverty, who are selfish but for entirely different reasons than their counterparts. According to the study, this movement of thinking inwards began with trying to artificially inflate the self–esteem of young adults in order to prevent them from thinking terribly about the world around them. That "self–esteem" movement began in the 70s, a decade of historical significance highlighted by the Cold War. The article further states that not all of this narcissism is not the fault of millennials, but because of the steady diet of entitlement, they have been fed. The author mentions that kids grow up watching reality shows, which are "basically documentaries about narcissists."
