Genesis 1:5 - Meditate the Scripture Daily bit by bit

1. Jod Mela Kotha Sahib (valla)
Guru Teg Bahadur sahib’s visit to village Valla.
2. After becoming Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur accompanied by prominent Sikhs like
Bhai Makhan Shah Lubhana, Bhai Dwarka Dass and Bhai Garrhia reached Amritsar to visit
Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in November 1664.
The Guru took a holy dip in the sacred tank (Srovar). In the mean time, the ministers of the
holy place closed the doors of holy temple and did not permit entry to the Guru. Guru did
not press or forced his entry to the sacred place.
However, the guru addressed the priests and said that what sort of the administrators of
Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) they were that in spite of living in the source of nectar, their
minds were full of lust.
4. From Amritsar, Guru went to the village Valla, which is located at a distance of about 6 km
from Amritsar on the Mehta Road. People of that area welcomed the Guru with warm
hearts. The Guru got pleased by the hospitality shown by the people and blessed that
place by saying “Valla Guru Ka Galla” (Valla is the bowl of Guru).
6. He went to Mata Haro’s home situated to the eastern side of Vallah. She served him from
the core of her heart. The Guru blessed her saying “Maiaan rabb rajaian” (Upon women
may rest God`s favour). GURU SAHIB stayed at the Kacha house of Mai Haro ji for 17 days.
Gurdwara Kotha Sahib (Guru’s house) has been built at that place in the memory of the
Guru. The Guru stayed at that place for seventeen days. When people of Amritsar came
to know that the Guru was not allowed to enter the Golden Temple, they came to Valla,
apologised and requested the Guru to accompany them to Amritsar.
The Guru refused to go with them, but blessed them saying that if the people of Amritsar
visited that location during the fair on full moon day, they would remain happy. Every
year, a large number of devotees throng the holy spot to celebrate the annual fair, held
on the full moon day. The month long fair starts on February 6. It is a unique example of
ardent faith and devotion.
