Ganesh Chaturti is a Hindu festival celebrated in the lunar month of Bhadrapada to honor the birth of Lord Ganesha. It lasts 10-12 days, ending on Annant Chaturti. The story describes how Parvati created Ganesha from dirt on her body to guard her while she bathed. When Shiva returned, Ganesha stopped him from entering and a fight ensued. Shiva beheaded Ganesha, upsetting Parvati. Shiva revived Ganesha by replacing his head with that of an elephant.
