2. Introduction
+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit. Amen
One thing I have asked of the Lord,
this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life;
to behold the beauty of the Lord
and to seek Him in His temple.
Amen. Alleluia.
If you are praying with another person – read responsively
where appropriate
3. The Psalm – Psalm 22
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
1-2 God, God . . . my God! Why did you dump me miles from nowhere?
Doubled up with pain, I call to God all the day long. No answer. Nothing.
I keep at it all night, tossing and turning.
3-5 And you! Are you indifferent, above it all, leaning back on the cushions of
Israel’s praise? We know you were there for our parents:
they cried for your help and you gave it; they trusted and lived a good life.
6-8 And here I am, a nothing—an earthworm, something to step on, to squash.
Everyone pokes fun at me; they make faces at me, they shake their heads:
“Let’s see how GOD handles this one; since God likes him so much, let him help
him!”
9-11 And to think you were midwife at my birth, setting me at my mother’s
breasts! When I left the womb you cradled me; since the moment of birth
you’ve been my God.Then you moved far away and trouble moved in next door.
I need a neighbor.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
4. Short Reading and Meditation
We do not proclaim
ourselves, but Christ
Jesus, the Lord. We are
your servants for Jesus’
sake.
Thought for Today
To thinks that this was
the scripture Christ
quoted from the cross.
How abandoned,
alone, and hopeless he
felt in that moment.
Into these moments in
my own life I proclaim
Christ – not glorified –
but first crucified.
2 Corinthians 4:5
5. Prayer
Pray Silently or Aloud for Others and Yourself
Lord in Your Mercy
Hear My(Our) Prayer
O God, Who are the unsearchable abyss of peace, the ineffable
sea of love, the fountain of blessings, and the bestower of
affection, Who sends peace to those that receive it; open to us
this day the sea of Your love, and water us with the plenteous
streams from the riches of Your grace. Make us children of
quietness, and heirs of peace. Kindle in us the fire of Your love;
sow in us Your fear; strengthen our weakness by Your power;
bind us closely to You and to each other in one firm bond of
unity; for the sakd of Jesus Christ. AMEN.
