 Evreii locuiau în preponderența în orașe precum
Chișinău dar și în celelalte orașe mari ale
Basarabiei.
 Populația Chișinăului la sfârșitul secolul al 19-
lea alcătuia aproximativ 50 000 de locuitori ceea
ce constituia 45 % din totalul populației.

Apartenenţa religioasă a populaţiei Basarabiei conform
recensământului din 1897 :

19,8 mii (1%) crestini catolici;
54,3 mii (2,8%) crestini prorestanti;
