1. A SUMMARY OF ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE AUTHORITY
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority has made substantial gains in the effort towards opening up rural Kenya in the past five years. These achievements have been
geared towards attaining the goals outlined in strategic National Government Policies and directives, including providing support for the Big Four Agenda.
Driven by the need for improved accessibility and mobility in rural areas and to support primary growth sectors of the economy; the Government embarked on
a programme, namely the Low Volume Sealed Roads (LVSR) Programme. The objective of this programme is to upgrade 10,000km of roads to bitumen standard.
Currently, over 2,500km of roads have so far been improved to bitumen standard under this programme with a total of 145 contracted road works ongoing that shall
cover a total of approximately 6,255km at a cost of Ksh283 billion. These works are currently at various stages of progress with 15 projects substantially complete.

Levy Fund (RMLF). Through this, over 30,000km of Roads were maintained countrywide in Financial Year 2018/19 alone. Maintenance of roads has contributed over
time to great improvement in the good to fair condition of the road network from 44% in 2009 to 57% in 2018. As a result of this improvement, completely new
towns have sprung up in some areas in addition to roads transforming entire communities by improving access to socio-economic amenities such as health centers,
learning institutions and markets.
As an Authority, we are proud of this tremendous achievements towards opening up rural Kenya.
