Grepolis Guide
TRIPWIRES:
All members of all our alliances are expected to send (and maintain) a [i]tripwire[/i] to their
neighboring cities that, have blue and green flags. Doing so is our best way of being alerted to
possible revolts. [color=#D60101]It is our [i]Early Warning System[/i].[/color]
A [i]tripwire[/i] consists of between 1 & 3 swordsmen sent [u]as support[/u] (and left there) to each
of your neighboring cities that, have blue and green flags.
You should also look at nearby islands that may have only one or, two cities with blue and green
flags. Send [i]tripwires[/i] to them (1-3 swordsmen & 1 transport boat) as well.
If, any city where you have a [i]tripwire[/i] is attacked, a report will be generated for you.
If, no swordsmen were killed there is no revolt.
If, all swordsmen were killed, it should be considered as a revolt.
If, your [i]tripwire[/i] has been killed, replace it immediately.
Once a report has been generated for you, you should [u]always[/u] publish that report in our
Alliance Forum under the Defensive Ops tab and in the [i]Tripwire Reports[/i] thread as soon as
possible.
If, you dont know how to publish a report, there are instructions on how to do this in our INFO tab
("How To Publish A Report").
Again....if, you do not yet have your tripwires in place, do so right now!
One individually posted request, per each city in need, in the Defense tab (preferably posted by the
owner of the city in need).
HOW TO POST THE SUPPORT REQUEST FORM (Ask for help in defending your city):
Go to the Alliance Forum and then, Defense. Open the Support Request Form thread.
1) Highlight the parts of the Support Request Form that you want to copy by placing the cursor at
the beginning or end of that which you want to copy and then, left click the mouse and keep it held
down then, move up or down until the entire portion you want is highlighted in blue.
2) Depress and hold down the CTRL button.
3) Then, while the CTRL button is held down, depress the "C" button, briefly.
4) Close the Support Request Form thread.
5) Go to Alliance Forum - Defense/Revolt and click on New Subject to create a new thread.
6) Depress and hold down the CTRL button.
7) Then, while the CTRL button is held down, depress the "V" button, briefly.
8) Enter a Subject Title at the top of page (Do not mark as "important").
9) Click on Create Subject to save the form.
10) Click on the thread you have created and then click on the EDIT button.
11) Enter in all info and publish ALL Attack Reports. Especially be sure to post any and all Revolt-
Reports showing the attack(s) that put your city into revolt at the bottom of this form.
12) Answer/Fill In all of the questions about your city on this form.
13) Click on SAVE.
If you are the victim of multiple revolts of your cities please note that:
1) You may make a TEMPORARY posting listing all of your revolted cities and their Phase 2/RR times
in the Defense tab.
2) Unless it is an absolute emergency, you are then (within 1 hour) expected to create an individual
support request thread for each revolted city.
3) It is also expected that you post a completed Support Request Form and a copy of any and all
Revolt-Reports in those individual support request threads, for each city that is in revolt. Be certain
that you DO NOT delete those reports or no one else can see them even if, you have already posted
them in the forum.
4) List how many incoming attacks and their landing times for each city unless, there are so many
inbound attacks that it is ridiculous to do so. In that case, list the first and the last attacks only and
their landing times.
5) If your Wall goes up or down in level, edit your SUPPORT REQUEST accordingly and as swiftly as
you are able to.
6) If our enemies begin to show more interest in one of your cities than was previously the case (i.e.
it is now receiving more attacks than before), SAY SO in the thread that you have created for that
city. We cannot help if we do not know. AND we NEED to know.
7) If you need support, DO NOT call for it in one of the Reports (Defense or Tripwire) tabs. Create an
individual thread for that city in the Defense tab.
8) Do NOT just wait around for someone ELSE to post a support request in the Defense tab FOR YOU.
Post it your damn self (unless you are dead or in the hospital).
9) If your city is out of revolt according to the last revolt report that you have posted in your support
request and you have not recently updated that support request to let us know that you still need
support there, IT WILL BE DELETED, once the revolt is concluded. Keep us updated or find out the
hard way.
10) Our enemies use external sites that log every time you are online in Grepolis. They use these
sites so that, they can determine when you are most likely offline. That is their premium time to
attack your cities. So if, you come online and go to bed pretty much at the same time every day, our
enemies know WHEN to attack your cities. There is only ONE WAY to foil that kind of thing and that
is to make your gaming schedule a bit more erratic. To do that you must stay later and come in
earlier than usual, a couple (or more) times a week (not just on the weekends). If you REALLY want
to make it difficult for your enemies to know your online times, set an alarm clock before you go to
bed and come back into the game for an hour (or so) in the middle of the night, twice a week (or
more). You can all do this or always be at the whim of our enemies. Because right now, our enemies
are attacking (more often than not) our cities right after your regularly scheduled bedtimes, tearing
down your defenses and revolting your cities so that, you walk into a total shit-storm the next
morning (when you might not have time to deal with it). Become less predictable or you will be
losing cities.[/[u]size][/u]
How To Publish A Report:
1) Go to Reports
2) Click on the report that you want to publish for all members to see.
3) Click on Publication
4) Place a check mark in the box that will show the forces of the one
who is attacking you OR the one that you are attacking (never show
your OWN troops).
5) Click on Save
6) Depress and hold down the CTRL button.
7) Then, while the CTRL button is held down, depress the "C" button,
briefly.
8) Close Reports windows.
9) Go to Alliance Forum/Reports and post a reply in the appropriate
reports thread.
10) Depress and hold down the CTRL button.
11) Then, while the CTRL button is held down, depress the "V"
button, briefly.
12) Click on Create Post.
 A guide that i have seen pop up in a couple alliances i have run, use it if you want or
not, good way to start a world

If you have cities in the danger zone, you should have 2 br cities instead of one, and
make 3 or 4 of your nukes hops/char.
UNIT BREAKDOWN:
LS NUKE:
KEEP YOUR BARRACKS AT LVL 5 OR LESS, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO
HAVE AROUND 250 LS IN AN LS NUKE
SLINGER/HOP NUKE:
DO NOT BUILD ANY SWORDS/ARCHERS OR BR IN THESE CITIES. YOU
SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE 70 LS, 85 FAST TRANSPORTS, AND ENOUGH
TROOPS TO FILL THEM. DO NOT BUILD NUKES WITH LESS THAN 60LS
ESCORTING THEM! IT IS ALSO A VERY GOOD IDEA TO HAVE 20
CATAPULTS MIXED IN WITH AT LEAST HALF OF YOUR NUKES. 20
CATAPULTS CAN WRECK A WALL AND ALLOW THE REST OF YOUR
NUKES THROUGH WITH MUCH LESS OPPOSITION.
LAND DEF:
AROUND 115 FAST TRANSPORTS AND SWORDS OR ARCHERS AND
HOP/CHAR TO FILL THEM (YOU CAN BUILD MORE FT THAN THIS IF YOU
DO IT RIGHT)
BIREME CITY:
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE OVER 300 BR IN YOUR BR CITIES. KEEP
YOUR BARRACKS LOW.
GODS:
Mythical Creatures:
Manticores are very good bc they do not use Transport space, but they are VERY
slow to build and require ALOT of favor...still, something to think about. Medusa is
also a VERY good all around unit. Good at offense AND defense...actually the best
offensive unit (per farm space) in the game.
I have said this before but now it seems some may actually be experiencing this. YOU
CAN NEVER HAVE TO MUCH FAVOR PER HOUR every .1/h matters. 3 of my
gods are at 40/h+ and I still run out of favor. You need Hera & Poseidon to rebuild
quickly or to help a fellow member rebuild quickly. You need Zeus and Athena to
fortify your attacks or to aid a fellow member in defending their towns by casting
divine sign or patronage.
I have heard ALL the arguments that the farm space lost does not justify the return but
you are seriously misinformed the faster you can rebuild, cover attacks or bolster a
fellow members defense is paramount to being successful.
If you are someone who has one god or keep your temples at the minimum you are
doing the rest of us a disservice. I have played this game before and the alliance I was
in they could fill my city with troops in a matter of an hour that combined with the
support that was coming in I never lost a city. It helps believe me.
Then you need to rebuild your forces after an offensive or defensive battle rebuilding
at regular speed just doesn't cut it it takes you twice as long as other members to be
back in the game, when most times we need you NOW or helping others get back up
to speed quickly.
Something to think about
Dodging attacks
One very important tactic to use....especially at the early stages of a world is called "dodging."
When you "dodge an attack," it means that you see the attack coming and you send ALL of your
troops, ALL of your ships and ALL of your resources out of your city before the attack lands.
To do this, you send your troops and ships to the city of a nearby alliance member as SUPPORT
and then bring them back AFTER the attack is over. Also, you may send your resources to another
alliance member as trade or....upgrade one of your farming villages on your island with all of your
resources. Dont forget to go to your Farm and ENLIST THE MILITIA!
WHY?:
Because, it will keep the attacker from killing any of your troops/ships and if you have no
resources.....he cant take any. That way, you are denying the attacker ANY battle-points AND you
are also denying him any resources with which he can use to build more troops and ships to attack
you with. Even more importantly, you are saving your troops and biremes so that you still have
them to defend with if your city is put into Revolt. Trying to defend the city before a revolt has
begun (especially, if you are under heavy attack (many attack waves inbound) will only deny you
the ability to defend the city when it is REALLY important. Attackers will always try to whittle your
defensive capabilities down BEFORE Phase 2 of an alliance has begun so that you cannot defend
against the Colony Ship attack, later.
Of course, the downside of this particular tactic is that your attacker might send Catapults to
attack with and end up tearing your wall down. If this happens, ask for resources to be sent to
your city so, you can rebuild the wall.
A really important trick to learn is to dodge your troops out of the way when trying to snipe a CS.
Normally when you try to snipe from other cities you have the anti-timer give you a random +/- 10s
adjustment to the landing times.
However, if you have some troops or Birs in the city under attack, you can time a snipe to the
second. The trick is to send them out to support a nearby city, then recall them. The anti-timer does
not adjust the time of their return so you can get the snipe to the second.
An example helps...
59s before the CS arrives you send your troops out to support a nearby city.
29s later you cancel your support - the troops turn around
29s later, your support returns home again, 1s in-front of the CS.
You have to be very accurate on your 'clicks', and also be careful not to send them too early
otherwise you can't cancel and recall them. It's also very pressured to find the right window when
under heavy attack. However, I've sniped countless CS doing this.
Hope that makes some kind of sense. If you've never done it before make sure you do some practice
runs to get your it right! I can't find it in here, but an old member Bozzie73 wrote a much better
version than above if anyone still has it?
Research
It is very important that each of you know that you cannot research ALL of the possible research
topics in your Academy. You have only a limited number of research points that you can use. So,
you must use them wisely. Below is a suggested listing of what to research in your cities:
City Guard
Ceramics
Trainer
Shipwright
Colony Ship (In ALL Cities)
Conscription
Biremes
Light Ships
Catapult
Plow
Bunks
Mathematics
Phalanx (in ALL Cities)
Battering Ram (In ALL Cities)
Cartography
Conquest (In ALL Cities)
Divine Selection (In ALL Cities)
Stone Hail
Battle Experience (In ALL Cities)
Set Sail
Those above research topics are pretty much a MUST in your cities. You will have some leftover
research points to research other things. If you have a Flying Nuke city (a city that ONLY has
Manticores, Harpies or Griffins and little or no other types of troops) it is also wise to research
Temple Looting.
Depending upon whether your city is an Offensive City or a Defensive City you will need to
research:
Offensive City: (one or two of these)
Horsemen
Hops
Slingers
Defensive City: (all 3)
Swordsmen
Archers
Hoplites
Please note: Fast Transport Boats are not on the above listing. While they are great to have on
slower worlds or to send troops from cities a long distance away from their targets, they are not
really needed on faster worlds.

  • 1. Grepolis Guide TRIPWIRES: All members of all our alliances are expected to send (and maintain) a [i]tripwire[/i] to their neighboring cities that, have blue and green flags. Doing so is our best way of being alerted to possible revolts. [color=#D60101]It is our [i]Early Warning System[/i].[/color] A [i]tripwire[/i] consists of between 1 & 3 swordsmen sent [u]as support[/u] (and left there) to each of your neighboring cities that, have blue and green flags. You should also look at nearby islands that may have only one or, two cities with blue and green flags. Send [i]tripwires[/i] to them (1-3 swordsmen & 1 transport boat) as well. If, any city where you have a [i]tripwire[/i] is attacked, a report will be generated for you. If, no swordsmen were killed there is no revolt. If, all swordsmen were killed, it should be considered as a revolt. If, your [i]tripwire[/i] has been killed, replace it immediately. Once a report has been generated for you, you should [u]always[/u] publish that report in our Alliance Forum under the Defensive Ops tab and in the [i]Tripwire Reports[/i] thread as soon as possible. If, you dont know how to publish a report, there are instructions on how to do this in our INFO tab ("How To Publish A Report"). Again....if, you do not yet have your tripwires in place, do so right now! One individually posted request, per each city in need, in the Defense tab (preferably posted by the owner of the city in need). HOW TO POST THE SUPPORT REQUEST FORM (Ask for help in defending your city): Go to the Alliance Forum and then, Defense. Open the Support Request Form thread. 1) Highlight the parts of the Support Request Form that you want to copy by placing the cursor at the beginning or end of that which you want to copy and then, left click the mouse and keep it held down then, move up or down until the entire portion you want is highlighted in blue. 2) Depress and hold down the CTRL button. 3) Then, while the CTRL button is held down, depress the "C" button, briefly. 4) Close the Support Request Form thread.
  • 2. 5) Go to Alliance Forum - Defense/Revolt and click on New Subject to create a new thread. 6) Depress and hold down the CTRL button. 7) Then, while the CTRL button is held down, depress the "V" button, briefly. 8) Enter a Subject Title at the top of page (Do not mark as "important"). 9) Click on Create Subject to save the form. 10) Click on the thread you have created and then click on the EDIT button. 11) Enter in all info and publish ALL Attack Reports. Especially be sure to post any and all Revolt- Reports showing the attack(s) that put your city into revolt at the bottom of this form. 12) Answer/Fill In all of the questions about your city on this form. 13) Click on SAVE. If you are the victim of multiple revolts of your cities please note that: 1) You may make a TEMPORARY posting listing all of your revolted cities and their Phase 2/RR times in the Defense tab. 2) Unless it is an absolute emergency, you are then (within 1 hour) expected to create an individual support request thread for each revolted city. 3) It is also expected that you post a completed Support Request Form and a copy of any and all Revolt-Reports in those individual support request threads, for each city that is in revolt. Be certain that you DO NOT delete those reports or no one else can see them even if, you have already posted them in the forum. 4) List how many incoming attacks and their landing times for each city unless, there are so many inbound attacks that it is ridiculous to do so. In that case, list the first and the last attacks only and their landing times. 5) If your Wall goes up or down in level, edit your SUPPORT REQUEST accordingly and as swiftly as you are able to. 6) If our enemies begin to show more interest in one of your cities than was previously the case (i.e. it is now receiving more attacks than before), SAY SO in the thread that you have created for that city. We cannot help if we do not know. AND we NEED to know.
  • 3. 7) If you need support, DO NOT call for it in one of the Reports (Defense or Tripwire) tabs. Create an individual thread for that city in the Defense tab. 8) Do NOT just wait around for someone ELSE to post a support request in the Defense tab FOR YOU. Post it your damn self (unless you are dead or in the hospital). 9) If your city is out of revolt according to the last revolt report that you have posted in your support request and you have not recently updated that support request to let us know that you still need support there, IT WILL BE DELETED, once the revolt is concluded. Keep us updated or find out the hard way. 10) Our enemies use external sites that log every time you are online in Grepolis. They use these sites so that, they can determine when you are most likely offline. That is their premium time to attack your cities. So if, you come online and go to bed pretty much at the same time every day, our enemies know WHEN to attack your cities. There is only ONE WAY to foil that kind of thing and that is to make your gaming schedule a bit more erratic. To do that you must stay later and come in earlier than usual, a couple (or more) times a week (not just on the weekends). If you REALLY want to make it difficult for your enemies to know your online times, set an alarm clock before you go to bed and come back into the game for an hour (or so) in the middle of the night, twice a week (or more). You can all do this or always be at the whim of our enemies. Because right now, our enemies are attacking (more often than not) our cities right after your regularly scheduled bedtimes, tearing down your defenses and revolting your cities so that, you walk into a total shit-storm the next morning (when you might not have time to deal with it). Become less predictable or you will be losing cities.[/[u]size][/u] How To Publish A Report: 1) Go to Reports 2) Click on the report that you want to publish for all members to see. 3) Click on Publication 4) Place a check mark in the box that will show the forces of the one who is attacking you OR the one that you are attacking (never show your OWN troops). 5) Click on Save 6) Depress and hold down the CTRL button. 7) Then, while the CTRL button is held down, depress the "C" button, briefly.

BR: +WOOD, -SILVER LAND DEF: +WOOD/SILVER, -STONE HOP NUKE CHAR NUKE: +SILVER,-WOOD CERBERUS NUKE +SILVER,-WOOD HYDRA NUKE +WOOD,-STONE HARPY NUKE: +WOOD, -STONE: MANTICORE NUKE: +WOOD -STONE: CHAR NUKE: +STONE, -WOOD LEGEND: LS: Lightships BR: Biremes Hop: Hoplite Char: Chariot If you have cities in the danger zone, you should have 2 br cities instead of one, and make 3 or 4 of your nukes hops/char. UNIT BREAKDOWN: LS NUKE:
  • 5. KEEP YOUR BARRACKS AT LVL 5 OR LESS, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE AROUND 250 LS IN AN LS NUKE SLINGER/HOP NUKE: DO NOT BUILD ANY SWORDS/ARCHERS OR BR IN THESE CITIES. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE 70 LS, 85 FAST TRANSPORTS, AND ENOUGH TROOPS TO FILL THEM. DO NOT BUILD NUKES WITH LESS THAN 60LS ESCORTING THEM! IT IS ALSO A VERY GOOD IDEA TO HAVE 20 CATAPULTS MIXED IN WITH AT LEAST HALF OF YOUR NUKES. 20 CATAPULTS CAN WRECK A WALL AND ALLOW THE REST OF YOUR NUKES THROUGH WITH MUCH LESS OPPOSITION. LAND DEF: AROUND 115 FAST TRANSPORTS AND SWORDS OR ARCHERS AND HOP/CHAR TO FILL THEM (YOU CAN BUILD MORE FT THAN THIS IF YOU DO IT RIGHT) BIREME CITY: YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE OVER 300 BR IN YOUR BR CITIES. KEEP YOUR BARRACKS LOW. GODS: Mythical Creatures: Manticores are very good bc they do not use Transport space, but they are VERY slow to build and require ALOT of favor...still, something to think about. Medusa is also a VERY good all around unit. Good at offense AND defense...actually the best offensive unit (per farm space) in the game. I have said this before but now it seems some may actually be experiencing this. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TO MUCH FAVOR PER HOUR every .1/h matters. 3 of my gods are at 40/h+ and I still run out of favor. You need Hera & Poseidon to rebuild quickly or to help a fellow member rebuild quickly. You need Zeus and Athena to fortify your attacks or to aid a fellow member in defending their towns by casting divine sign or patronage. I have heard ALL the arguments that the farm space lost does not justify the return but you are seriously misinformed the faster you can rebuild, cover attacks or bolster a fellow members defense is paramount to being successful. If you are someone who has one god or keep your temples at the minimum you are doing the rest of us a disservice. I have played this game before and the alliance I was in they could fill my city with troops in a matter of an hour that combined with the support that was coming in I never lost a city. It helps believe me. Then you need to rebuild your forces after an offensive or defensive battle rebuilding at regular speed just doesn't cut it it takes you twice as long as other members to be back in the game, when most times we need you NOW or helping others get back up to speed quickly.
  • 6. Something to think about Dodging attacks One very important tactic to use....especially at the early stages of a world is called "dodging." When you "dodge an attack," it means that you see the attack coming and you send ALL of your troops, ALL of your ships and ALL of your resources out of your city before the attack lands. To do this, you send your troops and ships to the city of a nearby alliance member as SUPPORT and then bring them back AFTER the attack is over. Also, you may send your resources to another alliance member as trade or....upgrade one of your farming villages on your island with all of your resources. Dont forget to go to your Farm and ENLIST THE MILITIA! WHY?: Because, it will keep the attacker from killing any of your troops/ships and if you have no resources.....he cant take any. That way, you are denying the attacker ANY battle-points AND you are also denying him any resources with which he can use to build more troops and ships to attack you with. Even more importantly, you are saving your troops and biremes so that you still have them to defend with if your city is put into Revolt. Trying to defend the city before a revolt has begun (especially, if you are under heavy attack (many attack waves inbound) will only deny you the ability to defend the city when it is REALLY important. Attackers will always try to whittle your defensive capabilities down BEFORE Phase 2 of an alliance has begun so that you cannot defend against the Colony Ship attack, later. Of course, the downside of this particular tactic is that your attacker might send Catapults to attack with and end up tearing your wall down. If this happens, ask for resources to be sent to your city so, you can rebuild the wall. A really important trick to learn is to dodge your troops out of the way when trying to snipe a CS. Normally when you try to snipe from other cities you have the anti-timer give you a random +/- 10s adjustment to the landing times. However, if you have some troops or Birs in the city under attack, you can time a snipe to the second. The trick is to send them out to support a nearby city, then recall them. The anti-timer does not adjust the time of their return so you can get the snipe to the second. An example helps... 59s before the CS arrives you send your troops out to support a nearby city. 29s later you cancel your support - the troops turn around 29s later, your support returns home again, 1s in-front of the CS. You have to be very accurate on your 'clicks', and also be careful not to send them too early otherwise you can't cancel and recall them. It's also very pressured to find the right window when under heavy attack. However, I've sniped countless CS doing this. Hope that makes some kind of sense. If you've never done it before make sure you do some practice
  • 7. runs to get your it right! I can't find it in here, but an old member Bozzie73 wrote a much better version than above if anyone still has it? Research It is very important that each of you know that you cannot research ALL of the possible research topics in your Academy. You have only a limited number of research points that you can use. So, you must use them wisely. Below is a suggested listing of what to research in your cities: City Guard Ceramics Trainer Shipwright Colony Ship (In ALL Cities) Conscription Biremes Light Ships Catapult Plow Bunks Mathematics Phalanx (in ALL Cities) Battering Ram (In ALL Cities) Cartography Conquest (In ALL Cities) Divine Selection (In ALL Cities) Stone Hail Battle Experience (In ALL Cities) Set Sail Those above research topics are pretty much a MUST in your cities. You will have some leftover research points to research other things. If you have a Flying Nuke city (a city that ONLY has Manticores, Harpies or Griffins and little or no other types of troops) it is also wise to research Temple Looting. Depending upon whether your city is an Offensive City or a Defensive City you will need to research: Offensive City: (one or two of these) Horsemen Hops Slingers Defensive City: (all 3) Swordsmen Archers
  • 8. Hoplites Please note: Fast Transport Boats are not on the above listing. While they are great to have on slower worlds or to send troops from cities a long distance away from their targets, they are not really needed on faster worlds.
