The Project Charter is the documented output of the project initiation phases of project management. As such, it is the foundation scoping document describing the reasons for doing the project, the work to be done, who is involved, what costs will be incurred, when it should complete, and how issues will be addressed along the way. The student will follow this rubric in completing the Project Charter. The more thought given to the critical elements of the Project Charter the more prepared the student will be in completing Milestone Three and the Final Project.
Create a document that describes the objectives and purpose of the selected project for the organization. Identify benefits to be achieved that will define project success and how they will be measured. Identify what’s in scope and out of scope for the project or the current phase of the project. Identify the job function/title of project stakeholders, specifically the sponsor executive, the project team doing the work, and the users of the delivered technology solution. Describe the project governance and communications plan among the stakeholders. Define completion criteria, key deliverable milestones, and high-level time line targets. Identify budgetary items in terms of things and services to acquire and existing staff effort. Identify project risks in terms of likelihood, impact, and means for mitigation. Describe constraints in terms of impact to quality, time, and cost. Determine if this project has any interdependencies with other projects.
Specifically the following critical elements must be addressed:
• Project Initiation Control Information: including project name, approval date, project sponsor, project manager, primary customers/partners and project core team (by function)
• Business Need: including a brief overview and background information about the project, and a high-level explanation of what the project is to accomplish
• Objectives: including main objectives, benefits, and justifications for completing the project
• Scope: including an itemized description of the work of the project, and what is “in scope” and “out of scope”
• Stakeholders: including a list of stakeholders and summaries of stakeholder expectations
• Project Completion Criteria
• Budgetary Elements: including cost elements, skills required, estimated dollar value, and person hours with hourly rates
• Target Completion Timeline: including high-level milestones and an estimated target date for completion
• Risks
• Constraints
• Interfaces

PROJECT SELECTION SUMMARY 1
Intranet portal that provide Single Sign-on (SSO)
Single sign-on (SSO) for the intranet portal is a one of the
technology tools that allow the users to access the intranet
system using the authentication method. However, the system
does not allow passwords and usernames as part of the
authentication process. The process uses an automated
procedure to acquire authentication needs of a user. This
solution is efficient because it provides the users with an
experience that enable them locate intranet resources and other
applications. This technology provides an additional ability to
the users to control multiple application systems such as Google
and Microsoft Active Directory.
The concept of the solution is based on an enterprise portal that
3. can allow integration of Internet, external portals and intranet
(Balgieri 20). The system can involve multiple functionality
groups that facilitate the effectiveness in the operations of the
organization.
Impact on the organization
The system has the ability to reduce the operating costs of an
organization. SSO portal can allow buildup of separate sub-
system portals that operate differently to enable the company
gain efficiency and cut its operational costs (Yuan 41).
Operating three systems can be costly because of additional
infrastructure that is needed and licenses plus suppliers as well.
The connection of the systems can also be time consuming and
expensive. However, with the SSO intranet portal solution, the
creation of subsystems can be cheaper and effective. The
contents can be transferred to the pages independently.
Functions like external and internal customer services can be
established in an easy way that can be displayed on various
interfaces.
Testing time is reduced, and simple authentication methods are
deployed. The IT solution will allow a single password to be
used for the sub systems. The contents can be uploaded through
a single subsystem and then be re-published in the portal. The
intranet SSO solution also paves way for an extension to
extranet services (Balgieri 20).
Web interface
The first step in the implementation of the solution is setting up
a web interface. This interface is an internet page. The page is
then integrated to an intranet for the staff of the organization
and an extranet for the clients and partners. For small sized
organizations, the system may not be integrated at once.
However, for large and growing firms, the web interface must
be developed in a cost-effective and ideal way that caters for
the development process of the company.
System functionality
The following list shows some of the functionalities of the
portal;
4. · Personalization,
· User authentication
· Search
· Application aggregation and integration
· Collaboration
· Web management of the content
· Analytics
· Workflow
The requirement capabilities above will exist within a particular
portal environment where these capabilities are likely to be
needed. Combining specific capabilities depending on the needs
of the business, an appropriate type of the portal can then be
chosen from multiple vendors available.
Environment and skills for the solution
SSO portal solutions are developed for various operating
systems depending on the vendor. However, all the application
servers for the intranet portal and the client device should be in
the same intranet zone and domain. The users are managed
using Active Directory or any other directory that an
organization uses (Yuan 36).
When planning for web authentication, it is important to ensure
that appropriate proxy server is selected to manage traffic from
the HTTP users. Skills for configuring web servers are needed,
and the installation skills.
