1. Al Falah Al Iktisady Journal
Al Falah Al Iktisady is an economic journal concerned with agricultural issues.
The journal stands out with two unique aspects. First, it was published at the
beginning of every ‘agricultural month’, which uses the ancient Egyptian and Coptic
calendar that starts with the month of Tut (the equivalent of September 11) The
agricultural year begins with the second Coptic month of Baba (the equivalent of
October 11). Therefore, the journal alerted farmers to necessary agricultural tasks to
be carried out every month. Second, the journal was distributed for free. Its owner and
editor was Thabet Thabet, a major merchant of chemical fertilizers in Egypt. His
stores were located in 16 Al Manakh Street, Cairo and 2 Ishak Al Nadim Street,
Alexandria. He was also the general representative of the union of German
nitrogenous chemical fertilizers, and the journal was a form of indirect advertisement
for these products.
The first issue appeared in Baba 1650- October 11 1934, but the date of
publication of its last issue is unknown. The first issue was published in Misr Printing
Press on 40 Nubar Pasha Street 9previously Al Mobtadayan St.), then it was
published in the Motaheda Printing Press on 33 Al Madabegh Street, owned by Dr.
Photyadis and Co.. Finally, publishing continued from Al Ikhaa Printing Press on 17
Al Rowey Street. The journal included five fixed columns: the agricultural section,
the industrial section, the commercial section, the financial section and the monthly
summary. There was also an annual issue published every summer, but under
different conditions.
