o In 1946, the ILO became daughter organization of the United Nations
o It is considered first and oldest

and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland
3. Objectives
Promote and realize standards and fundamental principles and rights at
work
Create greater opportunities for women and men to decent employment
and income
Enhance the coverage and effectiveness of social protection for all
Strengthen tripartism and social dialogue
4. In Pakistan
Pakistan joined ILO in 1947 and its headquarter was established in 1970 in
Islamabad
Pakistan has till now ratified 36
international conferences.
Apart from that Pakistan has made
Legislation on labor and social rights that
Is for the well being of workers.
5. ILO in Pakistan
Its main aims are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment
opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue in handling
work-related issues.
The ILO’s major work in Pakistan has covered a wide range of activities:
promotion of International Labour Standards; prevention and elimination of child
and bonded labour; job creation through employable skills; mainstreaming
gender equality; strengthened labour market governance; employment and
livelihoods recovery in response to conflicts and crises; expansion of social
security schemes and social safety nets, especially in the informal economy and
the promotion of tripartism and social dialogue
6. It is a project funded by foreign commonwealth and
development office that aims to eliminate
child labor and to protect and educate them
from Pakistan till 2030.

7. Promoting Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
in the Cotton Supply Chain
Provincial labor department and ministry of
agriculture have partnered with ILO for better
living and welfare of workers in cotton agriculture
and textile industry.
The project aims to foster a partnership approach
among the partners on promoting Fundamental
Principles & Rights at Work (FPRW) for a sustainable
cotton supply chain in Pakistan.
8. International Labour and Environmental Standards
Application in Pakistan’s SMEs (ILES)
the ILO office for Pakistan will help tripartite partners and other stakeholders to
strengthen national labour and environmental standards compliance with
international standards to increase competitiveness, sustainable and inclusive growth
in Pakistan.
The project will also implement pilot interventions in selected enterprises in textile
and leather sectors to develop business cases for compliance with labour and
environmental standards.
9. Use of robots in industry as labour
To reduce cost factory and industry owners are planning to bring robots
that will diminish the need of humans as laborers
ILO has urged the member countries to follow human centered labor in every
day task where workers are present.
ILO will help countries to pass laws regarding this.
The main objective is to help working class from being unemployed.

Lack of proper legislation and laws
Inappropriate structure to implement the laws
Lack of funding to help the major bulk of labors in need
Difficulty to bring all member countries on a single page for any
amendment
Low ratification rates of its conventions
Restrictive decision making processes
Weak coordination and insufficient cooperation with social partners
