Internal Hardware is also called components. It includes
• CPU
• MOTHERBOARD
• RAM
• ROM
TYPES OF HARDWARE
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
• It is the brain of computer.
• Most of calculations take place here
• Two typical components of a CPU are Arithmetic Logic Unit and Control Unit
• It is the main circuit board of a microcomputer.
• It contains the CPU , Memory , expension slots and all the controllers required to controll
the standard hardware system.
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU)
MOTHERBOARD
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
• Ram is a place in the computer where the operating system ,
application programs and data in the current use are kept.
• It is a temporary memory and can be compared to a person’s short term memory.
• It is a technology that allows you to write data only once .
After the data is has been written , it can be read an unlimited number of times.
RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY ( RAM)
READ ONLY MEMORY ( ROM)
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
Input hardware consist of external devices by which we give information and
instructions to the computer .
Common input devises are :
• Keyboard
• Mouse
• Scanner
INPUT HARDWARE
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
A display screen used to present output from a computer , video camera , VCR or other video
generator .
MONITOR
PRINTER
In computers a printer is a device that accepts text and graphic input from a computer and
transfer the Information to paper .
SPEAKER
Speakers or headphones to an output port to hear the audio produced by the computer.
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
Connecting devices allows the hardware devices to connect to each other.
Common devices are
• Modem
• LAN cord
CONNECTING HARDWARE
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
• Modem connects a personal or portable computer to dial up network
through a regular network line.
MODEM
LAN Cord
• A local area network card is used to provide wireless internet access to
computer users in home or roaming networks
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
A computer storage device is any type of hardware that stores data.
Common devices are
• Hard Disk
• Floppy Disk
• CD ROM
STORAGE HARDWARE
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
Magnetic disk on which you can store computer data. The term hard is used to distinguish it
from a soft or floppy disk.
HARD DISK
FLOPPY DISK
Flexible plastic disc coated with magnetic material and covered by a protective jacket, used
primarily by computers to store data magnetically.
CD ROM
A CD-ROM is a CD that can be read by a computer with an optical drive.
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
• A set of instructions that enable physical components of a computer to
work in a synchronised way is known as software.
• This set of instructions is often called program.
• Computers cannot do any useful work without instructions from software.
SOFTWARE
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
Computer software is also divided into four major types :
• System software
• Programming software
• Application software
• Utility software
TYPES OF SOFTWARE
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
System software helps in running computer system and computer hardware.
Main system softwares are:
• Operating system
• Device drivers
SYSTEM SOFTWARE
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
• An operating system is an interface between hardware and user ; it is
responsible for for the management and coordination of activities.
OPERATING SYSTEM
DEVICE DRIVER
• In computing , device deiver is a program aloowing higer level computer
programs to intract with a hardware device.
Roll No. : 315134 Class : 7th
Subject : Computer Time : 35 Min.
• It enables one to surf the web. Example MS Internel Explorer.
WORD PROCESSING SOFTWARE
• Enables user to create , edit the document. Example MS Word.
APPLICATION SOFTWARE
It enables the users to accomplish certain specific task .
Following are the types of application software
