1. 1. St. Barbara

Patron saint of l i g h t n i n g

Born in the 3 rd century

By Erica Romeo

 2. 2. Her Early life

Saint Barbara had a very wealthy father named Dioscorus. He did not believe in God.

When Saint Barbara was in her early years her father imprisoned her in a tower to keep her safe from the outside world. Barbara was baptized in secret by a priest and had private meetings to learn more about God.

 3. 3. The Third Window

Saint Barbara’s loving father finally decided to hire workers to build a bathing house for Barbara. When he went away on a business trip, Saint Barbara ordered the workers to create a third window in representation of the Trinity, even though that was against what they were told.

 4. 4. The Discovery

When the workers were nearly finished, Saint Barbara miraculously carved a cross in the side of the marble bath wall with her finger. When her fathered returned and discovered the third window, he stormed off to the workers and demanded to know why they didn’t follow his strict demands.

 5. 5. The Discovery 2

Dioscorus furiously requested to know why there was a cross put in a pagan bath house. The employees cowered back in fear because he was steaming with unnecessary rage. With trembling words they explained that his daughter had instructed them to do so.

 6. 6. The End of His Love

Dioscorus barged up the tower and grabbed Barbara by the arm. She pleaded with him not to hurt or yell at her but it was no use. He was already too provoked. Instead of lying to her father, Barbara confessed her faith to God. She told him about all of her love and devotion to our Lord, Jesus Christ.

 7. 7. The Truth Is Revealed

Then Barbara told her father about all of her love and devotion to our Lord, Jesus Christ. Barbara loved her father dearly, but knew what lay ahead of her. She was brought to prison and was forced to sacrifice to the pagan gods but no one would could change her mind.

 8. 8. Prison

Saint Barbara was taken to a prison and was tortured. She was beaten badly and salt was rubbed into her wounds.

 9. 9. Faith

Through all of Saint Barbara’s tortures her faith grew stronger. Her love and faith for God was brighter than ever.

After none of their cruel beatings had worked, they had no choice but to kill Barbara. Her own father offered to do the crime. She and another prisoner were taken to a mountainside and beheaded. Immediately after, Saint Barbara’s father was struck by a bolt of lightning that God descended on him. He was burnt to ashes for his sins.

 10. 10. The End

Saint Barbara lived a very holy and devoted life to God. She will always remain a role model for many people.

Thank you for your attention!!!
