“Oh GOSH! Reflecting on Hackteria's Collaborative Practices in a Global Do-It...
Digital perspective
1. Initial Perspective: When it comes to technology, I feel that many students don’t take as much
as advantages of it as they should until they reach upper grades and/or the teacher require them
to do so.
a. New Perspective: Until today’s class, I wasn’t aware of all the different
technologies that were available to enhance the classroom environment. When it
comes to technology, I believe that teacher should be more aware of all the
different tools and have trainings available to teach them how to use such tools in
their classroom.
b. Field Journal Example: Today, during the reading rotations, my buddy went to
centers. He was playing in the computer. The game he was playing was about
choosing the antonym or synonym of the words that popped in the screen. My
buddy didn’t know what he was doing. He was merely guessing and pressing
random buttons. He saw this center as a way to play in the computer. He didn’t
know there was a purpose behind the game.
c. Impact in the future: As a future teacher, we have to aware of all the different
technologies there are because we are going to be dealing with a generation that
are going to be even more technologically dependent that we are. It is very
important to show students that technologies like social network have a valuable
purpose other than wasting our time.
2) Initial Perspective: When it comes to professional standards, I believe that being
reliable, ethical, and one of the most important careers that server the public.
a. Same Perspective: I kept the same because I believe that all teachers should have
a higher ed. Degree specially Elem. School teachers because they are laying the
foundations to all the other grades.
b. Supporting Example: My own experience(EDu in the DR) and Global education project
. Video
c. Impact in the future: It was very interesting for me to research Haiti for the global
education project. After I graduate, I want to participate in the peace corp. And I always
imagine that teaching in Haiti would be the best because I would be able to practice my
French, I would be close to home, and yet I would be able to help students that need it.
3) Initial Perspective: When I think of a kindergarten Teacher I think of a nurturing, sweet person
with motherly characteristics. I think of this because kindergarten is such a hard transition for
many students that teachers are like a “mom”.
a. Change Perspective: I changed my perspective because teacher should be flexible and
adjust to their students needs.
b. Supporting Example: What lead to change my perspective was my experience in Mrs.
S’s Class.
c. Impact in the future: Initially, we might have an ideal job place. But in reality, budget
cuts and lay off do happen. So we have to move where the jobs are. There for as a
teacher, I have to be prepare to teach in any environment and be flexible to become the
teacher that my students need me to be. It’s easier for one person to adjust to 25 people
than vice-versa.
2. 4) Initial Perspective: When it comes to ELL students, I believe that I doesn’t make sense that a
student that barely speaks the language should be submitted to standardize testing. The teacher
should be aware of the students’ potential and accommodate the curriculum to each student’s
need.
a. Question: How can a teacher accommodate to a student’s particular need? How does one
find the balance to address everyone needs? Can one teacher even address everyone
needs?
b. Supporting Example: Class activity (Quotes about education) “There is nothing more
unequal that the equal treatment of unequal people” Thomas Jefferson.
c. Impact in the future: Future immigration pattern of the United States. 50 % of the
population will be part of a minority.
Feature Documentary: After I moved to the U.S., I started seeing education as a way of survival,
integration, and success. I’ve always like to work with people but I never imagine that becoming a teacher
was an option. I had this mind set mainly because being a teacher in my country is not a very worthy
profession. Its hard beyond believe and underpaid. As is commonly said “those who can’t do, teach”. But
I don’t believe that. I believe that teaching should be one of the most honorable professions out there.
Everyone starts in the same place, in kindergarten. People are not just born and decide to be doctors and
engineers. They have to go thru schools and in schools there are teachers that influence each of their
students one way or another.
This class have definitely open my eyes to issues in education that I never even though about. How my
kids received me every Tuesday morning, and how they asked when I was going to come back every time
I had to say “good bye” just reassure me even more that I want to become a teacher. I know it’s hard. And
I know there will be moments were I might be frustrated. Like that one time when I was an intern at Rock
Creek Forest and the teacher was sick for a whole week. My students were so out of control that went
home crying. But then the next week, they sent me like a 100 little notes apologizing for their behavior
and asking me to comeback because they missed me. Or like when I explained my buddy a word like a
10 times and he just didn’t understand. And one of the other students came and asked me for help to spell
a word my buddy said “She can help you, she knows how to spell every single word”. Those are the
moments that as a teacher, I will be looking for. So when someone asks me what I want to do. I wish I
could say this. (Video: What Teachers Make Final Moviebk2 0001

One student at a time.
