1. Evaluation: Question 2
How does your media product represent
particular social groups?

2. Kerrang magazine is a music magazine aimed at people
who enjoy the types of music it talks about; in other
words it represents people who listen to all kinds of rock
– be it heavy metal, screamer, indie, or light rock. People
who don’t enjoy those kinds of music, wont understand
the topics it talks about, the people its discussing or the
terminology it uses. This is a key aspect of Creechur; as
Kerrang is already such a large success in the UK, it
would be hard to introduce something of such a similar
nature to that particular circle – but by starting along the
same lines as Kerrang, it can earn the trust of the
readers. Although both Jared Leto, on the Kerrang
cover, and my character “Phoenix” are keeping eye
contact with the audience, both have quite an
intimidating look in their eyes. This adds to the image
that others have of people who like that kind of music.
3. There is a lot of bias that surrounds the rock-circle. The
majority of rock singers are white males with a certain
“fee” about them. This is why many people are surprised
to hear bands such as Paramore and Evanescence are
as successful as they are. I have both kept to and bent
away from this stereotype, as my artist is white, but is
female. Many find that this approach still discriminates,
but people who are in the interests of this genre, tend not
to feel that they are excluding. It is simply that their
music taste is a lot more specific to that of others.
