4. ACT 1: Act one begins with two friends walking through the woods after hearing rumours about a
supernatural being and go to explore. As the two main characters are joking around trying to
scare each other they walk into the dangerous territory. This is where we see a flashback to
around 70 years ago where someone gets attacked and killed in the same spot. The audience
can see it’s a flashback as there is a yellowed filter on the scene and the place appears much
newer, whereas the scene in present time has a bluish filter and the place appears more worn
down and old. As the characters go further into the woods they begin to hear noises, thinking
they are just paranoid, they continue, a little more afraid. They try to make a joke out of it and
continue.
ACT 2: The noises grow louder and more obvious and they begin to get really afraid. They carry
on a little more until one of the characters gets too afraid and decides to turn back, however the
camera can already see that the being is standing behind them, creating dramatic irony. As they
turn around the being is standing creepily behind them. They both begin to scream and turn
around to run, however after editing it will appear that as they turn around the being has
appeared in front of them. The being grabs one of the characters and kills him.
ACT 3: The other character has already started running, and after seeing the first character is
past saving, carries on sprinting into the woods, screaming and begging for help she carries on,
knowing the being could appear in front of her at any time. We see the character run past the
spot where the flashback is filmed and part of Act 1 is filmed and the last shot we see is her feet
running off.

6. Genre conventions?
Attracting target Audience?
Mood/Atmosphere creation?
Depth of field to focus on the protagonist, blurring the background making the audience panic when there is
movement they cannot see clearly (deep focus)
Extreme close-ups of protagonist's face to show their fear
Quiet scenes with sudden sounds to create tension; for example rustling of trees, loud bangs and a non diegetic
heart beat. Most of the sounds that are in supernatural thrillers are mostly diegetic sound
Slow editing can create suspense and an unsettling feeling because the audience senses because nothing has
been a fast pace for a while then something bad is going to happen
Canted angles
POV shots
Extreme close ups
7. Setting – time and place
Props – prop requests?
Lighting
Costume/makeup

9. Diegetic?
Dialogue/voiceover script: dialogue, trees

characters
Non- Diegetic?
quiet music to make the audience feel more
on the edge
10. We are going to use filters (blue or yellow) to indicate to the audience
that there is flashback from the past
Diegetic and non-diegetic sound; quiet music to create tension and
also we are going to use the characters dialogue, screaming and trees
rustling (everything the characters can hear)
Possible titles; THE FOREST, BEHIND YOU
When editing we are going to make it look as if the supernatural can
transport different places
