2. BASIC PLOTLINE
For our music video for “Feeling Good”- by Muse we wanted to create a video with
high impact because the dramatic sound of the song. There were many different
ways in which we could make our music video as dramatic and after much
discussion we finally came up with a plotline that we wanted to do for our music
video.
We decided as group that we wanted the story to be based around a newly engaged
couple who have a incident with a mugger leaving one of the seriously injured. We
thought that the context of this story would fit in well with the song, and would be
interesting narrative to follow.
Our music video was inspired especially by the work of Michelle Gondry and his
effective use of split screen. Because we really admired his work we wanted to try
and recreate this in our piece. To incorporate this in our music video we decided that
we wanted to have the perspective of both the couple and the mugger to give an
interesting viewpoint on the story, instead of portraying form one side of the story.
3. Because we were also portraying the viewpoint of the mugger we wanted to add
an element of surprise to the story. Instead of portraying the mugger as a
completely evil character we wanted the audience to fell a bit a of sympathy for
him. We decided that we would do this by portraying the mugger as a father
struggling to pay the bills and being forced into crime to provide of his family. We
wanted to reveal that the muggers true intention wasn’t actually to hurt anyone he
just needed the money.
To make the video more visually interesting we also wanted to have the muggers
perspective in reverse so that we could see the event which led up to the
mugging.
Because we had a split screen we decided that would we differentiate the different
perspective by having all of the couples shots as odd numbers on the left hand
side of the screen and all of the muggers shots as even numbers on the right
side.
It was quite difficult to draw to story board because I had double the amount of
shots to draw because of the split screen. Also because the perspective of the
mugger was in reverse I had to write all if the shots backwards and make sure
that everything made sense, otherwise the story would not make any sense to
audience and be very confusing.
4. Overall I am very happy with the storyboard and think that it clearly shows the
story that we are trying to tell the audience. Because we have been so thorough
we the storyboard and the descriptions of the different camera shots I think that it
will be very easy to film when it come to the production part of the project as we
have a clear direction as to what we should do.
I'm very pleased with the way in which our project is heading and hopefully this
will continue through the remainder of our project.
7. *Here we were going to have a scene of the
mugger outside the restaurant looking at the
couple the window however after discussion we
decided to go against this.
