Assessment 1 (digital age)
Use specific technologies to demonstrate understanding of the
characteristics of teaching in the digital age and implications
for a teacher.
Provides opportunities, over a period of five weeks, to
understand characteristics of the digital age and explore skills
required of teachers, including the skills of:
· critical thinking,
· collaboration,
· creativity and
· problem-solving
Part 1
Mind map: Create a mind map using a mind mapping tool of
your choice. Your mind map must focus on the characteristics
of the digital age.
The mind map demonstrates keen conceptual understanding and
the thoughtful categorisation of ideas.
Example that our teacher gave us it has to be something like
this but do not copy this.
Part 2
Write 450 words that builds on your mind map and addresses
the question: What skills will I need as a teacher in order to
teach effectively in the digital age? You will need to use first
person for this task.
Key characteristics of the digital age are identified and
challenges for teaching and learning are discussed through the
use of relevant, concrete and astute examples.
(4-5 references)
60 words intro
Body 350 words
60 words conclusion
Part 3
Blog-style post: A 400-word post in the style of a blog post
(using hyperlinks to other information, images, audio visual
material and the like (reference then all at the end of it))
that identifies and discusses the major challenges to your
teaching practice and your development as a teacher in the
digital age. Scholarly literature must be used to support any
claims made. You are to write in first person.
Why Blog?
· Final funnel
· Major Challenges to teaching and learning in the digital age
· No style requirements
This is the example that our teacher gave us but do not copy this
Assessment criteria

for teaching and learning (part 2 and 3).
2. Capacity to self-regulate, reflect and think critically.
3. Information literacy skills.
Marking guide
Grade
Descriptors
Pass [P 50-59%]
All aspects of the task have been completed, and the
requirements of all criteria have been met at a satisfactory
level. All work is your own original work unless where the
works of others have been integrated and referenced according
to APA conventions.
· The mind map contains several characteristics of the digital
age.
· The part 2 addresses the topic in a general way, is the required
length and refers to, or builds on, the mind map.
· The 400-word blog-style post identifies a limited number of
challenges to teaching and learning in the digital age and
discusses them in a rudimentary way. Few links to other sources
of information are included.
· The reference list contains a limited mix of scholarly and non-
scholarly works and an attempt has been made to reference
using APA conventions: reference details are in the correct
order.
· Conventions of written and spoken English are generally
adhered to. Careful proofreading has meant the elimination of
most typographical and spelling errors. In all communications,
word choice, sentence structure and grammatical issues do not
detract substantially from the communication of ideas.
Credit [C 60-69%]
To be awarded a Credit, you must fulfil all of the requirements
of the P level, but with more sophistication.
· The depth of knowledge and understanding of the
characteristics and major challenges to teaching and learning in
the digital age (through the mind map and the blog-style post).
· The clarity and organisation of ideas and information within
each aspect of the task.
· The level of competence with the digital tools used.
In addition:
· A wide and relevant range of skills required for effective
teaching are identified through a clearly-structured.
· There is broad coherence between the characteristics and
challenges of the digital age and the skills required for
teaching.
· Meaning is effectively communicated in each aspect of the
task.
· A wide range of literature has been effectively used to support
all claims, and citations are mostly correct.
Distinction [D 70-79%]
To be awarded a Distinction for this task students must meet all
the requirements of the credit level, but with more insightful
analysis, critical evaluation, capacity to engage an audience,
and competence in written communication.
· Highly developed competence in presenting information.
· Explicit knowledge of the characteristics and major challenges
of the digital age.
· Critical thinking (specifically clarity, precision and accuracy)
of the topic/s being addressed and of the information used to
support the stance presented.
· Clarity of thinking in relation to the relevant skills required
for effective teaching.
· Judicious examples of the challenges to teaching and learning.
In addition:
· The mind map is detailed and connections are clear within
each category.
· The part 2 is detailed, comprehensive, and articulate. The
quality of the part 2 is excellent and the structure of the
information presented is logical and well-ordered.
· The literature used to support all claims demonstrates wide yet
targeted reading.
· Any errors in spelling, referencing, and grammatical
construction that remain after careful proofreading and/or
editing do not detract from the quality of the submission.
High Distinction (HD 80-100%) –
To be awarded an HD for this assignment students must meet all
the requirements of the distinction standard, outlined above, and
then they must go beyond that.
· Key characteristics of the digital age are identified and
challenges for teaching and learning are discussed through the
use of relevant, concrete and astute examples.
· The mind map demonstrates keen conceptual understanding
and the thoughtful categorisation of ideas.
· The ways the technologies are used demonstrates clear
evidence of critical thinking and problem solving, effective
communication, and creativity. They go beyond a demonstration
of familiarity, to demonstrate fluency.
· Precise and engaging language, appropriate for the audience
and purpose, has been used throughout each piece.
· Relevant and current literature has informed each response,
which shows evidence of extensive reading and in-depth
knowledge and understanding of the ideas presented.
· All aspects of the assessment task have been addressed
explicitly, showing attention to detail and care for the work
submitted. There are few errors in referencing, spelling,
grammar, syntax, or punctuation in the written and spoken texts.
