5. Research Topics with Explanation
The first research topic is “should minors who commit violent
crimes be tried as adults?” I chose this topic because nowadays
the rate of crimes in the society has been sky rocketing and
statistics indicate that the majority who does the heinous acts
are the minors (Pakes, 2010). I believe that digging into the
background of these kind of children will give a rationale of
what triggers them to do such accts. The teens should not be
tried as adults because they are minors who commits adult
crimes. They commit such acts due to factors like poor
parenthood, due to mental disabilities, drug abuse and learning
difficulties among other factors. They should not be condemned
as adults rather be given short sentences, new identities and a
second chance to live happily with families (Goldson, 2012).
The second research topic is “Should child welfare regulations
be changed?” I chose this research topic because the welfare of
children are very critical state responsibilities which includes
fundamental issues of a child like guarding children from abuse
and neglect, and making sure that children have stable, safe, and
enduring living conditions (Delap, 2015). The child welfare
regulations should be modified because child abuse and
mistreatment are complex difficulties imbedded in unhealthy
relationships and backgrounds. Stopping child abuse and
desertion involves an inclusive approach that impacts all levels
of the social environment (including the social culture), public
involvement, affairs among families and neighbors, and
6. personal conducts (Williams, 2015). Effective prevention plans
emphasis on modifying strategies, practices, and social customs
to make a safe, conducive, stable, fostering relationships and
environments.
Finally I have also chosen a topic that ‘should DUI (driving
under the influence) laws be changed’? The key reason behind
choosing this research topic is that I have been a casualty of a
situation before in which the driver broke the driving laws and I
faced a lot of woes. Individually, I believe that driving under
the influence laws have to be stern for persons as they carry
fatal consequences (Rowling, 2008). Another reason is that this
topic is getting bigger publicity in the society and even though
the consequences for driving under the influence are fairly
harsh, however on the other hand they are not sufficiently
efficient. There should be sticker laws or driving under
influence in order to lower occurrence of fatal accidents and
repeated offending (Brisban,2014). For instance, measures that
can be strengthened is enlarge penalties for such offences,
impose alcohol interlocks and upsurge severity of prison
verdicts.
