[ FALL, 2015 ] ASSIGNMENT
PROGRAM BCA (Revised Fall 2012)
SEMESTER 5
SUBJECT CODE & NAME BCA5042– Graphics and Multimedia
CREDITS 4
BK ID B1552
MARKS 60
Note: Answer all questions. Kindly note that answers for 10 marks questions should be
approximately of 400 words. Each question is followed by evaluation scheme.
Question. 1. What is 3D display devices? Briefly explain the types of 3D displaydevices.
Answer:Nowadaysitishard to hide from three-dimensional (3D) display technology. 3D is is being
pushed by display and film makers. Mainstream TV, PC monitor, smartphone and games console
makershave beenjumpingonthe 3D bandwagonwiththe home to make money with it. In order to
see thingsin3D eacheye mustsee a slightlydifferentpicture. This is done in the real world by your
eyes being spaced apart so each eye has its own
Question. 2. Briefly explain line drawing algorithm with an example.
Answer:A line drawing algorithm is a graphical algorithm for approximating a line segment on
discrete graphical media.Ondiscrete media,suchaspixel-based displays and printers, line drawing
requiressuchanapproximation(innontrivial cases). Basic algorithms rasterize lines in one color. A
better representation with multiple color gradations requires an advanced process, anti-aliasing.
On continuous media, by contrast, no algorithm is necessary to draw a line. For example,
oscilloscopes use natural phenomena to draw lines and curves.
Question. 3. Explain flood fill algorithm.
Answer:Floodfill, alsocalledseedfill, isanalgorithmthatdeterminesthe area connected to a given
node in a multi-dimensional array. It is used in the "bucket" fill tool of paint programs to fill
connected,similarly-coloredareaswithadifferentcolor,andin gamessuchas Go and Minesweeper
2. for determining which pieces are cleared. When applied on an image to fill a particular bounded
area with color, it is also known as boundary fill.
Question. 4.Write a note on:
a) Control points
Answer:A control point(CP,alsocontrol and checkpoint) isamarked waypoint used in orienteering
and related sports such as rogaining and adventure racing. It is located in the competition area;
marked both on an orienteering map and in the terrain; and described on a control description
sheet. The control point must be identifiable on the map and on the ground. A control point has
three components: a high visibility item, known as a flag or kite; an identifier, known as a control
code;and a recordingmechanismforcontestantstorecordproof that theyvisitedthe control point.
The control
b) Knot Vector
Answer:Once a setof parametersisobtained,we cangenerate a knot vector. Suppose we have n+1
parameterst0, t1, ...,tn and degree p. For a B-spline curve of degree p, we need m+1 knots, where
m=n+p+1. If the curve is clamped, these knots are u0 = u1 = .... = up = 0, up+1, ..., um-p-1, um-p =
um-p+1 = ... = um = 1. More precisely, the first p+1 and last p+1 knots are 0's and 1's, respectively.
For the remaining n-p knots, they can be uniformly spaced or chosen properly to achieve some
desired conditions.
Question. 5. What is multimedia? Explain briefly the uses of multimedia.
Answer:Multimedia refers to content that uses a combination of different content forms. This
contrasts with media that use only rudimentary computer displays such as text-only or traditional
formsof printedorhand-producedmaterial.Multimediaincludes a combination of text, audio, still
images, animation, video, or interactive content forms. Multimedia can be recorded and played,
displayed, dynamic, interactedwithoraccessedbyinformation content processing devices, such as
computerizedandelectronicdevices,butcanalso be part of a live performance.Multimediadevices
are electronic media devices used to store and experience multimedia content. Multimedia is
distinguishedfrommixedmediainfine art; by including audio, for example, it has a broader scope.
The term "rich media"
Question. 6. Explain the following
(a) Full animation
3. Answer:Full animation is animation that is high quality and traditionally animated, regularly using
detailed drawings and plausible movement1. In technical terms, full animation is classified as
animationwhichhaskeyframes, orunique drawings, for at least every other frame of footage. Full
animation refers to the process of producing high-quality traditionally animated films, which
regularly use detailed drawings and plausible movement it's all about having every drawing of an
animation be distinctly
(b) Limited animation
Answer:Limited animation is a process of making animated cartoons that does not redraw entire
framesbutvariablyreusescommonpartsbetweenframes.One of itsmajorcharacteristicsisstylized
designinall formsandshapes, whichinthe earlydayswas referred to as modern design. The short-
subject and feature-
(c) Rotoscoping
Answer:Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which animators trace over footage, frame by
frame, for use in live-action and animated films. Originally, recorded live-action film images were
projected onto a frosted glass panel and re-drawn by an animator. This projection equipment is
called a rotoscope. Although this
