4. HALF DAY POST-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
Wednesday 6th February 2019,
Crowne Plaza St. Peterâs Hotel Spa, Rome, Italy
9:00am-12:30pm
Workshop leader:
Lieutenant General (Retâd) Antonio Li Gobbi, Former Director of
Operations, NATO HQ International Military Staff
Overview of the Workshop:
As the battlefield becomes increasingly asymmetric, and joint
operationscombiningmultiplemilitaryforcesbecomecommonplace,
the need for effective command and control structures are more
crucial than ever before. Network centric warfare is synonymous with
C4I, as militaries seek to leverage robust information sharing systems
to enhance connectivity of military assets and achieve information
and decision-superiority. Nowhere is this more evident than in joint
operations in complex environments, where the need for real time
communications and streamlined command and control can make
the difference between mission success and failure.
Benefits of Attending
This workshop will seek to explore C4I in challenging and asymmetric
environments and examine strategies to achieve information
superiority through advanced network enabled capabilities.
Drawing on the expertise of the vastly experienced workshop leader,
the workshop will examine real case studies and the lessons learned
in complex joint operations to establish techniques and strategies
for successful network -enabled C4I. The workshop will provide
the opportunity to learn and discuss the topic in a more intimate
environment, conducive for learning and gaining invaluable insight
into the world of network-enabled command and control.
About the Workshop Chairman:
Antonio Li Gobbi (Milan, 1954) retired in 2015 from active duty in the
Italian Army. During his military career, Antonio Li Gobbi gathered a
wide experience in Crisis Response Operations, having served in the
field with UN in Syria and Israel and within NATO-led operations in
Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan, where he was ISAF Deputy Chief of
Staff Operations in 2005-06.
The most relevant military appointments held during his career were:
⢠At NATO level: Director of Operations, NATO HQ International
Military Staff in Brussels (2007/2010).
⢠At national level: Commander of the Italian Army Engineers
Corps (2010/2014). As such, he was also responsible to the Chief
of Defence for upgrading Force Protection for Italian Forces in
Afghanistan and for national Counter IED (improvised explosive
devices) policies.
Today Li Gobbi contributes as an analyst on international and military
affairsâ issues to âAnalisi Difesaâ (online magazine specialized on
international and defence policy issues),
He also cooperates with the NATO Defence College and lectures on
NATO related issues at the San Bonaventura University in Rome.
