1. Unit 57: Photography and
Photographic Practice
Research of other
photographers work
2. Photographer: Adam
Burton
Adam Burton is one of the best
landscape photographers in the UK, he
is also the author of five books. Since
2008 he has been a full time
professional landscape photographer.
He began teaching himself photography
in 2001 by reading magazines and
taking photos in the New Forest.
4. Choose an image…. Describe it
• Taken in Leona, Argentina, in what
looks like a rocky desert of some sort.
• Taken anytime from 2008, very
modern looking image in high quality.
• It is in a desert of some sort but it looks
like there’s either a river or a road in
the distance, we can see a few
clouds in the sky but it’s mainly blue
sky.
• He has purposely angled the camera
to have the rocks in the left hand side
of the photo and the rest of it is all just
desert.
5. Composition
• You can see he’s decided to get the sky in the photo
and he’s positioned the camera correctly so the rocks
are in the left of the photo and it’s all open in the rest
of the photo. I think if he was to move the camera
further right it would just be desert and maybe more
hills, and if he moved it further left it would be more of
the same, I think he has put the rocks in to make it
look a bit less bland.
6. Techniques used
• It doesn’t look like
he has used any
techniques in this
particular photo
but it’s hard to see
any techniques in
his other photos as
well.
7. Strengths & Weaknesses
I like the style he uses in his photos and how he captures light at dawn
or dusk when it is at its best, I also like the way he sets up his photos to
include as much as possible in them. I think he is quite influential
because he doesn’t rely on computer enhancement to make his
photos look their best.
