SMARCOS Personal Diabetes Coaching
The Personal Diabetes Coaching system is a SMARCOS project pilot within the area of Personal
Attentive Systems and explores how diabetics can be coached in order to achieve a healthy lifestyle,
through appropriate use of technology.
Diabetes Type 2 patients are coached on the topics of medicine adherence, physical activity and
glucose values.
By collecting contextual data, the diabetic users’ daily behavior is analyzed. The activity monitor collects
physical activity data and the electronic pill dispenser collects medication adherence data.
The users receive feedback on their lifestyle through various devices in their daily environment, such
as their TV, in-car system, smartphone, digital photo frame, laptop, refrigerator display, etc.
An embedded conversational agent serves as the users’ virtual coach.
