Hope Avery enjoyed her service project, financial courses, and learning discussion assignments the most. She found the service project helped with her social anxiety. The financial courses taught her about debt and credit cards. The learning discussion helped her understand that people learn at different paces. Her favorite journals were the self-assessment, critic and inner defender, and re-taking self-assessment journals. She enjoyed seeing her self-belief and scores improve. Her favorite module was the first one as it helped her realize she needed to think more positively and understand how her brain works.
2. Top 3 Favorite Assignments
• 1. Service Project
• I loved this assignment! Shadowing and helping patients turned out to be
really fun for me. It also brought me closer to the people in my town and
helped with my social anxiety.
• 2. Financial Avenue Courses
• I enjoyed this assignment more than I thought I would. I learned a lot that I did
not know about having debt and buying credit cards. I also learned how to
make my money stretch!
• 3. How People Learn Discussion
• I felt that this assignment was especially important. Everyone learns at
their own pace. It is good for everyone to understand this concept and to
keep this in mind when in a classroom/work setting.
3. Top 3 Favorite Journals
• 1. Self Assessment
• It was very fun to do this at first. However, when I was done, it was sad to see
how little I believed in myself. I am glad that I realized this, and have been
taking steps to ensure positivity.
• 2. Critic and Inner Defender
• I really enjoyed this journal! It was fun/funny to argue with myself for an
assignment. I felt pretty good about myself afterwards.
• 3. Re-Taking Self Assessment
• I was very pleased to know that most of my previous scores had
risen. It was nice to see that I had actually done what I said I would
do; IMPROVE! I am becoming a more positive person and I am
thankful for that.
4. Favorite Module
• My favorite module was the first one. Why? It
was not only because I saw that I needed to
make a positive change in my life and how I
think, but also the newness of a class that I
had no idea about was fun for me. I felt like I
really got to know my brain in module one.
5. Three Lessons to Carry On..
• 1. Everyone learns at their own pace.
• 2. Memorizing key words for an exam will not
help me in the future. I need to try my best to
relate to/understand the material.
• 3. It is okay to take brain breaks when
studying.
6. Before and After
I am actually surprised I grew in this category. At the beginning of
the semester I realized I did kind of blame one of my professors for
being boring, therefore making it harder for me to learn. Now, I have
found that I actually just didn’t know how to study for his tests.
7. My Life Be like… (ooh ahh)
• My number one life goal is to get accepted
into dental hygiene program in 2018. I see
myself doing very well, working hard, and
enjoying every moment for the next two
years. I would graduate, start work
immediately, and eventually save up to
become a home owner. My family would be so
proud and would be with me every step of the
way.
8. • After I had enough money saved up, I would
move from Bonham to somewhere like Austin
(but more affordable) and buy a nice house
and own nice things. I would have a spouse
and kids and a lot of room to roam and have
fun with my family. And when it is all said and
my goals have become a reality, I would be
truly happy.
