Zero Mothers Die is a multistakeholder partnership project to save the lives of pregnant women and new mothers through the systematic use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and mobile health. Ghana, one of the UNAIDS Global Plan target countries, has been chosen in consultation with the partners as the first implementation country for Zero Mothers Die.
Mobile phones have become nearly ubiquitous globally, with about three-quarters of humanity now owning a mobile phone. Mobile technologies are increasingly being used to advance human development through applications in various sectors such as agriculture, health, financial services, employment, and government. The report analyzes the growth of mobile services and applications and explores how the "app economy" is transforming lives in both developed and developing countries. It examines key ecosystem-based applications in sectors like agriculture, health, financial services, employment, and government that are helping to maximize the development impact of mobile technologies.

Sex in the pocket: Implementation of a mobile phone application in HIV Vaccine trials. The use of technology-based HIV programs, such as via the internet and mobile phone messaging, has overcome some of the individual and intervention-level barriers, such as discomfort with topics. Moreover, content can be easily tailored and updated to reflect current trends and changes in health information. The Perinatal HIV Research Unit (PHRU) is the first research site in South Africa that tested the use of a mobile phone messaging platform to collect sexual risk information within the context of HIV vaccine trials amongst 50 high-risk women aged 18-25 years, who were provided with study mobile phones for three month to transmit the daily data for the duration of their participation. The study staff perceptions on women's challenges and the feasibility of self-administered sexual risk data collection via a mobile phone will be presented.
eHealth/mHealth: Building Fundamentals in South Africa through the SIFSA Asso...MEASURE Evaluation
MEval-SIFSA has contributed to strengthening eHealth and mHealth in South Africa in several key ways:
1) It helped develop a facility coding system and supported implementation of the national ePHC project to digitize patient records.
2) MEval-SIFSA provided input on South Africa's mHealth strategy and is now assisting with implementation, such as creating an mHealth project repository.
3) Other efforts include linking helpdesk systems, developing technical briefs, and supporting initiatives that can help achieve health goals. The overall aim is to build capacity and help the country implement its eHealth strategy through standards, coordination, and using technology to improve health services and outcomes.
This document discusses healthcare challenges in Ghana and India and potential eHealth solutions. In Ghana, there is a focus on increasing healthcare access but physical infrastructure, medical personnel, and unequal rural/urban access remain problems. In India, high private spending, low insurance coverage, and unequal rural/urban access are issues. Potential eHealth solutions discussed include mobile health programs for communication, disease surveillance, and mother/child tracking in Ghana as well as a tele-radiology program and sickle cell screening in India. The document advocates for integrated, patient-centric care delivered across institutional and telehealth solutions to help bridge global healthcare access divides.
This document summarizes a presentation about implementing eHealth initiatives across sub-Saharan Africa as part of the Millennium Villages Project (MVP). It provides an overview of MVP's scope across multiple African countries, describes the MVG-Net system used to connect rural health clinics via mobile phones and applications, and outlines key lessons learned regarding open source platforms, expandable data models, translation, and user feedback. Finally, it discusses sustainability, scale-up initiatives, and the relevance of MVP's experiences to other settings like Egypt.
India is an emerging ‘mobile’ country. The country has the second-largest mobile phone user in the world with nearly 900 million subscriptions. This white paper presents the key areas of emphasis in the growing mobile for development space in India.

Zero Mothers Die is a global partnership initiative saving the lives of pregnant women and their newborns through the systematic use of ICTs and mobile technologies to improve maternal, newborn and child health.
This document outlines a project called Zero Mothers Die that aims to reduce maternal and child mortality in developing countries through the use of mobile phones and ICT. It notes that hundreds of thousands of women and children still die each year from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. The project will provide pregnant women in Ghana with mobile phones, airtime, and health information messages to connect them to local healthcare workers. It will also provide tablets to health workers with training materials to improve care. The goals are to empower women with information, increase access to healthcare, and build local health capacity using mobile technology. Partnerships are sought to help implement and sustain the initiative.

Elements Necessary for the Successful Scale Up of Mobile Health in Developing...Jeannine Lemaire
Advanced Development for Africa commissioned this report as the first in a series of special reports on Scaling Up Mobile Health to assess various implementations of mHealth programs in developing country contexts that were either scaled up or in the process of achieving this. The objective was to identify the important elements necessary for achieving scale. This report profiled select mHealth programs that had been piloted and were in the scale up phase, having proven enough success that they should be considered as potential models for other initiatives. Using the identified success factors and interviews with experts in the field of mHealth, the report generated a set of best practices and specific programmatic, operational, policy and global strategy recommendations to create an enabling environment for mHealth and support organizations in achieving scale. Interviewed experts included: Patricia Mechael, Executive Director of the mHealth Alliance; David Aylward, Senior Advisor on Global Health and Technology at Ashoka; Brooke Partridge, CEO of Vital Wave Consulting; Anne-Roos Weil, Co-Fonder and Managing Director of Pesinet; and Getachew Sahlu, eHealth Expert and Program Manager at the WHO. The primary goal of ADA’s first report is to provide recommendations and best practices that will allow mHealth initiatives to better plan their own scale up beyond successful pilot phases.

5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT or Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that serves a range of roles in the human body. It is sometimes referred to as the happy chemical since it promotes overall well-being and happiness.
It is mostly found in the brain, intestines, and blood platelets.
5-HT is utilised to transport messages between nerve cells, is known to be involved in smooth muscle contraction, and adds to overall well-being and pleasure, among other benefits. 5-HT regulates the body's sleep-wake cycles and internal clock by acting as a precursor to melatonin.
It is hypothesised to regulate hunger, emotions, motor, cognitive, and autonomic processes.

We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. This knowledge that has given us yoga and Ayurveda, was known as Veda, hence the name Vedic. And though there are some written records, the practice has been passed down verbally from generation to generation.
