Zawisza Czarny z Garbowa, also known as The Black Knight, was a 15th century Polish knight who served King Władysław II of Poland and King Sigismund of Hungary and Bohemia. He fought in the Battle of Grunwald against the Teutonic Order in 1410 and helped negotiate the Treaty of Lubawa between Poland and Hungary afterwards. After his death fighting the Turks in 1428, he became a popular Polish folk hero renowned for his bravery, reliability, and loyalty.
