South Africa Demographic and Health Survey 2016: Key Indicators Report, 2016Statistics South Africa
The South African Demographic and Health Survey is a sample survey that was conducted by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) and the South African Medical Research Council on behalf of the National Department of Health. The survey collected data from sampled households in the country between June and November 2016, with variables measuring health, fertility, nutrition and family planning, among others. The results of the survey will be used to measure the health status of South Africans as well as the coverage and quality of selected health programmes. The survey will also provide estimates on child and maternal mortality, fertility rates, and the prevalence of conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, among others.

Zambia’s Results-Based Financing pilot project began in April 2012 in 11 rural districts, representing nine provinces out of a total of ten, 204 health facilities, and a total catchment population of nearly 1.7 million. The Zambian RBF model is one of the very few examples of “contracting in” with a view to build on and strengthen the existing public health system. The program was designed to help address various health system challenges including an insufficient and poorly motivated human-resource base; an erratic supply of essential medicines and medical supplies; limited autonomy in decision-making at decentralized levels of the health system; weak monitoring and evaluation systems; and poor quality of service delivery.
This presentation focuses on the results of the impact evaluation and provide an overview of some of the key messages and policy implications of the work.
The 2014 Serbia Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) and 2014 Serbia Roma Settlements Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) were carried out in 2014 by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia as part of the global MICS programme. Technical as well as financial
support was provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Belgrade, 3 July 2014 – The results of the 2014 Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS 5) show little progress for children and women in Serbia compared to the previous data from 2010, and widening equity gaps between the general population and particularly vulnerable groups.

POSHAN District Nutrition Profiles (DNPs) draw on diverse sources of data to compile a set of indicators on the state of nutrition and its cross-sectoral determinants. The profiles are intended to be conversation-starters at the district level and to enable discussions about why undernutrition levels are high, and which factors, at multiple levels, might need to be addressed to improve nutrition.
PLEASE NOTE that POSHAN is regularly tracking data sources as they are released and updating the profiles accordingly.

The USAID-funded Targeted States High Impact Project (TSHIP) is implementing high-impact, cost-effective, integrated interventions to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes in Nigeria's northern Bauchi and Sokoto States. This slideshow, presented at the Northeast Implementing Partners' Meeting on January 15, 2015, reviews program activities and results.
Of primary importance in healthcare innovation, intended to support the maternal healthcare of Indigenous Australian women, is cultural appropriateness; specifically, the cultural notion of ‘women’s business’. In traditional Indigenous Australian culture, it is senior women who teach young women about maternal healthcare and it is considered offensive for anyone other than a senior woman to instruct an Indigenous Australian women on such matters. This discussion will consider the challenges in developing a maternal healthcare app that aims to satisfy both the culturally sensitive requirements in addition to the medical requirements.

Considerations in Last Mile Delivery in Access to Medicines
Out of the box thinking and partnership – the ColaLife Story.
This presentation was given at the 'Access to Medicines' conference hosted by Takeda in Geneva on 25-May-17. It describes how access to diarrhoea treatment was transformed in Zambia.
Diarrhoea is the second biggest infectious killer of under 5 children and yet we know how to treat diarrhoea and the medicine is simple, safe and cheap. The problem is that 99% of diarrhoea cases do not receive the recommended treatment: ORS and Zinc. The last remaining barrier is access.

2. The 2013-14 Zambia Demographic and Health Survey was implemented by the Central
Statistical Office (CSO) in partnership with the Ministry of Health as well as the University
Teaching Hospital (UTH) – Virology Laboratory, the Tropical Disease Research Center (TDRC)
and the Department of Population Studies at the University of Zambia (UNZA). The
Government through the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance provided funding
for the survey. ICF International provided technical assistance as well as funding to the
project through The DHS Program, a USAID-funded project providing support and technical
assistance in the implementation of population and health surveys in countries worldwide.
Additional funding for the ZDHS was provided by the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United
Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
3. Objectives
The primary objective of the 2013-14 ZDHS was to provide
up-to-date information on fertility levels, fertility
preferences, awareness and use of family planning
methods, child feeding practices, nutritional status of
women and children, awareness and attitudes regarding
HIV and AIDS, sexual behavior and condom use, maternal
and child health, adult and childhood mortality, and
domestic violence. This information is intended to assist
policymakers and programme managers in evaluating and
designing programmes and strategies for improving health
and family planning services in the country.
