individual, with whom that individual would expect to
interact at intervals to support a given set of activities.
ONLINE REVIEWS
A review site is a website on which reviews can be posted about
people, businesses, products, or services.
Customers are increasingly looking online for local services, doctors,
dentists, hairdressers
estate agents, car garages; the list goes on… Every business, whether
it sells over the Internet,
on the high street, or out of town, is a multi-national or a sole
trader, needs an online presence.
SO The most effective way to win new business and earn customer
trust is through online reviews.
SOCIAL PUBLISHING
Social publishing is taking the book and making it much easier to
have a conversation with the book and its writer, and have
conversations around the book and its writer.”
Book Marking Sites
As In the early days of the Internet content discovery online was a difficult task but now some
book marking sites are available to us which helps us.
These are web services like Stumble Upon, Pinterest, and Flipboard, where users collect content
from elsewhere on the Internet, and save it to their account on the platform. This content can
be private or public, and shared with other users.
Media Sharing network
Media sharing network is used for sharing of images and videos.
Facebook and Twitter have amazing video and image-sharing capabilities; The posts are shared
on these channels contain text.
however, images are the main focus—users have to choose, upload and edit image files so
media sharing files help us in this purpose.
E-Commerce
Social media have ability to view and purchase desired goods with a click of a button.
Interest-Based Networks
One of the most wonderful opportunities presented by social media is the ability to find people
with common interests. In addition to Facebook and LinkedIn Groups and Google communities,
there are whole networks dedicated to exploration of interest—such as for music lovers, and
Goodreads for authors and readers.
Impacts of Social Media
There are different impacts of social media on our lives.
They are both positive and negative .As our lives are now
totally linked with media so it affect on us.
Positive Affect
Friends:
◦ We can make many
friends.
Empathy
Each of us spends a little too long talking about ourselves on
social networking sites. Which is perfectly natural. We’re
sharing our lives – the ups and downs, the twists and turn
They will listen to what you have to say, and help you deal with
any problems you may be facing.
The point is that by all of us sharing our experiences, both good
and bad, on social networking sites which may be good for us
In touch with world
It isn’t just your inner circle of close friends and even closer
family members that social networking sites allow you to
communicate with easily and effectively, either. They open the
world up to you, making it a smaller place than it has ever been
before.
Building Relationship
There is no doubting that social networking sites can lead to the breaking
up of relationships. But there is another side to the tale, which is that
people are moving onto other, perhaps better, relationships at the same
time. Social networks can put you in touch with those you have lots in
common with, and that common ground is often the starting point for
long-lasting relationships.
NEGATIVE AFFECTS
A False Sense of Connection
social media sites can make it more difficult for us to distinguish between the meaningful
relationships we foster in the real world, and the numerous casual relationships formed through
social media. By focusing so much of our time and psychic energy on these less meaningful
relationships, our most important connections, he fears, will weaken.
Cyber Bullying
If you are not careful, unscrupulous people can target you for cyber bullying on social sites.
School children, young girls, and women can fall prey to online attacks which can create tension
and distress. If you are a victim of cyber bullying, do not take it lying down, but try to take
appropriate legal action against the attacker.
Impact on Productivity
Many companies have blocked social networks on their office Internet as addicted employees
can distract themselves on such sites, instead of focusing on work. In fact, studies show that
British companies have lost billions of dollars per year in productivity because of social media
addiction among employees.
Impact on Privacy
If you are not careful, what you post on the Net can come back to haunt you. Revealing personal
information on social sites can make users vulnerable to crimes like identity theft, stalking, etc.
Many companies perform a background check on the Internet before hiring an employee. If a
prospective employee has posted something embarrassing on social media, it can drastically
affect their chances of getting the job. The same holds true for our relationships too, as our
loved ones and friends may get to know if we post something undesirable on social networks.
Conclusion
Social media has its advantages and drawbacks as revealed in this article. It is up to each user to
use social sites wisely to enhance their professional and social life, and exercise caution to ensure
they do not fall victim to online dangers.
