Creating a Continuous,
Improving, Feedback Loop
One area, as a company, that we seek to continuously improve upon is our
ability to give and receive feedback.
We believe we will learn faster and be better if we can make giving and
receiving feedback less stressful and a more normal part of work life.
Feedback needs to be  a continuous part of how we communicate and
work with one another versus an occasional formal exercise.

better?” and “What feedback have I not yet shared?”
• If you are providing feedback for others, first confirm that
the individual is open to receiving feedback at that time,
and present in a respectful and professional manner.

one-on-one setting rather than in front of others.

• We try to create the sense of ownership, responsibility and initiative so that this
behavior comes naturally.  
• Our goal is to inspire people to take action on their own, be self-starters, and be
rewarded for their action with trust and support.  
• We trust our teams to do what they think is best for Yummly — giving them lots of
freedom, power, and information in support of their decisions.
• This gives our high performing dream team the ability to push boundaries, feel

• There are a few important exceptions to employee freedom and limited process. We are
strict about ethical topics, personal HR matters, safety, and some financial issues.
• In general, freedom and rapid recovery is better than trying to prevent error.
• Our big threat over time is lack of innovation, so we should be relatively error tolerant and
take action. Rapid recovery is possible if people have great judgment.
We are dedicated to constantly increasing employee freedom so that
