This document discusses the importance of backups for websites and provides options for backing up a WordPress site. It notes that websites are only as safe as the last backup and outlines reasons why backups are needed, including hackers, malware, user errors, and hosting issues. The document then summarizes several plugin options for automated backups in WordPress, including Backup Buddy, UpdraftPlus, and Duplicator. It also reviews manual backup methods and relying on hosting companies or paid backup services. It emphasizes that backups should always be tested to ensure they are reliable.

Presentation to YYC Bloggers Meetup on Plugins and Securing WordPress.
Geared to the beginner/average user. A presentation and discussion about the basic steps to better manage your WordPress site/blog.
What is WordPress? WordPress is an online, open source website creation tool written in PHP. But in non-geek speak, it’s probably the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system (or CMS) in existence today.
When moving to the WordPress platform, the hosting decision is the most critical step. Where you host your site sets the stage for your web site's design and development. It also determines how much direct control you have over your site's security, operations, and backups. This presentation compares and contrasts "manage" WP hosting with "self-hosted" WP hosting.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

13. Manual
Backup
Database Backup
Database is where all of the
content and settings for your
site are stored.
In CPanel, go to
PHPMyAdmin, choose the
correct database, then select
Export. In most cases the
default Export settings will be
sufficient.
Be extremely careful that
you don’t select anything
that says Drop or Empty.
13
Files Backup
Files in your WordPress site
include the WordPress Core
files, Themes, Plugins, and any
media files that have been
uploaded to your site.
In Cpanel, go to File Manager
and navigate to the root folder
for your website. Select all of
the files in the root folder for
your site (unless you have other
sites in subfolders) and click
Compress button to create a zip
file containing all of the files for
your site.
14. Rely on
Hosting
company
Don’t
WordPress Managed Hosting companies seem
to handle this a little better than standard
companies but there are still limitations, such
as size, frequency, or how long they are kept.
I always prefer to have an independent backup
available.
14
15. Service/
Subscription
Services like VaultPress (through Jetpack Professional) or
website maintenance services like ManageWP can
automatically make backups and will hold on to them for
you for extended time.
Or, find a service provider to help you with your updates
and other site maintenance.
15
16. “
Last Thought:
Always test your backup!
Test in a local environment or on
a staging site. Without testing,
there’s no way to know if your
backup is reliable or not.
16
18. Thank you very much
for your time
