10 things you are doing wrong in JoomlaAshwin Date
1. File paths in Joomla templates and components should use forward slashes instead of DS to separate directories for readability and compatibility across operating systems.
2. PHP files should not include a closing PHP tag at the end to avoid corrupting JSON or HTTP headers.
3. Components and templates should be tested with debug and SEF URLs turned on to avoid issues when these settings are enabled.
WordCamp Birmingham 2015 - Theme building tricks of the tradeJonny Allbut
I’ve been building WordPress themes since 2005 and have developed a-lot of useful little tricks along the way. I’ll be sharing a handful of my best techniques to help you work with WordPress and build themes like a pro!
This document discusses various web development tools for debugging and inspecting code, including FireBug, Opera Dragonfly, IE Developer Tools, and Webkit Developer Tools. It also provides tips on using breakpoints to debug JavaScript code and references browser-specific developer tools guides. Several real-world web applications are listed as examples of AJAX and HTML5 implementations. HTML Tidy is introduced as a tool for cleaning up and fixing errors in HTML markup.

HTML5 is hot right now and a lot is being said about it. It is time to take a look at what it means to apply it on the web and see how things work out. Turns out we still have a lot to fix and we need your help.
The Rich Standard: Getting Familiar with HTML5Todd Anglin
HTML 5 may take some time to find full support in all major browsers, but you may be surprised to discover how many of HTML 5’s features are available today! HTML 5 is the next generation standard for web applications, and it promises to give plug-in based RIAs a serious challenge. In this demo heavy session, you’ll see HTML 5 in action and learn what you can do with today’s browser support for the new standard. If you’re building rich web applications and you’ve never touched HTML 5, this session is a must see.
HTML5 is an umbrella term for new HTML elements and JavaScript APIs that provide richer semantics and interactions on the web. Some key features of HTML5 include new elements like <video>, <audio>, and <canvas>, offline application caching, local storage, and geolocation. HTML5 aims to make the web more app-like without plugins by standardizing media playback, graphics, offline support, and other capabilities in a way that works across browsers. The specification is developed through the joint efforts of browser vendors to provide a common set of features that work consistently on different browsers without needing plugins.
HTML5 is an umbrella term for new elements, JavaScript APIs, and other technologies that help make the web more app-like. It includes new semantic elements like <article>, <header>, and <footer>, built-in form validation, the <video> and <canvas> elements for embedded media, and an API for scripting media with JavaScript. While not replacing HTML 4, HTML5 aims to improve support for web applications by standardizing elements like forms that were previously done with third-party plugins. The <canvas> element allows drawing via JavaScript, mixing with external graphics, and accessing pixel data to enable new visual effects.

1) HTML5 provides new semantic elements, forms, and multimedia capabilities without plugins, but browser support is still evolving.
2) Key HTML5 features include new elements <header>, <footer>, <video>, <audio>, improved forms, and the <canvas> element for scriptable drawing.
3) While HTML5 aims to standardize current browser behaviors, some older browsers still require extra code for full support of new features. Feature detection and polyfills can help provide support across browsers.
The document discusses HTML5 and its APIs. It provides an overview of several HTML5 APIs including the geolocation API, web storage API, web workers API, and WebSocket API. It also discusses how these new HTML5 features allow for more advanced web applications compared to older technologies like Flash. Finally, it mentions some libraries and tools for testing HTML5 browser support.
Bruce Lawson gave a presentation on HTML5 and why it was created. Some key points:
- HTML5 was created to better support web applications as existing technologies like HTML 4 were not adequately serving this area.
- It provides new semantic elements, rich forms, video/audio elements, and JavaScript APIs to build powerful web applications without Flash/Silverlight.
- It aims to balance backwards compatibility, new features, interoperability, and accessibility.
Brave new world of HTML5 - WebTech 2010 Milano 09.11.2010Patrick Lauke
HTML5 provides new semantic elements, forms, and multimedia capabilities without plugins. While support is still evolving, HTML5 can be used today with feature detection and polyfills for older browsers. Key features include <video>, <audio>, <canvas>, geolocation, and application cache APIs. HTML5 aims to unify browser support for emerging web standards, but support varies - it is best to use progressive enhancement and have fallback options. Overall HTML5 enhances the web platform, but may not completely replace other technologies like Flash in the near future.
With all the technical considerations of designing and shipping PHP-based software, it's easy to forget how every line of code you write can have a direct impact on your customers. Almost any code has the potential to shape the user experience and result in repeat custom or an over-subscribed helpdesk. Allow Drew McLellan to take you through the lessons learned when building Perch - a PHP content management system that banks heavily on providing a great user experience. Hear what has worked, what failed miserably, and how a goal of eliminating all support requests has driven the technical design of the product.

Plone Futures, Plone Conference 2016 Keynote by Eric SteeleT. Kim Nguyen
Eric will cover what's in store for Plone 5.1 and beyond, including the work that's been done on plone.server and Mosaic. He will describe the multiple paths of modernizing the stack that are currently underway. This would move us right into the thick of the modern era of web development - with multiple front end implementations communicating with a RESTful back end.
This document summarizes Plone's future plans and directions. Key points include:
- Plone 5.1 will focus on bug fixes and optimizations rather than new features.
- Future releases will improve customization options, documentation/training, and code quality.
- Plone is moving towards a "headless" model where the content management is separated from presentation, to better support mobile and other frontends.
- This will involve developing separate teams for the REST API, frontend interfaces, and backend services using newer technologies like asyncio and React.
- The goal is a cleaner, simplified and future-proofed Plone optimized for a headless/decoupled approach.
HTML5 kickstart - Brooklyn Beta workshop 21.10.2010Patrick Lauke
This document provides an overview of HTML5 and discusses whether it should be used today. It notes that while HTML5 is exciting, there are still interoperability issues that make it premature to deploy for most sites. The document then covers the history and development of HTML5, new semantic elements, forms, multimedia capabilities like video and canvas, geolocation, offline detection and more. It emphasizes using feature detection and providing fallback options to support older browsers.

- Options for data storage including web storage, web SQL, and IndexedDB
Creating WordPress Theme Faster, Smarter & Without Swearingmartinwolak
The document discusses best practices for making WordPress themes faster and more efficient. It explains that the simplest theme only needs two files: style.css and any image files. It is also possible to create a child theme with just a style.css file that inherits its parent theme's functionality. The document provides examples of how to structure theme files like functions.php, include parent stylesheets, and use template tags to reuse code and content across pages. It emphasizes keeping files lean and using technology to reduce code and improve performance.

Gamify it until you make it Improving Agile Development and Operations with ...Ben Linders
So many challenges, so little time. While we’re busy developing software and keeping it operational, we also need to sharpen the saw, but how? Gamification can be a way to look at how you’re doing and find out where to improve. It’s a great way to have everyone involved and get the best out of people.
In this presentation, Ben Linders will show how playing games with the DevOps coaching cards can help to explore your current development and deployment (DevOps) practices and decide as a team what to improve or experiment with.
The games that we play are based on an engagement model. Instead of imposing change, the games enable people to pull in ideas for change and apply those in a way that best suits their collective needs.
By playing games, you can learn from each other. Teams can use games, exercises, and coaching cards to discuss values, principles, and practices, and share their experiences and learnings.
Different game formats can be used to share experiences on DevOps principles and practices and explore how they can be applied effectively. This presentation provides an overview of playing formats and will inspire you to come up with your own formats.

1.) Introduction
Our Movement is not new; it is the same as it was for Freedom, Justice, and Equality since we were labeled as slaves. However, this movement at its core must entail economics.
2.) Historical Context
This is the same movement because none of the previous movements, such as boycotts, were ever completed. For some, maybe, but for the most part, it’s just a place to keep your stable until you’re ready to assimilate them into your system. The rest of the crabs are left in the world’s worst parts, begging for scraps.
3.) Economic Empowerment
Our Movement aims to show that it is indeed possible for the less fortunate to establish their economic system. Everyone else – Caucasian, Asian, Mexican, Israeli, Jews, etc. – has their systems, and they all set up and usurp money from the less fortunate. So, the less fortunate buy from every one of them, yet none of them buy from the less fortunate. Moreover, the less fortunate really don’t have anything to sell.
4.) Collaboration with Organizations
Our Movement will demonstrate how organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, National Urban League, Black Lives Matter, and others can assist in creating a much more indestructible Black Wall Street.
5.) Vision for the Future
Our Movement will not settle for less than those who came before us and stopped before the rights were equal. The economy, jobs, healthcare, education, housing, incarceration – everything is unfair, and what isn’t is rigged for the less fortunate to fail, as evidenced in society.
6.) Call to Action
Our movement has started and implemented everything needed for the advancement of the economic system. There are positions for only those who understand the importance of this movement, as failure to address it will continue the degradation of the people deemed less fortunate.
No, this isn’t Noah’s Ark, nor am I a Prophet. I’m just a man who wrote a couple of books, created a magnificent website: http://www.thearkproject.llc, and who truly hopes to try and initiate a truly sustainable economic system for deprived people. We may not all have the same beliefs, but if our methods are tried, tested, and proven, we can come together and help others. My website: http://www.thearkproject.llc is very informative and considerably controversial. Please check it out, and if you are afraid, leave immediately; it’s no place for cowards. The last Prophet said: “Whoever among you sees an evil action, then let him change it with his hand [by taking action]; if he cannot, then with his tongue [by speaking out]; and if he cannot, then, with his heart – and that is the weakest of faith.” [Sahih Muslim] If we all, or even some of us, did this, there would be significant change. We are able to witness it on small and grand scales, for example, from climate control to business partnerships. I encourage, invite, and challenge you all to support me by visiting my website.
