with a BS Education degree from the
University of the Philippines and Sargent
College in Boston.

Reyes-Aquino's most notedworks is her research on folk dances
and songs as a student assistant at the
University of the Philippines (UP). Pursuing her graduate studies,
she started her work in the 1921 traveling to remote barrios in
Central and Northern Luzon.
In the 1940's,she served as supervisor of physical education at
the Bureau of Education that distributed her work and adapted
the teaching of folk dancing as a medium of making young
Filipinos to be aware of their cultural heritage

previously unrecorded forms of
local celebration, ritual and

She was a Filipino choreographer, theater
director, teacher, author and researcher on

She was also the founding director of
the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk
Dance Company and was named National
Artist of the Philippines for dance in 1988.

1917
Filipino national artist in creative dance,
who was also known for breaking tradition

Her pen name was Cristina Luna and
she was known as Trailblazer, Mother of
Philippine Theater Dance and Dean of
Filipino Performing Arts Critics.
She proclaimed National Artist in
Dance on March 27 ,1976

Goquingco graduated Elementaryin 1929 at
Central Philippine University and as the top of her class as
valedictorian in Negros Occidental Provincial High School.
She moved to Manila and entered the
Philippine Women's University (PWU) where she took an ACS
course. She earned a diploma in education, majoring in English
Literature from St. Scholastica's College Manila and graduated
summa cum laude.

She created TheElements in 1940, the first ballet choreographed
by a Filipino to commissioned music.
She also created Sports during the same year, featuring
cheerleaders, a tennis match and a basketball game.
The first Philippine folkloric ballet, Trend: Return to the Native,
was choreographed by Goquingco in 1941.
After the Second World War, she organized the Philippine Ballet
and brought the famous Filipino novel, Noli Me Tángere, to life.
The Noli Dance Suite consisted of several dances.

Rosalia Merino while studying at Maryknoll College
where she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in History
