Description
Schwerin’s green power utility WEMAG has ordered Europe’s first battery park
for the commercial balancing of grid fluctuations. The battery park will hold up
to 5MWh of energy and will be commissioned in mid-2014. The battery power
plant will be connected to the 100-KV substation at Schwerin-Lankow, ensuring
its integration into the regional distribution grid as well as connection to the
next-level 380-KV high voltage grid.

Status
The battery park will be commissioned in mid-2014. With this project
WEMAG hope to level short-term fluctuations as well as regulate the
supply frequency on the transmission network level. This will aid the
safe integration of wind and solar power into the existing network.
Younicos has started working on the park from June this year.
