Gladiator is a Slovak rock band formed in 1989 by brothers Miko, Maroš and Dušan Hladký and their friend Giorgo Babulic. They originated from a village near Nitra, Slovakia. While they originally sang in English in the trash metal genre, their music video for "Profitable losses" was the first Slovak song played on MTV. They later switched to singing rock music in Slovak, beginning with their 1997 song "Slovakian." Gladiator has released several successful albums over their career.

Mária Čírová comes from a musical family in Slovakia and began singing at age four in her village church choir. She took piano lessons at a music school and conservatory. Since 2004, she has sung in the gospel band Trinity Group, which won an award for their album. Čírová also placed fourth in Slovakia's Eurovision song contest in 2009 with her song "Búrka." In 2008, she became a Coca-Cola pop star and won a top Slovak music award the following year. She has since started a family while continuing her musical career.
