Developing habits of hard work
Questions to ask yourself
• Am I engaged in the lesson? Am I focussed on my learning?
• Do my daily routines enable me to be the best I can be?
• How often am I revising?
• How do I revise? What works for me?
• What interventions can I attend?
• What do I need to change?
Year 10 and 11
children still require
support.
There is a range of
subjects and deadlines
to navigate.
Avoid ‘they should be
able to do it
themselves by now’
Supporting your child
How can you help your child
and prepare them to perform?
1. Being a role model
2. Help them set goals
3. Keep them active
4. Healthy eating
5. Time out
6. Sleep patterns
7. Unplugging
8. Belief
Each day you can
support your child to
make choices which can
impact how they perform
during KS4
Be a role model
Set a good example by
modelling the behaviour you
want your child to adopt…
• Planning for the week
• Eating healthily and well
• Keeping hydrated
• Leading an active life
• Staying calm
• Being organised
• Good sleep habits
Goal Setting
• Encourage them to keep their
goals planner visible – e.g.
printed and displayed on their
bedroom wall.
• Help focus them and talk to
them about their goals
regularly
• Give positive reinforcement
• Connect with them about
‘why’ and ‘what’ they want to
achieve
Keep Active 60
minutes
per day
• Encourage them to keep active on a daily
basis
• Carry out exercise in manageable chunks
e.g. 3 x 20 min sessions throughout the
day
• Plan to do active things together on a
weekend
• Go out for a walk together and get some
fresh air
• Plan weekly exercise sessions.
• After exercise your brain functions well, so
encourage a revision session afterwards
Healthy Eating
• Plan your family meals for the week
– breakfast, snacks, lunches and
evening meals
• Avoid high sugary and fatty foods or
drinks
• Encourage them to eat breakfast
everyday
• Hydration is key to brain functioning
so make sure your child carries a
bottle of water with them
5. Time Out
Encourage them to build in opportunities to take some
time out every week, away from study. For example:
• Going out for food
• Seeing friends
• Having a bath
• Listening to music
• Reading a book
• Doing a hobby
• Going shopping
• Going to the cinema
6.Sleep Patterns
• Young people need between 8 – 9
hours sleep per night
• Help your child create a relaxing
evening routine
• Make sure they don’t eat too late at
night
• Avoid giving them caffeine or
sugary drinks late at night
• Make sure they don’t work or revise
too late before going to bed
• Encourage them to switch off from
social media / technology at least
an hour before bedtime
7. Unplugging
 Encourage them to unplug from
technology everyday
 Help them switch off from technology at
least 30 mins- 1 hr before going to sleep
 Make sure they put their phone away, &
on silent, while they are concentrating on
tasks / revision / homework
 Help them learn to have the control to not
be obsessed with their phone by having
set time without it each week
8. Belief
• Give them positive reinforcement
• Boost their confidence daily
• Celebrate any successes and reward
them e.g. if they have achieved their
mini-goals
• Try not to set your expectations too high
• Show them how proud of them you are
• Highlight things to make them feel good
• Give them the belief in themselves to
help them achieve

Work Experience
10 – 21 July 2023
Parent/student talk
Three things!
• Lots of information, so …
1. Own placement – to guarantee choice
2. Deadline not a target – don’t leave own placement
until the last minute
3. Once any placement confirmed … contact
employer!
What is Work Experience?
• An unpaid opportunity for you to experience working life, whilst
you are still at school
• A chance for you to develop and practice new skills and become
more confident in your abilities
• A general experience of work, but can be vocational
• May help you refocus on education and form future career
choices
‘Own Placements’
• Placements could be anywhere in the UK
• Employers in some occupations prefer direct approach by
students
• Prepare how you dress and what you will say to the
employer…..why do you want to work there?
• Prepare an introductory email
• Placements should not be with a direct family member
• Check the journey route, times and the cost
• Be realistic about what work you will do in that job role
• The employer must have Employer
Liability Insurance (ELI)
• All forms must be fully completed
with all employer contact details
• Must pass a pre-placement check
carried out by an approved person
• Forms must be signed and returned
to the school by 17th March 2023
Webview
(Online Work Experience System)
Opens April 2023
www.bepgroup.net
First and Last name
School will issue PIN
When you have successfully logged in you will be directed to the
student home page where you will be able start the process of
making selections
There is a student guide to the system available under the ‘work
experience literature’ icon
Click on ‘search’ to
start looking for a
placement
Filter by job
category and
location
A list of ‘available’
jobs will appear
By clicking on ‘view’
you can see a full job
description for the
placement you are
thinking of selecting
Most jobs available
on the system will be
in administration,
retail and education
Parent/carer’s should
also view the
selections to check
location, hours tasks
and health and safety
You will need to make a minimum of 3 and up to 6 ‘live job’
selections, put them in choice order and be prepared to go to any
one of your choices.
Submit before 2nd June 2023
After allocation
• You may need to reselect, if not allocated a job
• You will receive a job description which includes a risk
assessment for the job and a parental consent form
• This needs to be signed by the student and your parent,
guardian or carer and returned to school
• All students will be issued with a log book to record their work
experience
Employer Contact
• BEP informs the employer of the placement details…employers
do sometimes forget!
• On receipt of the parental consent form and job description, you
must contact the employer immediately to confirm your
attendance.
• Some employers may have to withdraw from accepting the
placement, this can be at a late stage
• In many cases, no contact = no work experience!!!
During the Placement
• You will be expected to work business hours. This is anything
up to a maximum of 40 hours per week!
• You must contact your employer if you are ill, running late or
attending an appointment
• BEP Group will be advised if you do not attend placement and in
turn will contact the school to find out where you are
• If you have any issues during your placement you must contact
the school
Whilst on placement you will be treated as an employee
by the company, you can be dismissed!

Attitude
Conduct
Timekeeping
After the Placement
• On completion of Work Experience employers can leave
feedback in your log book, have a look!
• You may be asked to complete a school evaluation form to
feedback about your placement
• On successful completion of your placement, you will be issued
with a certificate
• Some successful placements can lead to employment or more!
