NAME: Search for the Science Wizard
Rationale
Science is an evolving discipline. Everyday, discoveries and innovations are made and published for the benefit of
everyone. Applying science concepts in the real life situations has been the call in the 21st century. It is in this idea that the
YASEd, through its Literacy Program, initiates the Science Literacy Day.
Science Literacy Day was practiced before. Science teachers provided trivia or news clippings about latest innovations or
advancements in the field of Science. This year, the Science Department together with the YASEd through the Special
Science Class will revive the Science Literacy Day activity which will be called, the Search for the Science Wizard.
The Guidelines for the Science Literacy Day: Search for the Science Wizard are as follows:
1. All students taking Science subjects are required to participate in this activity.
2. The Special Science Class (SSC) students will spearhead the activity in coordination with the Science teachers.
3. The SSC students will research and compile latest and relevant information in the fields of Earth Science, Biology,
Chemistry, Physics and Information Technology. The researched output will be summarized and published in 1-
page short bond paper. The SSC teachers will collect the outputs and validate its content. Along with the
compilation is a 10-item objective type test questions (multiple choice, identification, true or false) based on the
article.
4. The Science Literacy Day is every Friday of the week. It will commence on September 16, 2011 and last until
March 9, 2011. Hence, every Mondays of each week the SSC shall submit an output that will be published online.
5. Articles are published in the official Facebook page of the YOUNG ATENEANS’ SCIENCE EDUCATORS for the
students to access. A downloadable copy will also be posted in the YASEd e-class account should a student wished
to download it.
6. A copy of the researched output and the test questions will be given to all Science teachers to be administered as
short quiz during the Literacy Day.
7. Checking of answers shall be done immediately after administering the short quiz, and results are recorded as
short quiz for the day.
8. The YASEd members will collate the result of the Literacy Day Quiz every month. The highest scorer of the quiz
across year level for each month will be awarded as the Science Wizard of the Month. Announcement will be made
during the First Morning Assemblies of each month.
9. Deadlines:
SSC Submission of researched output (hard and soft copies to SSC teachers or to Mrs Ibañez) – every Monday of
the week
YASEd Distribution of copies to the Science teachers – every Wednesday of the week
YASEd Posting of the Final copy in Facebook Fan page and e-class – every Wednesday of the week
Science Literacy Day – every Friday of the week across year level
