2. Because play is a child’s job.
Because childhood is fleeting.
The Children’s Museum of Wilmington’s mission is to stimulate a child’s imagination,
curiosity and love of learning.
Our goal is for all our visitors to learn about themselves and the world in which we live,
through informal, playful, hands-on, child-directed experiences.
And we’ve been delivering on that goal for nearly 19 years.
We are a Top 10 tourist attraction in New Hanover County and #1 in downtown Wilmington.
Wilmington Parent and Family magazines distinguish us as Wilmington’s Best Family Museum
almost annually.
We celebrate the joys of childhood discovery, serving more than 65,000 visitors annually.
Our educational exhibits and programs explore the arts, sciences, culture and more in a
welcoming environment.
Our “Leading to Reading” pre-literacy program and foreign language programs
provide children essential skills during their most powerful age windows for learning.
We reach out to special populations such as children with disabilities, military families, homeschoolers,
and students considered at-risk from disadvantaged schools.
The Grassroots Science Museum Collaborative in Raleigh has indicated that Grassroots
funds are leveraged at a 15:1 ratio.
It is hard to conceive, but using that number, our $600K budget could leverage close to
$9 million dollars for the local economy!
“I cannot thank CMoW enough for all of the times we have learned, grown,
experimented, imagined, laughed, created, pretended, even at times failed….
all within the safe environment of the Museum.” –Member Mom
