Serge Moscovici, a French social psychologist, stated "Without a theory of social representation, we cannon understand social construction." Moscovici founded the European Laboratory of Social Psychology and developed the theory of social representation, which proposes that ideas and values are shaped by social interactions and the prevailing Zeitgeist, or spirit of the time. According to Moscovici, representations are how societies construct a common understanding of reality.
