The Manhattan Project was a large, secretive US government program during World War II that developed the first nuclear weapons. Students were working at a secret base for the Manhattan Project in the spring of 1945, just as the US was readying a nuclear device for use against opponents and was working to prevent hostile powers from acquiring such weapons and information through espionage or other means.
