Ms. Xueyang Wu has asked me to write a letter of recommendation for her. I do this with great pleasure. I
have known Ms. Wu for 1 1/2 years. She was in my Managerial Economics classes (ECO 555) in the MS
- Finance program at DePaulUniversity. She has expressed an interest in obtaining an
analytical/empirical job focused on U.S. banking and financial markets
Of the approximately 3000 Masters students (MBA and MS) I have taught in the last 16 years at DePaul
University, Ms. Wu ranks in the top 25 – that is, the top 0.8%. Among the 200 MS students I have had
during this time, she is in the top 5. I cannot stress enough that Ms. Wu is an exceptional student.
What stood out for me in my classes with Ms. Wu was her ability to focus on the crux of an issue and
apply economic theory to situations that arise in everyday experiences. Her inquisitiveness coupled with
an uncanny grasp of microeconomic theory makes her well suited for any analytical position. Ms. Wu is
also motivated and hard-working. This combination of characteristics is what we all want in our students,
but almost never find in any one student.
Ms. Wu has a good working knowledge of banking and financial systems. She has worked in this field
and has talked with me severaltimes about her interest in financial institution.
Ms. Wu possesses good communication skills. Her exams were well organized and written. She was a
leader in my class, helping others and arranging study sessions. She seems to work well in groups and
seems to be looked up to as a leader by her class peers.
