I write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Ms. Yuan Yi Chen for an internship
position in your company. I have known Yuan Yi for one year and two months since she became
my full-time research assistant of an academic research project in July 2015. During this period,
I meet her five days a week to discuss research ideas and progress of research project. Hence, I am
very confident that I know Yuan Yi very well enough to write this letter of recommendation to
support her application.
Based on my personal observations, Yuan Yi is a brilliant, creative, highly motivated,
hard-working, and responsible young lady. She has a critical mindset toward the research project,
is able to propose interesting research ideas, works very independently and efficiently without
much guidance, and, more importantly, is very responsible for making significant progress on
schedule. Moreover, I am really impressive by her outstanding quantitative and programming
skills. Yuan Yi is capable of using difficult statistical softwares, such as EViews, Stata, and
MATLAB, to estimate complex econometric models, e.g., vector autoregression models and
threshold vector autoregression models. So far, I am more than satisfied with her excellent
performance as a research assistant. Based on her performance, I would like to regard Ms. Yuan Yi
Chen as one of the top 2% students among 2200 undergraduate students I have ever taught at
National Chengchi University in the last seventeen years.
