Pt100 bolt-on and screw-in sensors can be used for early detection of wear in critical plant components like bearings, motors and surfaces. The sensors monitor temperatures in a range of -30 to 180 degrees C or 25 to 90 degrees C with an IP67 rating. They can directly connect to controllers or convert temperature signals to a 4-20 mA output using a signal converter that costs around 100 euros. This allows condition-based maintenance to be implemented without complex expensive systems.

Essen, 01 June 2010 - Condition-based maintenance becomes more
and more important for the prevention of unplanned standstills.
Increased temperatures indicate wear which may lead to an unplanned
standstill. For continuous temperature measurement of critical plant
components such as rolling element bearing, motors or even surfaces,
ifm electronic offers reliable bolt-on and screw-in sensors with a Pt100
element.
The screw-in sensors with M5 and M6 threads as well as bolt-on sensors
for M6 screws monitor industrial applications in the temperature range of
-30…180 °C or 25…90 ° High ingress resistance of the sensor-cable

connection and thus reliable functioning is proven by protecting rating IP
67. In addition, the bolt-on sensor TS522A has the ATEX approval to
group II, category 3D/3G.
The user has the option to connect the sensor directly to a controller.
Furthermore it is possible to change the Pt100 signal to a 4...20 mA
signal by means of a measured signal converter. The price of such a
temperature measuring point consisting of a cable sensor and an ifm
measured signal converter (e.g. TP3237) is about EUR 100. Using simple
means companies can implement condition-based maintenance without
involving complex and expensive systems.
