Introduction

If you ask me how I feel after having conceptualized, defined and
started the design of the so-called “Real World Understanding
Systems”, I would say, from an intellectual point of view, that I'm
reflective sure to hold the principle of demarcation established by
Popper as for the scientific-technical character of the doctrinal
formulations and the epistemological and hermeneutic fundamentals
that define the innovation programs of the systems we aim to offer to
society. In the same sense, I would say, from a designer´s point of view,
that I am fully accountable, committed and convinced of the usefulness
of the efforts made so far as well as those that remain to be done.
Finally, as a person, I feel fortunate to be enriched every day with the
realities and expectations of these systems that justify for their own a
   lifetime commitment.

Concepts and differences between understanding,
interpretation, comprehension and influence

From a perspective that allows establishing “common places” to
epistemology and hermeneutics, we can say that understanding is the
product of cognitive-rational processes implemented by the specific
combination of resources deployed by the existing intelligence. These
resources are configured in order to conceptualize the perceived
realities in the various domains of the world, maintaining
conceptualization of true reality as its primary mission. In this sense,
the process of understanding is prior to the process of interpretation

inherent to the human being and whose ultimate goal is the
comprehension.
The fact of understanding involves that the cognitive-rational system of
reference is identified with the epistemological structure of a scientific
knowledge or a reality of the environment, i.e. from the systemic point
of view, understanding means achieving, decoding, encoding and
recoding the reality or knowledge shown.
From understanding, interpretation, also called pre-comprehension,
comes into play. Interpretation shapes the dialectic of knowledge
needed to establish the codes and languages for comprehension in a
cycle that coincides with the model proposed by Heidegger.
Compression is directly related to the proficiency in a language, be it
verbal, written, or behavioral and in the codes established by genetic
and cultural evolution. A person, organization or system that
comprehends is one that dominates a code or language on a subject
and takes into account what is meaningful to its goals at the moment in
which the comprehension has taken place.
Influencing is a direct consequence of comprehension. Who
comprehends something, immediately takes another state of mind that
changes its outlook on what he has comprehended, and therefore, he
does not remain the same way but is forced to trigger actions, conscious
or unconscious, intended to influence in the world in order to perceive
a more accurate representation of what he "wants it to be" (the chance
of being), of what he "fears that it becomes" (the risk of being) or,
finally, of what “is" (the problem of being).
The innovation work that JMJLAB and WUNDERMAC have
established within the scientific-technical building of Scientific
Intelligence is shaped based on the discernment of the meaning of
understanding, interpretation, comprehension and influence and its
epistemological and hermeneutic relations. As with Scientific
Intelligence, we have begun to work on a rational-cognitive framework,
giving up, by the moment, quantum and biomimetic approaches as
highly relevant and influential they might be in the future.

Introduction to Real World Understanding Systems

Regarding our technological innovation process, we have started to
develop what we call "World Understanding Machines" without
forgetting the connections and implications with the processes
described in the preceding paragraph, but rather, keeping them very
much present in our system designs.
With these premises, we focus our innovation activity on creating and
globally deploying dual (cognitive-rational) systems consisting of
computing and training tools and people in a particular operational
and organizational setting. The aim is to increase and accelerate the
world understanding capabilities of individuals, groups or
organizations so they can influence it in the best way for the individual
   and environmental objectives.
Systems around our "Real World Understanding Machines" are
inherently complex as are also the goals pursued by them and,
therefore, cannot be addressed from a trivial or simplistic perspective.
On the contrary, they require a process of continuous innovation and
design oriented to develop transference systems and methods that
enable the progressive improvement of harmonic functional models (of
   easy operation and complex structure).

Innovation programs objective and applications

Through the course of our innovation effort, we have seen an
exponential increase of the shortcomings of individuals and
organizations in the understanding, interpretation, comprehension and
influencing the real world. This is due to the increase in world´s
complexity. The causes of this complexness are, among others, our own
individual and group progress, the phenomenon of globalization, the
creation of intricate social networks in a short space of time, the old and
new unsolved conflicts because of a poor perception of the world, etc.
We believe that our innovation work is not only strategic but essential
to provide conceptual and technological tools that enable organizations
and general behaviors of the different social structures to be more
efficient and less self-destructive. In this sense, organizations that use
these systems become more efficient in their particular mission and

contribute more to the collective mission of the progress of human
being who thinks, feels, loves and acts in community with other living
      beings.
We have developed a framework that we call JMJLAB REAL WORLD
UNDERSTANDING DUAL MACHINE REFERENCE MODEL which
aim is to provide a basis for developing a systemic approach to our
objective. This approach intends to be progressively consistent with the
theoretical-formal academic work of scholars and researchers. The
model also allows us to establish the design and development roadmap
for our “ingenios1” and “Real World Understanding Systems”
The applications of such systems are obviously transversal and
transforming, i.e., there is no person or organization that cannot benefit
from the adoption of such systems, for example:
 The learning processes of children, young people or professionals
             in any area.
 Organizations whose primary mission is to provide strategic
information such as online information portals, investigation and
             intelligence government agencies, consultancies, etc.
 The governance structures of organizations such as management
teams of companies and public organizations, political leaders,
             opinion leaders, etc.
 Professionals groups or with common problems such as
             unemployed, sick.
            Knowledge workers.
 Supra-national bodies to address global problems and resolve
conflicts between nations, races, religions, etc.

system in which they are integrated and the organization that deploys them. JMJ-2009
