2. The theme of the 2015 World Food Day is about
"Social protection and agriculture to break the cycle
of rural poverty."
But what exactly is social protection?
When a poor family is in a difficult situation, or when it
doesn’t earn enough to provide for the needs of its
members, social protection helps the family to come
out of poverty.

3. On October 16th of each year is celebrated
the World Food Day to commemorate the
anniversary of the founding of FAO (Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations). It was born in October 16, 1945.
In 2015 the 70th anniversary of FAO was
commemorated.
Objectives of the Zero Hunger Challenge:
1. Zero children with expansion deficits under two years
2. 100% access to adequate food, always
3. 100% increase in productivity and income of small farmers
4. Zero losses and food waste

4. The official celebrations of World Food Day were held at
Expo Milano 2015.
The World Food Day 2015 come at the right time, after the
summit in September and before the United Nations
Conference on Climate Change.

5. On October 16th, 2014 we went to
‘Il Casolare’, a welcoming centre in
Sanfatucchio near Caastiglione del Lago.
There, we all discussed about drug
addiction. And we talked about how
common rural life and a common goal
could help individuals living with
depression, job, alcohol or drug problems.
The care facility would help people to be
reintegrated into society. So individuals,
developing their self-discipline and
willpower, would eventually overcome their
difficulties becoming a productive member
of the centre and of course of society.
In fact, ‘Il Casolare’ is a self-sufficient food
facility where people are able to produce
on their own both meat and agricultural
products.

6. On October 16th, 2014
World Food Day
was about the theme
of family farming.
For that reason the class 3P went to
“La Quercia del Pentimento”, a
farming estate in the Umbrian
countryside.
There, the students had been
explained the traditional breeding
and agricultural methods used to
protect the environment thanks to
the use of organic fertilizer.
