The Many Levels of Agile Work VisualizationSoftware Guru
In this presentation I describe various techniques I’ve used that have been useful for helping individuals and teams see, manage, and accomplish work.
Personal Kanban for individuals
Team Kanban boards for team collaboration
Multi-team coordination and Release Planning for streams of parallel work
Program modeling to tie threads together
Multi-Layer Roadmapping for long term collaborative planning
This document discusses the role and activities of an organization within a startup ecosystem. It asks what the organization currently does, including what programs it runs to promote its goals. It considers whether the organization could do more, such as programs to strengthen different parts of the ecosystem and link them together. Examples of potential programs discussed are a talent exchange and an inn demand program. The document raises questions about how such programs could be implemented, whether the organization would run them itself or partner with others, how they would be funded, and how participation could be incentivized. It concludes by asking where the organization may be in five years.
An upset CEO was losing business and approached by an Agile consultant about his problems. The consultant explained that adopting an Agile mindset could help by taking an incremental approach to establish it. The CEO was interested in the benefits and hired the consultant. The consultant analyzed the issues, created a phased transformation plan with defined tasks and results. The plan showed immediate and long-term benefits. With leadership support following a top-down approach, the transformation began and positive results were gradually achieved.
Heather Wydeven- Designers + Developers: So Happy Together (Evolution)Thoughtworks
If you've ever worked on a cross-functional team comprised of designers and developers, you know that integrating the two successfully can be challenging. Heather will share learnings from her own experiences about how designers and developers can flourish together and deliver great software.

Building Distributed Systems in Distributed Teams - Sebastian GrodzickiPROIDEA
Building distributed systems is notoriously hard... building a distributed team, even more so. At Elastic — the company behind Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, and Logstash — everything is distributed; the company and our products. This talk dives into the details of how Elastic is thriving on its distributed model:
How Elastic started to be distributed by design.
What our shared values are and what we have learned as we progressed and grew to our current size.
What the day of an Elastician can look like.
What we are using in terms of tooling.
How we hire and onboard new employees.

Agile in the Real World: Digital Moderation (Talk for IIBA/VUW)Cat McRae
A discussion recently given for VUW's 1st year Business Analysis class in InfoSys on behalf of the IIBA. Topics covered are: what it's like working on an agile project, being a recent graduate on a software project, fundamentals of agile and how they apply (or not!) on our project, and some of the daily tasks of a cross-functional consultant on the DM project.
This document discusses how Mediacurrent, a digital agency, has adopted an agile approach out of necessity to better meet client needs. It outlines the benefits of the agile model, including increased revenue, better cash flow, and improved morale. It also addresses how pivoting an agency to agile requires aligning roles, creating a measurement culture, and redefining terms. The overall message is that agile has positively impacted Mediacurrent by allowing them to iterate quickly based on client feedback and adapt to changing requirements.
Pin the Tail on the Metric: A Field-Tested Agile GameTechWell
Metrics don’t have to be a necessary evil. If done right, metrics can help guide us to make better forward-looking decisions, rather than being used for simply managing or monitoring. They can help us identify trade-offs between options for what to do next versus punitive or worse, purely managerial measures. Steve Martin won’t be giving the Top Ten List of field-tested metrics you should use. Instead, in this interactive mini-workshop, he leads you through the critical thinking necessary for you to determine what is right for you to measure. First, Steve explores why you want to measure something—whether it’s for a team, a portfolio, or even an agile transformation. Next, he provides multiple real-life metrics examples to help drive home concepts behind characteristics of good and bad metrics. Finally, Steve shows how to run his field-tested agile game—Pin the Tail on the Metric. Take back this activity to help you guide metrics conversations at your organization.

Dr Lauren Tuckerman
Content Description:
This session will use insights from recent research projects to understand how the SDGs can be used in strategic decision making to frame and align sustainability with organisational goals. We will go through two examples, before a short interactive session stimulates your thinking on how to best use the SDGs in your strategic thinking. We hope that you will come away from this session with some tools that might support you towards sustainable decision making in your organisation.
Conference talk at Plone Conference 2019 in Ferrara, Italy.
A traditional client-to-service provider work relationship is predicated on a hierarchy in which the needs and wishes of the client take precedence over all other considerations. In a rapidly paced work world under the increasing influence of accelerated technological change, such a traditional approach can have detrimental effects on the wellbeing of employees. The question with which service providers today must grapple is: How can we maintain our customer focus and ensure continued customer satisfaction while at the same time protecting the wellbeing of our team members?
The concept of “New Work” offers several suggestions for how to reconcile these seemingly competing needs. New Work encompasses a wealth of theories and methods relating to the organization of work, from self-organization to agility and modern leadership, to new work spaces, among many others. In this talk, we focus on our experience with implementing one such concept.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away
