Work motivation is a process that energizes employees to achieve work goals through specific means. Motivation can be internal, stemming from feelings of fairness, or external from goals and incentives. Equity theory proposes that people are motivated by fairness, while goal setting theory suggests setting challenging yet attainable goals increases productivity and motivation by influencing effort and choice. Together, these theories provide frameworks for understanding and enhancing motivation in the workplace.
