This Austin WordPress Beginner’s class goes back to basics. WPATX has seen membership climb and most of our new members are just that — Folks new to WordPress.
Those of us who teach and mentor can often forget the level of confusion that comes with learning a new language, and no, I’m not talking about PHP or JS. I have been remembering how difficult it was for me to envision and understand what was happening when I was following the “simple instructions” of setting up and using my first WordPress site.
This WPATX Beginner’s class will be devoted to learning the vocabulary of WordPress, understanding the industry nomenclature that describes just how WordPress does what it does when you tap your keyboard.
The goal of this class is to help our community of WordPress Beginners really understand what is going on behind the screen when you are entering text into your pages and posts and adding plugins.

My Website Is Old Enough To Vote - Kris HowardWordCamp Sydney
The Web is an industry that thrives on the new... but what about building sites that last?
In 1996, I used my newly acquired HTML skills to build a fan site for my favourite author.
Twenty years later, the site - roalddahlfans.com - is still alive and kicking.
I'll trace the development of the site over the years, which mirrors both my own career journey as a developer and the trajectory of the web as a whole.
I'll also talk about the challenges I faced during my recent 6-month project to convert the whole site - nearly 1500 pages - to WordPress, dragging it into the 21st century at last.
Why should you choose templatic directory themeDavid Chaser
Templatic Directory Theme is well-suited for creating a fully customizable online directory site. It has top-notch customer support, compatibility with major WordPress plugins, unlimited custom post types, and many monetization options like listing submissions and ads. The theme also offers fully customizable admin panels, numerous addons, features like claim listings, star ratings, reviews, and proximity search, and is ideal for anyone looking to build a global or local online directory.
Have you heard the expression: "the first impression is what counts"? Department websites are likely to be the first department contact of top prospective students and the main source of information for current students. Websites can also be an instrumental tool to keep contact with former students and increase the interconnectedness of the department. Also, having an appealing, informative and easy-to-navigate website is critical to gain recognition and academic reputation ranking. Advisors perform key roles in many of these activities and they can significantly contribute to the attractiveness of the department website. This talk is directed to advisors and administrators with minimal or no experience on website design. I will talk about my own journey on creating and maintaining my department website (https://genetics.tamu.edu/) and provide you with practical tips on how you can become more involved in the content and design of yours. I will also discuss multiple ways to create department social media presence and engaging content. After the talk, the audience will have multiple suggestions to recruit top quality students and provide current students access to career resources through developing content, design, branding/style, structure and language on their department websites.

REST services and IBM Domino/XWork - DanNotes 19-20. november 2014John Dalsgaard
Loose coupling of systems is key to future development! Why? Because it will allow us to change the "components" as we go along instead of creating monster big systems that are tied together using all sorts of different technologies. Webservices have been a way to obtain this over the last decade. More recently a special variant has become very popular, namely the JSON based REST service.
Imagine you could extend your data out to the world outside your Domino environment? - in an easy way....! And imagine those data could easily be incorporated into other systems via standardized interfaces... Could that extend the value of your current systems further? Could this be a way to use new technologies to modernize your users' experience of working with your systems?
Come and take away knowledge about how to open your Domino/XWork based systems up to the world outside using JSON based REST services. They are going to be key to future development in Domino/XWork - whether you want to use data in browser solutions (e.g. based on angular.js or ExtJS) or native mobile apps (built in whatever technology is best).
This document summarizes a presentation about backing up WordPress websites. It discusses why backups are important, what should be backed up (database and files), when backups should occur (daily, weekly, monthly), where backups should be stored (off server in the cloud), and different methods for backing up (manual, plugins, services, site managers). The presentation emphasizes that automated backups are necessary to ensure backups actually happen regularly and that backups should be tested to ensure they can be restored.

Digital Banking in the Cloud: How Citizens Bank Unlocked Their MainframePrecisely
Inconsistent user experience and siloed data, high costs, and changing customer expectations – Citizens Bank was experiencing these challenges while it was attempting to deliver a superior digital banking experience for its clients. Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.
Ever-changing customer expectations demand more modern digital experiences, and the bank needed to find a solution that could provide real-time data to its customer channels with low latency and operating costs. Join this session to learn how Citizens is leveraging Precisely to replicate mainframe data to its customer channels and deliver on their “modern digital bank” experiences.

Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.
Northern Engraving | Nameplate Manufacturing Process - 2024Northern Engraving
Manufacturing custom quality metal nameplates and badges involves several standard operations. Processes include sheet prep, lithography, screening, coating, punch press and inspection. All decoration is completed in the flat sheet with adhesive and tooling operations following. The possibilities for creating unique durable nameplates are endless. How will you create your brand identity? We can help!
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away
