Woodbar supporting the local community
“We would all like to thank you for your sponsorship of our
Greenpower car. After many months of building and testing
we entered our first race on the 23rd September. The weather
on the day was very wet and windy but great fun and an
exciting experience. Although our car was not the fastest it
ran well and kept going through the whole race. Our aim now
is to build an even faster car that can cover more distance.”

Our Approach
Commercial
Our experience
Woodbar provides a dedicated service in delivering high quality and unique
projects to suit the individual requirements of all Clients, regardless of their size or
type of business.
Working within the Commercial sector can sometimes be challenging as
completion dates are often crucial to the success of a project.
At Woodbar each project has it’s own dedicated team, consisting of, a Contracts
Manager, Contract Surveyor and a Site Supervisor. These people are responsible,
under the supervision of the directors, for ensuring each project is completed on
time and to a high standard.
Many of these incorporated extensive alteration works and co-ordination of the
final space planning to ensure that we achieved the requirements of both our
Client’s and the end users.
We take pride in our projects to ensure that they are finished to the highest
standards whilst minimising disruption.
Our company philosophy is that; “if you wouldn’t accept it at home then it is not
an acceptable standard for our projects” and we use this philosophy to ensure all
of our projects achieve the same high standards.

Minimising disruption to the office environment
It may be a requirement that the office is to remain open
throughout the delivery of the project, and therefore we will
ensure that the project is well managed in order to allow this.
We will ensure that noise and disruption is kept to a minimum
as well as endeavouring to schedule any exceptionally noisy
aspect of the project to out of office hours.
Safety of staff and visitors comes
first at all times
We take the management of Health and Safety
of employees, sub-contractors, staff and visitors
extremely seriously, and we are proud of the
outstanding record that we have attained, and
will continue to review our policies and practices
to ensure that Health and Safety is at the forefront
of all that we do. We endeavour to facilitate these
Health and Safety requirements by ensuring that
all involved or affected are made aware of the
potential risks associated with construction sites.

Case Study 1
Client 5th Floor, 40 Bernard Street
Value £1.1m
Description
40 Bernard Street is a modern multi-tenanted office building
positioned immediately opposite Russell Square underground
station and adjacent to the fantastic shopping facilities at the
Brunswick Centre. The building is within the heart of Bloomsbury
affording easy access to Kings Cross and Euston stations with the
Piccadilly line also providing access to the West End.
In 2012 we secured the contract to carry out a refurbishment
project that would transform the fifth floor into a 4300 Sq. Ft
Grade A open plan office suite with a spectacular 3,800 sq. ft
wrap-around terrace.
Being on the top floor of an occupied office building in Central
London, access was always going to be a problem, and with
the structural alterations requiring over 50 tonnes of structural
steelwork to be lifted into the fifth floor, this was an
exceptional challenge.
Once the structural steelwork had been installed, and the
existing partitions removed, we carried out a Grade A
refurbishment of the area incorporating; new electrical & data
installations, raised access floors, VRV air conditioning, metal tile
suspended ceilings, and including new WCs, and shower rooms.

Client The Barbican Centre
Value £130,000
Description
The Barbican Centre is Europe’s largest multi-arts and conference venue,
presenting a diverse range of visual art, music, theatre, dance, film and
creative learning events. It is also home to the London Symphony Orchestra.
The Centre comprises: the 1,949-seat Barbican Hall, 1,166-seat Barbican
Theatre, the 200-seat Pit theatre, a cinema, the Barbican Art Gallery, a
second gallery The Curve, 4,645m2 of foyers and public spaces, the Lakeside
Terrace, a roof-top tropical conservatory, 7 conference suites, 2 trade
exhibition halls, private function rooms and 3 restaurants; Barbican Foodhall,
Barbican Lounge and Searcy’s.
In 2010 we were approached to undertake a refurbishment programme
which would see the conference facilities, conference reception and auditoria
on level 4 of the Barbican Centre refurbished in keeping with the Centre’s
ethos. As part of the refurbishment vision ‘waved’ feature walls were
installed within the auditoria and boardroom which provided added acoustic
performance, and, once illuminated by the feature lighting, the areas are
transformed into modern, stimulating environments.
Part of our brief was to undertake the refurbishment whilst the building was
in full use without hindering the occupants. We were responsible for making
our own arrangements for access for workmen and subcontractors, for the
delivery and accommodation of all materials, and of plant and other facilities
required to carry out the works.
Our Approach
Education
Our experience
Woodbar has a 20 year track record for delivering the highest standards
of workmanship, quality, and Client service. We work within occupied
schools delivering a wide range of refurbishment services, from class
room refurbishments, to the construction of additional educational and
sports facilities.
We understand that delivering projects within education is not just about
the construction, but about managing the projects and delivering a
learning experience for all involved – our Clients, the School and Students.

A dedicated and experienced Project Management Team
Our team of skilled professionals provides tailored solutions to meet
the precise needs of the project. Whether it is a classroom or laboratory
refurbishment, or the construction of additional teaching blocks and sports
facilities. When deadlines are pressing, we can offer fast-track programmes
and, from day one, a dedicated project manager will ensure that work is
completed on time and on budget.
When working in schools we ensure that effective communication protocols
are established, to ensure that the project runs smoothly without impeding
the normal running of the facility.
Engendering your learning
environment
We believe that a school or university embarking on
a construction project is a major commitment, and
this needs to be managed well, to allow the school
to function throughout the project.
Disruption is kept to a minimum by establishing
a Facilities Management Plan to ensure that
the necessary accommodation is available at
the required time. Noise is always kept to a
minimum, and, we will endeavour to schedule any
exceptionally noisy aspect of the project to out of
school hours.
On a number of occasions when we have carried
out long term works within an occupied school,
we have worked with the school staff to allow
the children to use the scheme as a study project.
Whilst we realise that these opportunities rely on
the support of the teachers, we are always keen
to assist the school in providing unique educational
opportunities out of our building projects.
Safety of staff and students comes first at all
times.
Woodbar understands the importance of security when working
within sensitive areas such as a school. To support the safety and
security of students, we employ rigorous audits of all the personnel
involved in our projects, and will ensure that all directly employed
staff are CRB checked.
We take the management of Health and Safety of employees, sub-
contractors, teaching staff, students and visitors extremely seriously,
and we are proud of the outstanding record that we have attained,
and will continue to review our policies and practices to ensure that
Health and Safety is at the forefront of all that we do.
Client Primrose Hill Primary School
Value £1.2m
Description
Primrose Hill Primary School is a Grade II listed Victorian Building in
the heart of the Primrose Hill Conservation area in Camden.
This classic three level Victorian school, originally housing Girls, Boys
and Infants on separate floors, needed complete re-modelling to
work effectively as a teaching establishment in the 21st Century.
While the Grade II listed school, at 3,000sqm, is a third bigger than
is required for the number on its roll, 10 of the 14 classrooms were
well below the size expected by the DfES. It also had an original
assembly hall at each level, but could not accommodate the whole
school.
The kitchen, located on the first floor, was in need of replacement
and relocation, and the main entrance reception, on the ground
floor, made access of the school difficult. Work was carried out in
four phases linked with a decanting strategy designed to minimise
disruption to the children’s education.
The end result provides five new state-of-the-art classrooms of the
correct size and location, better siting of resource areas, revised
assembly facilities, a new kitchen and dining suite and a redesigned
and rationalised entrance and administration hub. The ground floor
is now available for community use without security issues.

Client Park Walk Primary School
Value £330,000
Description
Park Walk Primary School is a Grade 11 listed building in Chelsea,
accessible to people with disabilities in line with the Disability
Discrimination Act.
The scheme removed the original concrete staircase, leaving a
triple-height void, 2.5m wide x 4.5m deep, that was filled with a
lift and two steel and resin bridges that cross the space, at first and
second-floor levels.
Each floor was colour-coded with animal graphics. The lift has
a glass rear face, fitted with strips of LEDs that illuminate vinyl
graphics of nocturnal animals on the wall as it moves.
A 3m x 2.5m rectangular roof light of toughened and laminated
glass was installed to draw in daylight.
Three animal graphics made from cut frosted film were applied
to the internal face of the glass, while a 1,800mm-diameter circle
was cut out of the ceiling to create the illusion that an ostrich,
monkey and bear are peering in.

Our Approach
Healthcare
Our experience
Working within the Healthcare sector requires an experienced contractor
who understands the sensitive nature of the environment and appreciates
the impact of their work upon Patients and Staff. Woodbar has an in-depth
understanding of the challenges faced in carrying out construction work within
Healthcare premises.
With fast track projects being required within high security and high end
facilities, we are seeing a greater trend to combine a broad base of experience
when working within this sector.
We will ensure that we minimise disruption and optimise hygiene, safety and
security. We work closely with our Clients to ensure their specific needs are
addressed effectively.
We will ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum, and will establish a
Facilities Management Plan to make certain that the necessary accommodation
is available at the required time, and that cleanliness is maintained throughout
the operational healthcare facilities in order to minimise the risk of infection
spreading among patients.
Noise is always kept to a minimum and we will endeavour to schedule any
exceptionally noisy aspect of the project to quieter parts of the day in order to
cause as little disturbance to patients as possible.

Client 28 – 29 Wimpole Street, W1
Value £550,000
Description
28-29 Wimpole street is a listed building in the heart of the
Howard De Walden Estate. The Howard de Walden Estate is
owned directly and indirectly by a number of members of
the Howard de Walden Family. The Estate owns, manages
and leases the majority of the 92 acres of real estate within
Marylebone, which comprises the area from Marylebone
High Street in the west to Robert Adam’s Portland Place
in the east and from Wigmore Street in the south to
Marylebone Road in the north. The Estate is renowned for its
creative management techniques, including the striking and
imaginative regeneration of Marylebone High Street area.
This project saw the rejuvenation of the ground and basement
levels of 28-29 Wimpole Street to provide a contemporary
environment in which to house a private medical facility with
adjoining consultation rooms. A challenging aspect of this
project was installation of a new incoming electrical main
to provide additional power to the building. The first – fourth
floors are all in residential occupation therefore any disruptive
works had to be meticulously planned to avoid any disruption
to the surrounding residents.
As part of the refurbishment many of the building’s features
were painstakingly returned to their original condition. The
installation of two brand new metal and glass staircases adds
a touch of modernism to give a contemporary feel throughout
the suite.

Case Study 1
Client Wellesley Road EPH
Value £46,000
Description
Wellesley Road Elderly Peoples Home is an Adult Social
Care Home which offers care to those who can no longer
look after themselves. We were employed by the London
Borough of Camden to undertake the refurbishment of two
bathroom areas within the Home as part of a pilot scheme
which LBC were considering rolling out to other homes in
the area.
The refurbishment included completely stripping out the
bathroom areas before installing state of the art DDA
compliant equipment. This included the use of electrically
operated movable baths, hygienic wall cladding systems,
sensor flow sanitaryware and level access showers with
Doc M Shower accessories.
As the home was fully occupied and operational
throughout the project it was essential that the works were
programmed, managed and progressed in such a way that
it would not impact into the day to day activities of the
home and it’s residents.
The home is a residence for elderly and frail people and
therefore all staff are required to be CRB checked before
they can work within the home.

Client The Mansion House
Value £1.1m
Description
The Mansion House is located opposite the Bank of England at Bank Junction. As
well as being the home and office of the Lord Mayor of the City of London, this
unique building provides a spectacular setting for business meetings, civic and livery
activity, and conferences.
Charitable and business related organisations also use Mansion House for
fundraising events, receptions and dinners. A number of high profile events are
held each year which provide a platform for cabinet ministers, visiting Heads of
Government, and other prominent public figures. Some 50,000 people visit the
Mansion House every year.
Since 2006 we have carried out refurbishment works during the summer period
when the Mansion House is closed. During this time we have undertaken works in
areas including;
The Egyptian Hall - this is the main reception room at Mansion House and is so-
called because it is what the architect George Dance thought how an Egyptian Hall
would look. The room can entertain up to 500 people.
The Lord Mayor’s office – this is also referred to as the Venetian Parlour because of
the style of the windows.
The Long Parlour Room - where the Lord Mayor has meetings, receptions, lunches
and dinners. The table, when fully extended, can seat 36 people. For the sake of
symmetry, there are false doors at both ends of the room.
The State Drawing Rooms - where the VIPs gather before a reception.

Client The Old Bailey Central Criminal Courts
Value Approx £1m
Description
The Old Bailey is located about 200 yards northwest of St Paul’s Cathedral, just outside the former
western wall of the City of London. It is named after the street on which it is located, which
itself follows the line of the original fortified wall, or “bailey”, of the City. The initial location of
the courthouse close to Newgate Prison allowed prisoners to be conveniently brought to the
courtroom for their trials. More generally, its position between the City of London and Westminster
meant it was a suitable location for trials involving people from all over the metropolis, north of
the river Thames.
Although the Old Bailey courthouse was rebuilt several times between 1674 and 1913, the basic
design of the courtrooms remained the same. They were arranged so as to emphasise the contest
between the accused and the rest of the court. The accused stood at “the bar” (or in “the dock”),
directly facing the witness box (where prosecution and defence witnesses testified), and the
judges seated on the other side of the room.
We first started work at the Old Bailey in 1996 when we undertook an internal & external
refurbishment programme to the office and administration areas. We have continued to work
within the Court House since this point and have undertaken projects such as; the redecoration
of the cell areas including a separate anti-ligature scheme, replacement of the cell doors and the
refurbishment and redecoration of numerous Court Rooms, Public and office/administration areas.
Following a well-publicised incident in 2008 where a prisoner jumped out of the dock and attacked
a judge, we were approached by the City of London to design and install security screens within in
the main court areas, which are listed, to prevent prisoners from absconding from the dock area.
Our Approach
Residential
Our experience
Over the past 30 years we have completed a plethora of Residential
projects ranging from high end refurbishments to cyclical maintenance
on multi dwelling projects.
Everyone at Woodbar understands the commitment that is taken on
when working in or around another persons abode; we count on all
our staff and subcontractors to be polite, respectful and courteous at
all times.
Each individual project has a team allocated to it and when dealing
with Residential projects we always allocate a Resident Liaison Officer
to ensure that the residents have continual access to input their views
into the project.
We take pride in our work to ensure that the project is finished to
the highest standard often incorporating new technologies whilst
appreciating planning constraints.

Client Exchange Flat, Commercial St
Value £150,000
Description
The Exchange Building was formally a telephone exchange
before it was converted by Philippe Stark. It is situated along
the busy Commercial Street in East London and is within close
proximity of Spitalfield Market, Brick Lane & the City of London.
We were approached to undertake a high-spec refurbishment to
a flat within the building. In order to counteract the dense urban
character of London’s Spitalfield, the Architect came up with the
vision of radically transforming this flat’s interior to abstractly
recreate a piece of the New England forest familiar to the client’s
home.
As the centre piece of the refurbishment we installed an
automatically irrigated ‘living wall’ which grows a range of ferns
and brings a moist cooling presence to the kitchen area. Lighting
behind the laser-cut screens projects a pattern of the tree canopy
across the ceiling through the living space. Bespoke furniture was
made with raw steel and charred oak allowing the materials to
express the process of formation from which they originated.
As part of the project we also adapted the existing configuration
to provide upgraded living facilities including; a new under floor
heating system, oak flooring, contemporary wet room & new
kitchen with bespoke cabinetry.

Client Tray House, 20 Redbridge Lane, E11
Value £163,000
Description
The rejuvenation of this suburban, four-bedroom house
involved the placement of a single material insert – a black
tray; a room laid into the garden cheek-by-jowl against the
grain of the existing Victorian House.
The design for the house sought to re-organise its old-
fashioned arrangement of cellular spaces and provide a
new relationship between inside and outdoors suitable for
a young family. The openings in the ‘tray’ and the careful
demolition of existing walls were controlled to reveal
powerful glimpses of the black brick from the inside, and
the delicate outline of the newly-formed openings in the
Victorian house from the outside.
The kitchen and dining spaces are further connected to
the garden with a timber-clad island that forms part of the
kitchen worktop extending to form an external dining table
and garden bench. Over the bench sits an all-sliding, all-
hinged door/window with various permutations of 5m wide
openness. A practical, versatile and fluid transition space
between inside and out – a new lease of life fit for a family.

Client Nags Head Public House - Covent Garden
Value £140,000
Description
The Nags Head PH is a traditional Victorian London pub
located in the heart of London’s Covent Garden, and is famous
for being a meeting point with locals and tourists alike.
We secured the contract to completely refurbish the bar,
lounge and toilet facilities of the pub. However because of its
central location the pub produces high revenue for its owners,
McMullen Brewers, and therefore it was essential that the pub
was closed for the minimum amount of time.
In light of the generally small footprint of the pub and the
large amount of works which needed to be undertaken in an
exceptionally short space of time, we had to work on the pub
24hrs a day in order to minimise the loss experienced through
the closure of the venue.
In order to achieve this, the project had to be carefully
programmed and procured to ensure that the risk of any
delays were minimised. Two teams were employed, one
would carry out all of the noisy disruptive works during the
normal working hours and the other would progress any of
the less disruptive operations.
The project was delivered on time and to the clients complete
satisfaction.

Client Nike Town - Oxford Street
Value £190,000
Description
Nike’s flagship store Nike Town, situated on the corner of
Regent Street and Oxford Street, displays the full range of Nike
products in an incredible setting, inspired by the City of London
and athletes’ achievements all over the world.
Nike Town has the largest women’s sports clothing and
footwear area in Europe, as well as its very own kids pavilion
with clothes for boys and girls from infants up to 16 years old.
Every swoosh-lover’s dream – the UK’s flagship Nike store is the
only place in the country to see the omnipresent sports brand’s
full range all together.
As the name suggests, the shop is a concept ‘town’. Buildings,
each housing a specific sport, surround a central square the
store’s focal point. In its centre sits the core – a 3-storey high,
360° projector screen – which springs to life every 20 minutes;
as window blinds are snapped shut, customers are barraged
with a menagerie of sporting images.
Niketown likes to think it’s more than just a shop; each week
they put on special events, athletes come in for interviews,
they even organise a running club. With 70,000 square foot of
shopping space they manage to fit everything in, and more
besides.
In preparation of the stores opening we decorated the whole
of Nike town including the entire shop floor, storage and staff
areas. Specialist floor paints were used to create bespoke court
and pitch areas within the store and all of the services and
ceiling were sprayed black to facilitate the secluded industrial
appearance which is the concept of the store.

Our Approach Commercial Our experience Woodbarprovides a dedicated service in delivering high quality and unique projects to suit the individual requirements of all Clients, regardless of their size or type of business. Working within the Commercial sector can sometimes be challenging as completion dates are often crucial to the success of a project. At Woodbar each project has it’s own dedicated team, consisting of, a Contracts Manager, Contract Surveyor and a Site Supervisor. These people are responsible, under the supervision of the directors, for ensuring each project is completed on time and to a high standard. Many of these incorporated extensive alteration works and co-ordination of the final space planning to ensure that we achieved the requirements of both our Client’s and the end users. We take pride in our projects to ensure that they are finished to the highest standards whilst minimising disruption. Our company philosophy is that; “if you wouldn’t accept it at home then it is not an acceptable standard for our projects” and we use this philosophy to ensure all of our projects achieve the same high standards. 4 Call us today on 0208 805 2188 or email mail@woodbar.co.uk Minimising disruption to the office environment It may be a requirement that the office is to remain open throughout the delivery of the project, and therefore we will ensure that the project is well managed in order to allow this. We will ensure that noise and disruption is kept to a minimum as well as endeavouring to schedule any exceptionally noisy aspect of the project to out of office hours. Safety of staff and visitors comes first at all times We take the management of Health and Safety of employees, sub-contractors, staff and visitors extremely seriously, and we are proud of the outstanding record that we have attained, and will continue to review our policies and practices to ensure that Health and Safety is at the forefront of all that we do. We endeavour to facilitate these Health and Safety requirements by ensuring that all involved or affected are made aware of the potential risks associated with construction sites.

Commercial Case Study 2 Commercial CaseStudy 1 Client 5th Floor, 40 Bernard Street Value £1.1m Description 40 Bernard Street is a modern multi-tenanted office building positioned immediately opposite Russell Square underground station and adjacent to the fantastic shopping facilities at the Brunswick Centre. The building is within the heart of Bloomsbury affording easy access to Kings Cross and Euston stations with the Piccadilly line also providing access to the West End. In 2012 we secured the contract to carry out a refurbishment project that would transform the fifth floor into a 4300 Sq. Ft Grade A open plan office suite with a spectacular 3,800 sq. ft wrap-around terrace. Being on the top floor of an occupied office building in Central London, access was always going to be a problem, and with the structural alterations requiring over 50 tonnes of structural steelwork to be lifted into the fifth floor, this was an exceptional challenge. Once the structural steelwork had been installed, and the existing partitions removed, we carried out a Grade A refurbishment of the area incorporating; new electrical & data installations, raised access floors, VRV air conditioning, metal tile suspended ceilings, and including new WCs, and shower rooms. 5Visit us online at www.woodbar.co.uk Client The Barbican Centre Value £130,000 Description The Barbican Centre is Europe’s largest multi-arts and conference venue, presenting a diverse range of visual art, music, theatre, dance, film and creative learning events. It is also home to the London Symphony Orchestra. The Centre comprises: the 1,949-seat Barbican Hall, 1,166-seat Barbican Theatre, the 200-seat Pit theatre, a cinema, the Barbican Art Gallery, a second gallery The Curve, 4,645m2 of foyers and public spaces, the Lakeside Terrace, a roof-top tropical conservatory, 7 conference suites, 2 trade exhibition halls, private function rooms and 3 restaurants; Barbican Foodhall, Barbican Lounge and Searcy’s. In 2010 we were approached to undertake a refurbishment programme which would see the conference facilities, conference reception and auditoria on level 4 of the Barbican Centre refurbished in keeping with the Centre’s ethos. As part of the refurbishment vision ‘waved’ feature walls were installed within the auditoria and boardroom which provided added acoustic performance, and, once illuminated by the feature lighting, the areas are transformed into modern, stimulating environments. Part of our brief was to undertake the refurbishment whilst the building was in full use without hindering the occupants. We were responsible for making our own arrangements for access for workmen and subcontractors, for the delivery and accommodation of all materials, and of plant and other facilities required to carry out the works.

Our Approach Education Our experience Woodbarhas a 20 year track record for delivering the highest standards of workmanship, quality, and Client service. We work within occupied schools delivering a wide range of refurbishment services, from class room refurbishments, to the construction of additional educational and sports facilities. We understand that delivering projects within education is not just about the construction, but about managing the projects and delivering a learning experience for all involved – our Clients, the School and Students. 6 Call us today on 0208 805 2188 or email mail@woodbar.co.uk A dedicated and experienced Project Management Team Our team of skilled professionals provides tailored solutions to meet the precise needs of the project. Whether it is a classroom or laboratory refurbishment, or the construction of additional teaching blocks and sports facilities. When deadlines are pressing, we can offer fast-track programmes and, from day one, a dedicated project manager will ensure that work is completed on time and on budget. When working in schools we ensure that effective communication protocols are established, to ensure that the project runs smoothly without impeding the normal running of the facility. Engendering your learning environment We believe that a school or university embarking on a construction project is a major commitment, and this needs to be managed well, to allow the school to function throughout the project. Disruption is kept to a minimum by establishing a Facilities Management Plan to ensure that the necessary accommodation is available at the required time. Noise is always kept to a minimum, and, we will endeavour to schedule any exceptionally noisy aspect of the project to out of school hours. On a number of occasions when we have carried out long term works within an occupied school, we have worked with the school staff to allow the children to use the scheme as a study project. Whilst we realise that these opportunities rely on the support of the teachers, we are always keen to assist the school in providing unique educational opportunities out of our building projects. Safety of staff and students comes first at all times. Woodbar understands the importance of security when working within sensitive areas such as a school. To support the safety and security of students, we employ rigorous audits of all the personnel involved in our projects, and will ensure that all directly employed staff are CRB checked. We take the management of Health and Safety of employees, sub- contractors, teaching staff, students and visitors extremely seriously, and we are proud of the outstanding record that we have attained, and will continue to review our policies and practices to ensure that Health and Safety is at the forefront of all that we do.

Client Primrose HillPrimary School Value £1.2m Description Primrose Hill Primary School is a Grade II listed Victorian Building in the heart of the Primrose Hill Conservation area in Camden. This classic three level Victorian school, originally housing Girls, Boys and Infants on separate floors, needed complete re-modelling to work effectively as a teaching establishment in the 21st Century. While the Grade II listed school, at 3,000sqm, is a third bigger than is required for the number on its roll, 10 of the 14 classrooms were well below the size expected by the DfES. It also had an original assembly hall at each level, but could not accommodate the whole school. The kitchen, located on the first floor, was in need of replacement and relocation, and the main entrance reception, on the ground floor, made access of the school difficult. Work was carried out in four phases linked with a decanting strategy designed to minimise disruption to the children’s education. The end result provides five new state-of-the-art classrooms of the correct size and location, better siting of resource areas, revised assembly facilities, a new kitchen and dining suite and a redesigned and rationalised entrance and administration hub. The ground floor is now available for community use without security issues. Education Case Study 1 Education Case Study 2 Client Park Walk Primary School Value £330,000 Description Park Walk Primary School is a Grade 11 listed building in Chelsea, accessible to people with disabilities in line with the Disability Discrimination Act. The scheme removed the original concrete staircase, leaving a triple-height void, 2.5m wide x 4.5m deep, that was filled with a lift and two steel and resin bridges that cross the space, at first and second-floor levels. Each floor was colour-coded with animal graphics. The lift has a glass rear face, fitted with strips of LEDs that illuminate vinyl graphics of nocturnal animals on the wall as it moves. A 3m x 2.5m rectangular roof light of toughened and laminated glass was installed to draw in daylight. Three animal graphics made from cut frosted film were applied to the internal face of the glass, while a 1,800mm-diameter circle was cut out of the ceiling to create the illusion that an ostrich, monkey and bear are peering in. 7Visit us online at www.woodbar.co.uk

Client 28 –29 Wimpole Street, W1 Value £550,000 Description 28-29 Wimpole street is a listed building in the heart of the Howard De Walden Estate. The Howard de Walden Estate is owned directly and indirectly by a number of members of the Howard de Walden Family. The Estate owns, manages and leases the majority of the 92 acres of real estate within Marylebone, which comprises the area from Marylebone High Street in the west to Robert Adam’s Portland Place in the east and from Wigmore Street in the south to Marylebone Road in the north. The Estate is renowned for its creative management techniques, including the striking and imaginative regeneration of Marylebone High Street area. This project saw the rejuvenation of the ground and basement levels of 28-29 Wimpole Street to provide a contemporary environment in which to house a private medical facility with adjoining consultation rooms. A challenging aspect of this project was installation of a new incoming electrical main to provide additional power to the building. The first – fourth floors are all in residential occupation therefore any disruptive works had to be meticulously planned to avoid any disruption to the surrounding residents. As part of the refurbishment many of the building’s features were painstakingly returned to their original condition. The installation of two brand new metal and glass staircases adds a touch of modernism to give a contemporary feel throughout the suite. Healthcare Case Study 1 Client Wellesley Road EPH Value £46,000 Description Wellesley Road Elderly Peoples Home is an Adult Social Care Home which offers care to those who can no longer look after themselves. We were employed by the London Borough of Camden to undertake the refurbishment of two bathroom areas within the Home as part of a pilot scheme which LBC were considering rolling out to other homes in the area. The refurbishment included completely stripping out the bathroom areas before installing state of the art DDA compliant equipment. This included the use of electrically operated movable baths, hygienic wall cladding systems, sensor flow sanitaryware and level access showers with Doc M Shower accessories. As the home was fully occupied and operational throughout the project it was essential that the works were programmed, managed and progressed in such a way that it would not impact into the day to day activities of the home and it’s residents. The home is a residence for elderly and frail people and therefore all staff are required to be CRB checked before they can work within the home. 9Visit us online at www.woodbar.co.uk Healthcare Case Study 2

11Visit us onlineat www.woodbar.co.uk Client The Mansion House Value £1.1m Description The Mansion House is located opposite the Bank of England at Bank Junction. As well as being the home and office of the Lord Mayor of the City of London, this unique building provides a spectacular setting for business meetings, civic and livery activity, and conferences. Charitable and business related organisations also use Mansion House for fundraising events, receptions and dinners. A number of high profile events are held each year which provide a platform for cabinet ministers, visiting Heads of Government, and other prominent public figures. Some 50,000 people visit the Mansion House every year. Since 2006 we have carried out refurbishment works during the summer period when the Mansion House is closed. During this time we have undertaken works in areas including; The Egyptian Hall - this is the main reception room at Mansion House and is so- called because it is what the architect George Dance thought how an Egyptian Hall would look. The room can entertain up to 500 people. The Lord Mayor’s office – this is also referred to as the Venetian Parlour because of the style of the windows. The Long Parlour Room - where the Lord Mayor has meetings, receptions, lunches and dinners. The table, when fully extended, can seat 36 people. For the sake of symmetry, there are false doors at both ends of the room. The State Drawing Rooms - where the VIPs gather before a reception. High Security Case Study 2 High Security Case Study 1 Client The Old Bailey Central Criminal Courts Value Approx £1m Description The Old Bailey is located about 200 yards northwest of St Paul’s Cathedral, just outside the former western wall of the City of London. It is named after the street on which it is located, which itself follows the line of the original fortified wall, or “bailey”, of the City. The initial location of the courthouse close to Newgate Prison allowed prisoners to be conveniently brought to the courtroom for their trials. More generally, its position between the City of London and Westminster meant it was a suitable location for trials involving people from all over the metropolis, north of the river Thames. Although the Old Bailey courthouse was rebuilt several times between 1674 and 1913, the basic design of the courtrooms remained the same. They were arranged so as to emphasise the contest between the accused and the rest of the court. The accused stood at “the bar” (or in “the dock”), directly facing the witness box (where prosecution and defence witnesses testified), and the judges seated on the other side of the room. We first started work at the Old Bailey in 1996 when we undertook an internal & external refurbishment programme to the office and administration areas. We have continued to work within the Court House since this point and have undertaken projects such as; the redecoration of the cell areas including a separate anti-ligature scheme, replacement of the cell doors and the refurbishment and redecoration of numerous Court Rooms, Public and office/administration areas. Following a well-publicised incident in 2008 where a prisoner jumped out of the dock and attacked a judge, we were approached by the City of London to design and install security screens within in the main court areas, which are listed, to prevent prisoners from absconding from the dock area.

Client Exchange Flat,Commercial St Value £150,000 Description The Exchange Building was formally a telephone exchange before it was converted by Philippe Stark. It is situated along the busy Commercial Street in East London and is within close proximity of Spitalfield Market, Brick Lane & the City of London. We were approached to undertake a high-spec refurbishment to a flat within the building. In order to counteract the dense urban character of London’s Spitalfield, the Architect came up with the vision of radically transforming this flat’s interior to abstractly recreate a piece of the New England forest familiar to the client’s home. As the centre piece of the refurbishment we installed an automatically irrigated ‘living wall’ which grows a range of ferns and brings a moist cooling presence to the kitchen area. Lighting behind the laser-cut screens projects a pattern of the tree canopy across the ceiling through the living space. Bespoke furniture was made with raw steel and charred oak allowing the materials to express the process of formation from which they originated. As part of the project we also adapted the existing configuration to provide upgraded living facilities including; a new under floor heating system, oak flooring, contemporary wet room & new kitchen with bespoke cabinetry. Residential Case Study 1 Residential Case Study 2 Client Tray House, 20 Redbridge Lane, E11 Value £163,000 Description The rejuvenation of this suburban, four-bedroom house involved the placement of a single material insert – a black tray; a room laid into the garden cheek-by-jowl against the grain of the existing Victorian House. The design for the house sought to re-organise its old- fashioned arrangement of cellular spaces and provide a new relationship between inside and outdoors suitable for a young family. The openings in the ‘tray’ and the careful demolition of existing walls were controlled to reveal powerful glimpses of the black brick from the inside, and the delicate outline of the newly-formed openings in the Victorian house from the outside. The kitchen and dining spaces are further connected to the garden with a timber-clad island that forms part of the kitchen worktop extending to form an external dining table and garden bench. Over the bench sits an all-sliding, all- hinged door/window with various permutations of 5m wide openness. A practical, versatile and fluid transition space between inside and out – a new lease of life fit for a family. 13Visit us online at www.woodbar.co.uk

15Visit us onlineat www.woodbar.co.uk Client Nags Head Public House - Covent Garden Value £140,000 Description The Nags Head PH is a traditional Victorian London pub located in the heart of London’s Covent Garden, and is famous for being a meeting point with locals and tourists alike. We secured the contract to completely refurbish the bar, lounge and toilet facilities of the pub. However because of its central location the pub produces high revenue for its owners, McMullen Brewers, and therefore it was essential that the pub was closed for the minimum amount of time. In light of the generally small footprint of the pub and the large amount of works which needed to be undertaken in an exceptionally short space of time, we had to work on the pub 24hrs a day in order to minimise the loss experienced through the closure of the venue. In order to achieve this, the project had to be carefully programmed and procured to ensure that the risk of any delays were minimised. Two teams were employed, one would carry out all of the noisy disruptive works during the normal working hours and the other would progress any of the less disruptive operations. The project was delivered on time and to the clients complete satisfaction. Retail Case Study 2 Retail Case Study 1 Client Nike Town - Oxford Street Value £190,000 Description Nike’s flagship store Nike Town, situated on the corner of Regent Street and Oxford Street, displays the full range of Nike products in an incredible setting, inspired by the City of London and athletes’ achievements all over the world. Nike Town has the largest women’s sports clothing and footwear area in Europe, as well as its very own kids pavilion with clothes for boys and girls from infants up to 16 years old. Every swoosh-lover’s dream – the UK’s flagship Nike store is the only place in the country to see the omnipresent sports brand’s full range all together. As the name suggests, the shop is a concept ‘town’. Buildings, each housing a specific sport, surround a central square the store’s focal point. In its centre sits the core – a 3-storey high, 360° projector screen – which springs to life every 20 minutes; as window blinds are snapped shut, customers are barraged with a menagerie of sporting images. Niketown likes to think it’s more than just a shop; each week they put on special events, athletes come in for interviews, they even organise a running club. With 70,000 square foot of shopping space they manage to fit everything in, and more besides. In preparation of the stores opening we decorated the whole of Nike town including the entire shop floor, storage and staff areas. Specialist floor paints were used to create bespoke court and pitch areas within the store and all of the services and ceiling were sprayed black to facilitate the secluded industrial appearance which is the concept of the store.
