Idea Network Analysis is a method for crowdsourcing the understanding of and the design of interventions for any number of complex challenges. Unlike typical group processes which rely on achieving consensus; this process allows the many and diverse viewpoints on an issue to emerge. The methodology relies on brainstorming, sorting, and rating to collect input from the group. Input is web enabled so that participants respond at a time and place convenient for the participant; time zones and geography are not barriers to participation. Multivariate statistical analyses create a visual representation, a map, of the group's thinking. The group can interpret the map, discuss the mean and plan actions based on their collective wisdom. The maps are visual so knowledge of the underlying mathematics is not required.

To increase your awareness of the current issues surrounding marginalized groups in our society and social action aiming to reduce oppression, you will research and create presentation materials on a social topic. The project materials should cover the following elements:
A presentation (e.g., PowerPoint, creative video, podcast, pamphlet/booklet) and discussion of the main issues faced by your chosen population
The presentation should contain:
Relevant background information on selected topic/population.
Relevant statistics on your population (e.g. 14.5% of Americans lived below poverty line in 2012)
A discussion of the strengths that your population possesses (i.e., although your population will most likely be disadvantaged and marginalized in some ways, also talk about ways in which they are resilient, powerful, valued, influential, strong, brave, etc.)
Inclusion of a current event in the news and a discussion of its implications (this can be in the form of a news article or video clip of a news story).
Use of materials including video and audio clips (the time dedicated to videos should not exceed 10-15% of your presentation. Any more will result in a loss of points)
Discussion questions and/or activities for the class to participate in (the discussion questions should be inspired by your presentation materials (e.g., reactions to a current event)
Reflection on the learning process for this presentation (e.g. were you surprised by what you learned, was it different than what you pictured, etc.)
“How can ‘we’ help?” This is a broad question that you can think about creatively. Include a few ideas for how “we” (abstract term that can refer to the class, society, or individual action) can work to help address issues within the topic (e.g., community outreach, political activism). These ideas do not have to be detailed but should be relevant to your populations’ needs and the issues you discussed in the presentation.

The concept of colorism within various communities of color has plague those with darker skin complexions and afforded others with lighter skin tones with privilege and the ability to use their lightskinned privilege to navigate a world of racial and identity politics. In your essay, demonstrate how complex issues around colorism proposes on both sides of the spectrum. What are the overarching themes and concerns that presents itself with color being at the center of social, cultural, political and economic opportunities in our society. Present in your essay, why most people tend to cater toward lighter-skinned individuals versus darker-skinned individuals and how this provides a hierarchy of racial positionality, and a level of social status and privilege
Show through quotes, analysis, and the use of other sources how colorism and anti-blackness work as a contrived system to incarcerate black and brown people from a mental and psychological perspective. Draw upon historic evidence to support your claims. Carefully consider all the readings you have critiqued, and used
them as a point of entry to make your position. In your essay of five pages, discuss whether or not you believe colorism negatively or positively impact black in brown folks in society at large.

ESSAY TOPIC
The concept of colorism within various communities of color has plague those with darker skin complexions and afforded others with lighter skin tones with privilege and the ability to use their lightskinned privilege to navigate a world of racial and identity politics. In your essay, demonstrate how complex issues around colorism proposes on both sides of the spectrum. What are the overarching themes and concerns that presents itself with color being at the center of social, cultural, political and economic opportunities in our society. Present in your essay, why most people tend to cater toward lighter-skinned individuals versus darker-skinned individuals and how this provides a hierarchy of racial positionality, and a level of social status and privilege
Show through quotes, analysis, and the use of other sources how colorism and anti-blackness work as a contrived system to incarcerate black and brown people from a mental and psychological perspective. Draw upon historic evidence to support your claims. Carefully consider all the readings you have critiqued, and used
them as a point of entry to make your position. In your essay of five pages, discuss whether or not you believe colorism negatively or positively impact black in brown folks in society at large.
Remember to do the following in your essay: 1) state your own position in your thesis statement; and 2) support your thesis by discussing specific points that address your position in any article or academic journal use from your research. All in all, your essay will include a combination of you.
